Claire Weatherly found the simple life she always wanted when she opened a gift shop in Heavenly, Pennsylvania—a small town in the heart of Amish country. But when murder disrupts her Heavenly home, it’s up to Claire and Detective Jakob Fisher to find the not-so-simple truth.

The quiet town of Heavenly is buzzing with excitement over the latest guests at the local inn, Sleep Heavenly. Toy manufacturer Rob Karble is in town to meet the members of the Amish community who will soon be crafting a new toy line for his company. But when word gets out that Karble intends to use the Amish designs without employing the Amish to make them, someone sends the interloper to his final reward.

No one wants to believe anyone from the Amish community could commit such an act, but as Claire and Detective Fisher have learned, no one is above sin—or suspicion.

this is the second storyin this series and i hope to read many more! the Amish have a simple way of life, with rules. these stories tell the story of the Amish and their feelings. jakob has left the order after baptism, meaning he is shunned by everyone, family included. he comes back to the area as a policeman, but is not accepted. when there is a murder the Amish will not talk to him. he is hoping to be able to somehow be able to visit his sister, that he was always so close to. claire owns a gift shop in town and tries to help jakob. she also has feelings for him, making things difficult is the fact that she has strong feelings for an Amish man. but that is not to be and she knows it, but he is pressing her for a commitment. so when the murder happens she helps jakob find the culprit. these stories are heartfelt and full of kowledge of the Amish way of life. a simplier way of life. these stories are engaging and interesting, as well as being very good cozies. i can't wait for the next story, it's been a while since i have been excited over a cozy mystery, but i am over these stories!!! thank you Ms Laura!!!

Claire Weatherly found the simple life she always wanted when she opened a gift shop in Heavenly, Pennsylvania—a small town in the heart of Amish country. It is time for the Amish Food Festival and Sleep Heavenly has some very special guests. Rob and Ann Karble have come to town not just enjoy the delightful Amish food creations but to add their own excitement to the quiet little town. Rob is the president of Karble Toys and he has plans to add a line of toys designed and created by the Amish. Daniel Lapp and Issac Schrock have been making toys and selling them through a catalog and out of their shop to tourists so this news means they will be able to employ more Amish as their sales catapult. Then a memo is passed around at the festival from Karble Toys. It states the new line will no longer be made in Heavenly but at one of their factories. This drives someone to commit murder. Rob Karble has been sent to his final reward. No one wants to believe anyone from the Amish community would kill someone but Detective Fisher and Claire have learned the no one is above sin or suspicion. They need to track down the killer before anyone else becomes heaven bound. Dollycas’s Thoughts Amazing! Laura Bradford in an amazing author! Heavenly, Pennsylvania is right in the heart of an Amish Community. Tourists come to the little town for a glimpse of their simpler way of life and stop into the shops along Lighted Way owned by both English and Amish residents. Clare Weatherly has come to Heavenly to get away from the rushed life she was living and a man she realized was completely wrong for her. She has opened up Heavenly Treasures where she sells items crafted by her Amish neighbors. She has quickly made herself at home in Heavenly. Bradford blends a clever mystery with a little romance to captivate cozy readers. There are two men that make Clare “tingle” but one is totally off limits and the other has his mind on other things, like solving a murder. Fantastic characters, a delightful setting, and a whodunit that will keep you guessing until the very end. The first book in this series, Hearse and Buggy, was one of my favorite cozies in 2012 and this one is even better. Both books are Heavenly Treasures and get my highest recommendation. I can’t wait for the next installment of this wonderful series!

Assaulted Pretzel is the second book in the An Amish Mystery series by Laura Bradford. And a delightful addition it is. Things are looking up for the quiet community of Heavenly, PA. The annual Amish Food Festival is about to kick and Rob Karble, president of Karble Toys. Karble is town to talk with Daniel Lapp, an accomplished Amish toymaker, with the understanding that the local Amish men will be producing the toys. Clair is excited for the food festival to begin, as this is the first one she has attended and is planning on sampling a little bit of everything. First, she stops by the police station to see if Jakob, an Amish man who has given up the faith, to become a policeman. As Claire and Jakob are enjoying walking around and sampling the foods, Claire quite literally trips over the dead body of Rob Karble. Almost immediately a letter is being passed around that stated Karble had no intention of having the toys made in Heavenly. Suspicion automatically falls on Daniel and Issac, the one who had written Karble and gotten him interested in the first place. Claire goes into action to look for information as to who the murder might be and to also be a "go between" for Jakob and the area's Amish. I fell that Bradford does an excellent job of depicting the Amish lifestyle and of their rules. Looking forward to the next book in series.

I've been reading a lot of cozy mysteries lately. This installment was pretty good. And the writing, setting, pacing and characters makes this a pretty good read. Looking forward to the next one.

Murder of a Toy Maker   Claire Weatherly has been hearing about an annual Amish Food Festival ever since she moved to Heavenly, Pennsylvania, so she is excited it has finally arrived.  She is looking forward to spending the day sampling Amish food and chatting with her new friends.  Unfortunately, some of the festive spirit has left thanks to a leaked memo that reports that Rob Karble, who was in town to sign a deal to distribute Amish made toys via his toy company, is planning to use his own workers and plants instead of local workers like he’d originally promised.   However, things take a dramatic turn when Rob is found murdered behind one of the booths.  With multiple people in the Amish community affected by Rob’s change of plans, Claire once again finds herself helping her friend, police officer Jakob Fisher, navigate the investigation.  Will one of her Amish friends be convicted?   Once again, the strong characters drew me into the story and held me captive until it reached the logical climax.  I thought I knew who the killer was early on, but the further into the book I got, the more I began to question my guess.  The love triangle does seem to overpower the mystery at times, but the strong characters made me really care about the outcome there, too, and with how things were left, I’m anxious to see exactly where we go from here.   This is a strong mystery series, and I’m glad I gave it a chance.  I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next to Claire very soon.

This is my second book by Laura Bradford and I have not been disappointed. She weaves an interesting story of Amish life and their English neighbors in a small community. It keeps your attention and the pages turning. A very enjoyable read!

The second in Laura Bradford's series of mysteries, I found to be an even better story than the first. She has written a very interesting (to me, anyway) book and I found myself right back in PA Dutch country. A good mystery is one that I can't quite figure out myself, and leave it for her to solve. I love her characters and can't wait for the next book to see what happens to them all.

Claire Weatherly has settled into her new life in Heavenly, Pennsylvania, living with her Aunt Diane and running her gift shop. The nearby Amish are both farmers and craftsmen, two toy makers having caught the eye of the head of a large toy company. During the annual Amish Food Festival, the discovery of a body puts a damper on all the fun. Claire wants to help her new friends clear the names of the Amish toy makers. Her new friendship with Detective Jakob Fisher doesn't hurt when it comes to the sharing of certain pieces of information.

ASSAULTED PRETZEL is now on my list of favorite books. The setting of Heavenly,PA makes you want to vacation there. The characters Clair, Diane, Ester, Jakob and Benjamin are wonderful! Great new insight is given into the life of the Amish. I don't often reread books, but I know I'll want to go back to this one one day. Make sure to buy HEARSE AND BUGGY, the first in this delightful series. Also an amazing read. I'm only sorry that the highest rating is 5 stars, because I would give both books 10x that amount! I can hardly wait for the 3rd book in this series!

Laura Bradford is one of those authors that leave you with a smile and wanting more after reading one of her stories. In the latest Amish series, the people in Heavenly are excited about a new opportunity, that is until a businessman’s decision takes it all away, and so does a killer with his life. What a great read that had me devouring page after page as I had to know it all ends. I loved how the pace of this mystery played out in this cleverly written drama that put me right in the scenes with Claire as her deductive reasoning put her closer to the killer’s identity. Claire is a terrific lead in a lovable cast of characters with great conversations in a small-town atmosphere. The relationship that Claire has with her aunt and friends is what draws me to this charmingly appealing series and I can’t wait for my next visit in Heavenly, Pennsylvania.
