Overview

Baha’u’llah and the New Era shines as the very best general introductory book about the Bahai Faith of its time, and remains today the most widely known and most used textbook of the Bahai Faith, having been translated into some 60 languages. In this compact work, Esslemont comprehensively yet succinctly sets forth the teachings of Baha’u’lluh, the Prophet and Founder of the Bahai Faith. He outlines the religion’s early history; explains the religion’s theology; incorporates extracts from Bahai scripture; and provides information on Bahai spiritual practices. Essential reading for students of comparative religion.

About the Author

J. E. Esslemont (1874-1925) was a prominent Bahai from Scotland. He trained in medicine at Aberdeen University, graduating in 1898. Tuberculosis forced him to abandon a promising career in medical research and to pursue other interests. He was a very good linguist, learning six languages including Persian and Arabic. This enabled him to assist in translating a number of important Bahai works. However, his most outstanding achievement was the publication of Baha'u'llah and the New Era in 1923.
