Begging for Change by Sharon Flake

Is there greed in Raspberry Hill's genes?

In this sequel to Coretta Scott King Honor Book MONEY HUNGRY, once-homeless Raspberry Hill vows never to end up on the streets again. It's been a year since Raspberry's mother threw her hard-earned money out the window like trash, so to Raspberry money equals security and balance. And she's determined to do anything to achieve it.

But when a troubled neighborhood teenager attacks her mother and Raspberry's drug-addicted father returns, Raspberry becomes desperate for her life to change and ends up doing the unthinkable, potentially ruining her friendships and losing her self-respect along the way. Will Raspberry accept that nothing good comes of bad money? Or is she destined to follow in her father's footsteps?

This is a great book. It shows how life is for the less fortunate. It tells a story about a girl who was brave, but had a big problem. In the end she realized stealing isn't the answer. Her father is a crack-head and steals from her and her mom. It's a great book. I loved it.

It has been a while since Rasberry's mother has thrown out all her money out the window. Now with struggling to get a house, her mother dating her friend's father, and after her house has been robbed many times Rasberry is trying to get over the fact her father isn't coming back. But then once he does she doesn't want him back. Her mother has been hit in the head by their crazed neighbor who was kicked out of the house. Her father comes to the house saying he's trying to be a better man, but all he does is steal Rasberry's money. The 2nd time he comes to her house because the police beat him up and he steals her money Rasberry goes after him. Once she finds him she finds his peach tree that had been planted from a peach she had given him she steps all over it and finds out that he hasn't moved at all for days from his friend.

This book shows how everybody goes through a few rough patches in their life, but the gotta keep on moving and things will turn out right. This book also has a lot more of a Romantic Comedy feel to it than the first one did.
