Beyond Dead (An Afterlife Adventures Novel, #1) by Jordaina Sydney Robinson

For fans of Jana DeLeon and Angie Fox comes a new paranormal mystery series … set in the afterlife.

You thought life was hard? You should try being dead!

Death is not what Bridget Sway expected. Not at all.

There are no harp-playing cherubs. There are no cloud cars. There aren't even any pearly gates to walk through.

Death is a fashion disaster of a uniform and a job that doesn't pay. It's a heinous communal living situation with housemates who have no concept of privacy or personal space. It's a handsome parole officer who is a stickler for rules that no one has bothered to explain. And it's a dead ghost stuffed into her locker.

Yeah. That's what death is.

As the prime suspect, Bridget needs to figure out who the murderer is before she's arrested. Or before she becomes the next dead body stuffed in her locker.

If you like sassy heroines who break all the rules, laugh out loud humour and whodunnits that keep you guessing until the very end, then take a walk on The Other Side with Bridget Sway.

My favorite thing about this book it that it doesn't fit neatly into one particular genre. Jordaina Sydney Robinson skillfully, cohesively and creatively weaves a little bit of everything into a clever, witty, interesting story. The characters are well developed, relatable, charming and funny. If it seems I'm vomiting adjectives here, it's only because she made it difficult to settle on one or two. In my mind, that's a good thing. My point is...read the book! You won't be sorry :-)

This does'nt fit into a genre i would normally read but i was intrigued by the title. I'm so glad that i did read it, i thought the characters were very easy to relate to. Really enjoyed it and will definitely the other books by this author

I enjoyed the story but it could use a good editor to remove doubled words and improper Grammer. Also, there is no such words as forwards and towards. Drop the s.

I was looking for a new series and was intrigued by the cover. Read the summary and took a chance. An enjoyable read with characters I already love. Already bought the next three books and will try to wait patiently for the next one. A must read if you enjoy a good mystery with a ghost premise.

A murder mystery where the murderer is already dead and so are all of the characters. I really enjoyed the book and will buy the others.

If this is the after-life (for those who don't get beamed up in a white light), heaven help us all! (Yes, I did that on purpose) You get an apparently nonsensical job, hideous clothes, a total lack direction or training, and lots of trouble if you mess up. Quirky characters and plot. A fun read.

Title: Beyond Dead - Bridget Sway Novel 1 Author: Jordaina Sydney Robinson Published: 3-5-2016 Publisher: Self-Published Jordaina Sydney Robinson Pages: 302 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub Genre: Women's Fiction; Supernatural; Ghosts; Cozy Mystery ISBN: 4684561345135 ASIN: B01CMJIBJ8 Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley My Rating: 5 stars . If this is what the after like was really like I can tell you that you will never be bored. The sarcasm and humor abound in this book. With characters you will be drawn to and want to get to know better. A plot that is well thought out that keeps you involved in the story from beginning to end to the point you do not want the story to end. For a first in a series Jordaina Sydney Robinson has definitely started with a bang. Dead and put on a sort of training status Bridget must prove herself. Then Ghost start being killed (what a concept) and Bridget is suspect number one. Join her as she tries to prove her innocence. With a few chuckles along the way you will be drawn into this fast paced story and become part of it. My rating is a solid 5 out of 5 stars. I cannot wait for book 2. I may not want to join Bridget and the others on a permanent basis just yet, but I want to visit often. Congratulations Jordaina Sydney Robinson on penning a winner.

Reviewed by Deborah Lloyd for Readers' Favorite Jordaina Sydney Robinson’s first book in a series, Beyond Dead: A Bridget Sway Novel is truly an original and unique work. The story begins with Bridget’s first days in the afterlife. Not only does she have to learn the many rules and regulations of this new world, she has to dress in a non-flattering uniform and has no toiletries (hairbrush, comb) to appear presentable. Then, she finds a dead ghost in her locker. The adventure of solving the mystery of who killed this man, along with other crimes along the way, has begun. Bridget soon finds a friend, Sabrina, who was a private investigator when alive. Learning the methods used in the afterlife, such as tunneling, misting, and being summoned, investigating several mysteries at once, determining who is safe and who is dangerous, and trying to stay “alive” make for an exciting adventure indeed. There are many intriguing characters in Jordaina Sydney Robinson’s first mystery novel. It is easy for the reader to grasp the personality of each character through Ms. Robinson’s detailed, picturesque descriptions. The narrative sections are crisp and clear. The conversations between Bridget and Sabrina are sassy and quick-witted, fun for the reader. This brings a balance of lightheartedness against some scary happenings. Just like Bridget and Sabrina, the reader learns the nonsensical “rules” of the afterlife, adding more liveliness to the story. Happily, this is the first of a series, and it will be fun to see what new adventures are on the horizon!
