I was sceptical of this book at first but fell in love with the characters. Theres depth to the characters and the plot/characters are believable despite it being about 'shifters'. Im now intrigued by shifter life & just purchased the rest of the series. I suspect I wont be putting my Nook down & will read strait through the series by tonight and will be eargerly awaiting her next book! I dont usually write reviews, but this book deserved one!

The author has a great concept for this series, but the writing is uninspired, wooden, cliche-ridden, and flat. Reading this quickly went from annoying to painful. It's the fantasy genre and requires suspension of disbelief, but that doesn't mean your characters can be one dimensional and change every core characteristic in the space of a page just because it's fast and doesn't require skill in scene, dialogue, or plot. Did not mean to sound harsh, but with so many good writers in this genre, this book was a waste of money and time. Try Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter.

Quick Read. Not too many twists and turns thrown into this book. You pretty much know within the first few pages who the main character is going to wind up with and how the book is going to pan out. Would have been nice to have more interaction with some of the minor characters and more explanations about the shifter changing after the breeding.

Nothing like a good shifter book

Story was predictable. Never really attached to any characters, as there was no tension.

.....from this author! Book is 369 pgs long for those interested. I always like to know myself. Im a big fan of Jennifer Ashley and this book did not disappointed. Great story, great characters, always enjoy reading about her Shifters. If you've never read any of her books you are missing out on a great read. It was a nice romance, but definitely one of her least steamy ones, but still good if you like a gentler romance.

This book was funny and kept me on my toes with action. I like the way the characters were easy going and didn't feel unmanly about giving hugs even though they were tough guys. :) really enjoyed the book.

Truly a great read. It had just enough drama and love to keep the book really interesting.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters this author has created. Elizabeth is logical & follows her intuition, without a lot of agonizing second guessing. I am looking forward to reading the entire series.

This was a perfect story story to get you through the time we must wait for the next full size story. Ronan makes you wish there are Kodiak bear sifters running around in our world. He's perfect for Elizabeth. They make a great couple and push along the story line that runs through the entire series. It's a must read.

The combination of angsty worldbuilding and OTT cheeseball storytelling doesn't really work for me. Add in sloppy editing mistakes and forget it.I really enjoyed book one in this series - the world building was great and the characters and romance were believable and fun. Book two was a let-down, but I was still willing to continue the series. After this, though, I'm done. The characters were cliches, the plot was simplistic and the writing -- so disappointing. I know Ms. Ashley can do better.

I came across this book because a few people on Goodreads that are in my feed recently re-read a few books in this series and were saying how amazing this series as a whole is. After reading a novella in the series (which in this type of series that feature a different couple in every book should be able to stand alone in my opinion) I don't see what everyone else saw in this book. This novel (probably because it's a novella in the series) didn't do a good job educating me on how the universe the author built worked. My biggest grievance was with the collars. I wanted to understand how they came to be specifically and how they were built, how long they took to become a necessity. The heroine (for having lived in this world as long as she had) was no help whatsoever. She was just as uninformed as me (the reader) which made her come off as very dense and quite naive. Ronan was an okay guy. Though he did get overly possessive way too quickly of Elizabeth. Which leads me to something else I disliked about this story: the insta-love. I understand it's a novella, but things getting that "deep" that quickly doesn't work for me. The ending was rushed and way too easily resolved. Nothing made me feel like anything was a life-or-death situation so it didn't have the emotional impact the author probably wanted. Overall, I would have liked to have had more information on the universe the author created present in this novel, for people like me, who don't always start a standalone book series on the first book. The Audio Book: The overall narration was nice, but the story felt like it was missing something which made everything not so good. I will say that there were some words that, to me, were miss pronounced because I'm so used to hearing them spoken one way on tv shows, movies and other book narrations that every time they were said I would cringe a little.
