Great Series! This is a great series; this is the third book in the Zoe Chambers Mysteries by Annette Dashofy. This book can be read as a standalone; however, if you want to know Zoe and Pete’s history, then you will want to read them in order. Zoe is a paramedic in a small town, she shows up to a fire and stops a man from running into the burning fire to rescue his wife. She ends up inviting him and his 10 year old daughter to live at the farm so he can pick up the pieces from losing his wife. When the police chief Pete finds out that Zoe has a new house guest he is not happy especially when he is looking into the fire and her new house guest is the number one suspect. This book has great characters, and kept me reading because I didn't want to put it down. If you love a good mystery then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.  A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

The first book in this series was very good though it went a few places that I was uncomfortable with. The second book was wonderful! The plot line was good, the characters were real, the mystery was puzzling, the whole things was just the kind of contemporary mystery I love. I was really look forward to this one. Once again the plot was good and the mystery was well-crafted but the characters! I wanted to slap them over and over and really, I don't think Zoe acted like herself at all. I hope the fourth book in this series will return her to her right mind and I will be impatiently waiting for it. Zoe and Pete sure looked like they were getting together at the end of the last book and this one starts with them seeing where that's going to go. They get a call to a house that has had a gas explosion and have to stop the husband from running back into the house as it burns to rescue his wife who dies in the explosion. He has a 10 year old daughter, Maddie, and Zoe can feel Maddie's pain, having lost her father at a young age and suggests that the dad and daughter move in with her at her farm. Obviously, Pete isn't going to like this since the dad is a murder suspect. Zoe has so many TSTL moments that I was wondering if it was the same character from the previous book. Much angst results from Zoe and Pete's differences over the suspect. The mystery had nice twists and turns. The characters except for Pete and Zoe moments of idiocy were superb. I love the style of writing. Please just pass on the romantic angst next time and I'll be a happy camper. Book provided by Netgalley but I always give my honest opinion.

The story is about 280 pages long. The outhor 18 pages are previews of her other two books and incidentials. This book cost $4.99. It is the third book in a series and is free standing. If the next book costs more, no matter how wonderful it is reported to be, I will not be purchasing it. I will not pay more than $4.99 for an ebook and do not like to pay more than $2.99 but will sometimes make an acception. This book once again dealt with a victim burning to death. I have a hard time dealing with this sort of murder. The details of violence were more graphic and more plentiful. There were a few curse words and implied sex. The whodunit and whydunit was much easier to figure out. This also seemed more like a chick lit book, than her previous books were, complete with multiple arguments, break ups, make ups and rescue the poor woman and giving her orders. The main character was not as strong and sensible. This is a very good read and is well edited. It was just not quite up to the standards set by the previous two books. Recommended reading for those who enjoy a bit of romance and sometimes graphic details of murder and autopsies, even over meals, with their murder mystery. Ages 18 and up. AD

Dollycas’s Thoughts This is the third book in this series and it really kept me on my toes. Zoe and Pete are trying to take their relationship to the next level but keep facing roadblock after roadblock. One major roadblock occurs when Zoe decides to help a man and his daughter after his wife dies in a tragic fire. Pete just doesn’t trust the guy and Zoe is following her gut instinct. When the evidence starts to point to the man Pete turns up the heat to keep him away from Zoe but she douses the flames by basically telling Pete to back off. Is her gut wrong? Is she the one that is going to get burned? Annette Dashofy has pumped up this story with a huge bucket of suspense. I actually felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading a book. Almost wanting to cover my eyes when I knew Zoe was going to take a huge dangerous step, or try to keep someone from barreling into a hazardous situation. Zoe is such a strong woman and the author has written her so beautifully that we get to see her vulnerable side too. Her life could be in for some major changes but she continues to push ahead. Pete is strong as well and that is why they sometimes clash, he also cares deeply for Zoe but needs to learn to trust her. We see a bit of jealously rear its ugly head. The supporting cast are also so well written. Zoe lives in a divided farmhouse where she also boards her horse. She helps out her landlord’s, the Kroll’s, by giving riding lessons and mucking out the stalls. The Kroll’s are facing hard times due to Mr. Kroll’s hospitalization and Mrs. Kroll is more worried about her husband than the bills that are stacking up. Mrs. Kroll becomes a key character in this story. We also meet Holt and Maddie Farabee. Maddie turns out to be a very wise 10 year old. Dashofy is such a fantastic storyteller. The plot is full of twists and those anxious moments when the pages just can’t seem to fly fast enough. There was more than one point where I would feel my heart racing and my mind trying to read faster to see how things were going to play out. I gave Lost Legacy, the second book in this series a Paradise Rating and this one has to get the same. Annette Dashofy has set the bar high. I cannot wait to see what she has planned for Zoe, Pete, and the rest Vance Township next.

4 STARS I like this series. Lots of drama, murder, fires and characters that I like. This is the third book in Zoe Chambers mystery. Zoe Chambers is a Paramedic. She is also learning to be medical examiner, not her idea either. Zoe lives on a farm in a apartment and takes care of the barn in exchange for housing her horse. She has started to date Pete. Police Chief Pete Adams has started dating Zoe after flirting with her. Pete and Zoe's relationship has a lot of drama in this book. Pete believes that Holt Farabee is guilty of a bunch of crimes. Zoe believes in him. She really likes his daughter ten year old Maddie. You were not sure who to trust. I did think each person was guilty at different times. I really like the one scene when she is talking about where her horse would stay with her partner on the ambulance. It made me laugh at his answer. I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Henery Press. In return I agreed to give a honest review.

I had not read any other books in this series but that was okay. It was a good story. I really did not know who had done it, I did have my suspicions, so it wasn't really a surprise. But getting to the solution was a good story. I look forward to the next book.

It all starts with an explosion. One of the few houses in a new subdivision explodes after the residents report smelling gas. While EMT Zoe Chambers isn’t on duty, she rushes to the scene to offer whatever aid she can. While she is there, she stops the distraught owner from rushing in to see if his wife was home. Sadly, the wife’s remains are found in the rubble. The fire investigator also find evidence that the gas leak and explosion that killed her wasn’t an accident. While police chief Pete Adams, Zoe’s new boyfriend, immediately suspects the husband of setting things up, Zoe doesn’t believe it. It helps that she has begun bonding with the victim’s daughter. Both Pete and Zoe dig in their heels, certain that they are correct. Where will the facts lead? Will their relationship be destroyed before the truth is revealed? With Zoe and Pete’s relationship being fairly new, this mystery really tests them. As always, both are prominent characters, even sharing time as our third person view point characters. That’s a good thing, too, since it allows us to better understand where they are coming from in their arguments and lets us see they both know when they might be wrong or did something stupid. But all this drama is only part of the book. While this might be a bit more of a procedural than the multiple suspect books I am used to reading, we still get plenty of twists and turns to the case and a climax that had me turning pages as fast as I could to see what would happen next. Obviously, Zoe and Pete are strong leads, but the rest of the cast are just as strong. Like the rest of the series, this book straddles the line between traditional and cozy with just a smattering of foul language and a bit more detail than in the books I normally read. Just know that going in, and you’ll be fine.

Fast paced. Interesting believable characters. Exciting story line. Keeps you guessing (and thinking you’ve figured it out). Loved it! Definitely recommend reading this book.
