EASY BAKE COVEN

Katie Lightfoot's tired of loafing around as the assistant manager of an Ohio bakery. So when her aunt Lucy and uncle Ben open a bakery in Savannah's quaint downtown district and ask Katie to join them, she enthusiastically agrees.

While working at the Honeybee Bakery—named after Lucy's cat—Katie notices that her aunt is adding mysterious herbs to her recipes. Turns out these herbal enhancements aren't just tasty—Aunt Lucy is a witch and her recipes are actually spells!

When a curmudgeonly customer is murdered outside the Honeybee Bakery, Uncle Ben becomes the prime suspect. With the help of handsome journalist Steve Dawes, charming firefighter Declan McCarthy, and a few spells, Katie and Aunt Lucy stir up some toil and trouble to clear Ben's name and find the real killer..

Library Journal
Katie Lightfoot jumpstarts her stalled life by moving to Savannah, GA and partnering up with her aunt Lucy and uncle Ben, who are opening a bakery. Honeybee Bakery seems destined for success until one of their customers, Mavis Templeton, is murdered in her car after being seen arguing with Uncle Ben. Further, Katie is startled to learn Aunt Lucy is a witch. Things make more sense, sort of, when Katie starts to understand her own gifts. Feeling freshly empowered, she learns more about the enemies Mavis had amassed over the years. With the help of two smitten young hunks, one a firefighter and one a journalist, Katie narrows down the list of murder suspects. VERDICT Let Cates cast her spell over you with this charming debut series entry that brings in the paranormal but never forgets the warmth that cozy readers often request. Solving crimes using witchcraft might not be to everyone's taste, but it's hard to argue with these recipes. Cates also writes as Cricket McRae. Share with readers who like Juliet Blackwell's "Witchcraft" series.

Cute new cozy series combining murder with witchcraft. The main character, Katie, uproots her old life and moves to Savannah to help her aunt and uncle run their new bakery. In addition to a new job and new home, she also acquires a cute terrier familiar, two potential boyfriends, and the discovery that she is a witch. As she learns about her new budding powers, she tries to resolve a murder that threatens to tear apart her new-found home and family.

Very cute book. A good summer read. I enjoyed the southern charm in the small town, and the idea of the main character starting a new life in a new town, with a total change in career.

love discovering new series, and in this one Katie Lightfoot learns that she was born to a family of spell-casting witches. That newfound task may be put to use when her uncle becomes the prime suspect in a murder. Knowing that the police will need absolute proof of her uncle’s innocence, Katie and the others begin an investigation into who had a stronger motive. This was a fun book that I enjoyed immensely. The murder mystery stomped me and totally caught me unaware of the killer’s identity. I like the spirit of Katie as she comes to term with her heredity and the supporting characters blend beautifully in the storyline and I can’t wait to read more about their history. This fast-moving whodunit boasts a great plot, a lovable and colorful cast, entertaining dialogue and a warm and a friendly tone. This is a great beginning in this charmingly enchanting debut series that I hope is here to stay.

What do a new bakery, aunt and uncle, two “hunky” men fighting, and four “odd” ladies all have in common?.....Katie Lightfoot. Katie has moved to Savannah, Georgie to help her aunt and uncle open a new bakery named, “Honeybee”. In prepping for the “Grand Opening”, Katie meets two very different “hunky” men who will each help her solve a murder. First in the “Magical Bakery” series, overall entertaining. Was interesting subject matter and well researched. I felt the flow was irregular at times but the storyline had plenty of twists and turns. Looking forward to reading more in the series!
