About the Author

The hardest decision New York Times bestselling author Jenn McKinlay ever had to make was what to major in during college. Then she discovered the sanctuary of the library and library science—a major that allowed her to study all the subjects. She loves working as a librarian. After all, what other occupation allows you to research the ethnobotanical properties of agave, perform a puppet show for twenty wiggly toddlers and try to answer why the rabbit’s foot is considered lucky, all in the same day? Jenn is also the author of the Cupcake Bakery Mysteries, the Hat Shop Mysteries and the Bluff Point romance series. She lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, in a house that is overrun with books, pets, kids and her husband’s guitars.

This was a fantastic follow-up to McKinlay's first cupcake cozy. Melanie Cooper, along with her friend and business partner Angie DeLaura, are still being plagued by bakery rival Olivia and baking up delicious cupcakes (recipes included!). When Mel's mom goes on her first date in ages and the date doesn't go quite as planned, Mel's sleuthing kicks into high gear. This is such a smoothly written story and once again, the secondary characters are well fleshed out. The addtion of senior Marty Zelaznik was inspired. I hope to see more of all of them in the next installment!

What a wonderful cozy mystery...A Killer Read. Now you can have your cupcake and read it too. The author has done a terrific job at creating spunky characters that are down to earth. I must say this this is one book I actually laughed out loud at. There is just something about the characters you just love and care about. The first book in the series is wonderful and this second book does not disappoint either. I can't wait for the next book to come out. Warning: Time flies by when you read this, so be sure to put the timer on if you have cupcakes in the oven. Speaking of cupcakes, this book also has cupcake recipes included that sound delicious. Everyone needs a treat now and then and I would have to say that this book is a treat.

Mel Cooper and Angie DeLaura, all of Angie's brothers, Mel's mom, and their evil bakery enemy Olivia Puckett, are all back in the second book of the Cupcake Bakery Mystery Series. Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and the girls are teaching a couple's cupcake baking class. During the first class Mel's mom bursts in to announce she has a date! She needs Mel to take her shopping for the perfect "drop dead" gorgeous dress for her date. She hardly expected the dress to cause one man to have a heart attack and another, her date, actually "drop dead", but that is exactly what happened. Only her date didn't die of a heart attack or any other natural causes. He was murdered and Mel's mom is in a deep bowl of batter as the number one suspect. Mel knows her mother couldn't kill a fly let alone a man, so with Angie's help they must take time away from their Fairy Tale Bakery to find the real killer without getting themselves baked or frosted. Jenn McKinlay has done it again, the cupcakes not only stirred my cravings but the mystery had me so captivated I couldn't put this book down. I stayed up late and finished this book all in one sitting. I hate to give too much away but these characters, especially Angie's new boyfriend, will keep you entranced and in stitches until the very last word. The cupcakes are just the icing on this wonderful delectable treat for your reading pleasure. A definite must read for the new year. Start the year off right with Jenn's delicious cupcake series. You know not only do I think I might have found a new favorite series, but I think I found a favorite author. Yeah let's go with both. This one I think won me over. I mean I liked the first one just fine. But the second one in the series was just fun. Actually 2 books so far, made these books fun to read. Basically, this is probably my favorite, so far anyway. Throughout the mystery, I was like oh wow the timing, the timing. Especially near the end with the reveal I was aww, then oh wait, mystery, and I so knew it! Anyway, another fun read in the Cupcake mystery series thus far. Looking forward to the next Mel and Angie mystery, and the author's other series.

I Loved This Valentine’s Set Book   It’s a few weeks before Valentine’s Day, and love is in the air.  Mel and Angie, owners of Fairy Tale Cupcakes, are hosting a contest where the winner will get a fancy dinner on the holiday.  This is in addition to their couple’s cupcake baking class.  Even Mel’s mother, Joyce, has been hit by Cupid’s arrow since she is going out on the first date she’s had since Mel’s father passed away a decade ago.   However, Joyce calls in a panic in the middle of her date.  She has found her date, Baxter Malloy, floating in his pool dead.  With the police questioning Joyce, Mel feels the need to find out who really killed Baxter.  The suspects are numerous since he was running a pyramid scheme, but some of them hit even closer to home.  Which of the suspects actually committed the crime?   It’s been a year and a half since I read the first in the series, and I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to it.  The plot was a little thin, but the situations Mel found herself in while investigating the case more than made up for it.  There are some fun and funny moments.  All the characters, new and returning, were great and added to the fun.  I especially loved Marty, a new character for this book.  I hope he pops back up in future books.   Even though I know how the cliffhanger has to end, I’m not going to let nearly this long go before I move on to the next book in the series.  This is a fun cast of characters, and I can see why the series is so popular.

This series is a light, easy read. In the second book cupcake bakery owner Melanie's mother goes on her first date... who of course ends up dead. I do like the premise of these books and I like to read the relationships between Melanie and Angie but the mystery falls a little flat. I figured out who the killer was fairly easily. I want to like this series but I can't get past some of the fluffy writing style. I'll try the next book however because I love the idea of the Cupcake Bakery. Hopefully, the author will add a little bit more suspense to the books in this series.

I just finished this second in the series by Jen McKinlay. I always enjoy reading how Mel and Angie get themselves into a fine mess. This time Mel's mother gets wrapped up in the fun. As Mel takes on a new employee and some love interests stagger while others spark, there is a lot of fun on every page. Although the latter part of thebook reveals the murderer, it seemed to be too short. Within a few moments there is some action and poof!- an apprehension. Overall, it is a fun, quick read that gets you excited for the next in the series.

I have enjoyed both Book #1 and #2 of this series. An interesting and likeable cast of characters and a good mystery..... while still being light, easy reading. I will continue to follow this series, even though it makes me VERY hungry for cupcakes!

I have several other authors I read on food mysteries. This series was refreshing. I enjoy the story very much and the fact that it was based here in Arizona made it even more special
