We suppose that is true for many of the celebrated heroes of the struggle for freedom and justice. However, Elaine Eason Steele takes it personally; she was there, with a view from within the room, not as an outsider. The journey continues.

About the Author

Born in Tuskegee, Alabama during the Jim Crow era, Elaine Eason Steele is one of two daughters (sister, Anita) of a Tuskegee Airman father and a Spelman College graduate mother. Her family migrated to Detroit where she grew up, attended school, and later graduated from The University of Michigan-Dearborn, receiving a BA degree. Her 45-year journey with Mrs. Rosa Parks, as detailed in By Her Side, began when she was 16, and a high school student. That improbable journey continued until Mrs. Parks' passing on October 24, 2005. The journey continues.
