This review is for the audiobook version but the story is the same regardless of format. Cancelled Vows A Mac Faraday Mystery #11 By Lauren Carr Narrated by James C. Lewis With six days until their wedding, David O'Callaghan and Chelsa Adams are finally getting their wedding license. At least that was the plan until a small bump threw off their plans. David is already married. And the worst part is he was and is completely in the dark about it. But as they say, the wedding must go on. He just has to divorce his first wife before the marriage can take place. So it is off to the Big Apple for David, Mac Faraday, and Gnarly (a K-9 with military duty in his resume). With 5 days to get a divorce, the clock is against them. But time is the least of their worries once they find David's wife - murder is. And David soon finds himself caught in a dangerous game with some who are no longer New York's finest and his life, along with that of research assistant Ali Harding, is on the line. As the story progresses, one has to wonder will David make it back to Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. And if he does can he heal the hurt that he has caused Chelsa? And more than one person is hiding a secret that could have a bearing on this case. This is an action packed book that opens with the moment of peak action before delving into the back story that found David in an unexpected situation that makes him public enemy #1 in New York City and on the run. But with Mac and Gnarly on his side, the odds are in his favor that he may actually make it out of New York alive. And this is about to be a wedding not to be forgotten in Deep Creek Lake anytime soon. And with Gnarly around it is never boring. The writing style is steady with no drag and the narration is well suited to the story. The narrator's voice is not grating and he does a fairly good Gnarly growl - not that my dogs felt threatened but one can believe that it is a growl. At 10 hours and 14 minutes, this is an audiobook that is a good length perfect for long commutes or not even not so long (mine is normally 15 minutes) It is also a good listen for an easy on the eyes book. If you are looking for a mystery that will keep you in suspense give this one a try. I was provided a free copy of this book by the author with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Each chapter is a heart thumping to read Miss Lauren Carr did amazing job in this book Cancelled Vows. I LOVED how the cover is. It looks so pretty. It is more prettier when you read the book and found out the mystery. Each chapter is a heart thumping to rad. There is never a dull moment when you read this author's writing. I have been a new fan since I read my first book of her. Since then I am looking forward to read her writings. I LOVED that there is a list of characters that help you who they are and what part they have in the story. It helps a lot and you are closer to solve the mystery. Cancelled Vows teaches us unexpected problems. It also teaches us that LOVE is mysterious. Sometimes we solving a problem leads us to who we really are and why we CANCELLED VOWS to lead us to our true love. Disclosure: I received a paperback copy of the book to read. My review is 100% honestly mine.

So here we are again. Back with the gang. And another wedding is looming. Only one problem. The groom just found out he’s still married to his first wife. Oops. I’ve read several books in this series and, since I’ve missed one here or there, I can’t share too much about the events going on without spoiling the other books for you. All of my favorite characters make appearances. Some are brief cameos. One in particular, a bad/good assassin, was a nice surprise. And the pets are back too. These characters view their furry companions as members of the family. Even the giant tarantula. Gnarly, a German Shepherd, has a prominent role in this book. He’s such a rascal. You don’t dare turn your back on a morsel, or it’ll magically disappear and Gnarly will be looking at you with innocent eyes and a wagging tail. Lots of hopping back and forth from one side of the country to the other keeps the action escalated and solving the mystery elusive. And you’ll love the ending. I’m still grinning. Even though I’ve jumped around in this series and missed some books, it was easy to jump back in as each book has different mysteries and characters to focus on. There’s also a list of the characters with a short bio in the beginning of the book to refresh your memory. Another page turner in the series. And I’ll be ready for the next one.

Cancelled Vows by Lauren Carr is the second book of hers I have read. This is the first time I have met Mac Faraday and read one of his mysteries. One thing I really like about Ms. Carr’s writing is that even though she is writing a murder mystery and some really bad stuff has happened and is happening, she is able to throw in some lighthearted moments and ease the tension a bit. I also highly enjoy her prominent placement of animal characters in her books. And Gnarly, Faraday’s dog who is forced to go to New York with him due to an unforeseen, unfortunate situation, really steals the show for me. What a stinker and a hero he is. The only reason Mac Faraday and his half- brother, David O’Callaghan have to make this impromptu trip to New York City is for David to divorce his wife, who neither David or the wife, even knew they were married, so that David can finally marry his high school sweetheart Chelsea. As easy as that sounds, both Mac and David are unaware of the danger that they are walking into and how high up the chain of command it goes. With twists and turns a plenty in every imaginable way, I at times didn’t know who to root for especially in the romance department. Not knowing who to trust and wondering how our heroes were going to get back home alive and in one piece makes for one exciting adrenaline rush of a read. I look forward to more of Ms. Carr’s work. I received a copy for an honest review from iRead Book Tours and the opinions are my own. Content: Some sexual innuendo, some language, and violence, nothing gratuitous in nature.

Lauren Carr in her new book, “Cancelled Vows” Book Eleven in the Mac Faraday Mystery series published by Acorn Book Services gives us another adventure with David O’Callaghan and Mac Faraday. From the back cover: Police Chief David O’Callaghan and Chelsea Adams’ wedding day is fast approaching. Unfortunately, at the last minute, David discovers that there is one small problem to be taken care of before he can walk down the aisle—divorce his first wife! Lauren Carr takes fans of the Mac Faraday mysteries to the Big Apple in this nail biting adventure. In Cancelled Vows, David, Mac, and Gnarly, too, rush to New York City to dissolve David’s marriage to an old girlfriend—and he’s got five days to get it done. When murder throws up a road block, it is up to David’s best man, Mac Faraday, and Gnarly, K9-in-waiting, to sort through the clues to get David to the church in time! What is it going to take for Police Chief David O’Callaghan to marry Chelsea Adams? Well Ms. Carr gives us a clue: “David has to go to New York City to divorce her.” Sounds simple? Right? Nothing is ever that easy in a Lauren Carr mystery. This is a complex plot where you are rooting for David, Chelsea and Mac to solve this mystery so that he can get his divorce. “Cancelled Vows” is loaded with twists and turns and red herrings that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next. Take the phone off the hook and make yourself a big bowl of popcorn because once you get started you will not want to put this book down until you actually finish. This is a great murder mystery that is going to keep you guessing. I look forward to the next adventure. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from IRead Book Tours. Wow what a wonderful mystery. This book is a page turner! The characters are likable and the cover fits the story perfectly. This book was filled with action, adventure, twists and turns, This is a great mystery and I highly recommend it. I also loved how this was a "clean" book. There was no fowl language, sex scenes, and so forth. The only thing is that it is a murder mystery book so if you do not like this genre this book many not be for you The scenes are not graphic in though. I have read murder mysteries that were too graphic to be enjoyable. This one is not one of them. I cannot say how much I loved this book. This book is part of the series A Mac Faraday Mystery. This is not the first book in the series but you will have not trouble reading it if you have not read it. I did and enjoyed every minute of it. I received a copy of this book from iReads book Tour for an honest review
