CHAPTER 1

1.

Living fully includes caring for yourself and giving care to others. Keeping both in balance will make your journey through life rich and rewarding.

2.

Giving care is sacred. Recognize that your actions are prayer in motion.

3.

Value the gifts of caregiving. It's an opportunity to grow in tolerance, patience, compassion, and understanding of the limitless power of love.

4.

Let your wise and gentle inner voice guide you in your caregiving. There's no "perfect" way to care. Perfection isn't the goal. Love is.

5.

Sometimes helping others means allowing them to give. A homemade card, a smile, a heartfelt "thank you" are gifts to be treasured. Graciously accept what others have to offer.

6.

You needn't guess at what is helpful to others. Ask what would be of most benefit to them right now. Their needs may change from moment to moment, from day to day. Remain flexible and open.

7.

Prayer can bring comfort to those in need. When appropriate, ask, "Would you like me to pray with you?" You can also pray privately for someone in your care. Have faith and pray simply.

8.

Let honesty create space for connecting with others. Speaking your truth, whether to yourself or someone else, opens pathways to the heart.
