Overview

Murder, sunken treasure, and pirates both ancient and modern send Doc Ford on a nightmare quest in this New York Times bestseller in Randy Wayne White's thrilling series.

Marine biologist Doc Ford has been known to help his friends out of jams occasionally, but he's never faced a situation like this.

His old pal Carl Fitzpatrick has been chasing sunken wrecks most of his life, but now he's run afoul of the Florida Division of Historical Resources. Its director, Leonard Nickelby, despises amateur archaeologists, which is bad enough, but now he and his young "assistant" have disappeared—along with Fitzpatrick's impounded cache of rare Spanish coins and the list of uncharted wreck sites Fitz spent decades putting together. Some of Fitz's own explorations have been a little...dicey, so he can't go to the authorities. Doc is his only hope.

But greed makes people do terrible things: rob, cheat, even kill. With stakes this high, there's no way the thieves will go quietly—and Doc's just put himself in their crosshairs.

Highly recommended suspense thriller! An action packed story that takes Doc Ford & Tomlinson to the Bahamas. Modern pirates and sunken treasure, Masonic lore and the strange Marl people, a psycho movie producer and memorable sympathetic characters particularly the unbeautiful Lydia, the unpredictable Dr. Leonard Nickelby, and charter boat captain Tamara. Some funny dialog too. No wonder the wildly successful Doc Ford series continues to skyrocket!

Confusing plot. Hard to follow characters. Not up to a par with his previous stories.

Great story! I love the Doc Ford series and have read every one. This story didn't have a lot of Doc Ford and Tomlinson like usual. But I like how the book is so descriptive of the areas and the people. Really curious now what might happen with Hannah and Doc, since I love to read both series.

I really enjoyed this book. It was my first introduction to the series. I have made arrangements to stay two weeks on Pine Island in February. Can't wait

I recently discovered Randy Wayne White and the Doc Ford series. My mother, who is an invalid in another state, is also reading them. We started with The Heat Islands and worked our way up to Caribbean Rim. I moved to Tampa a few years ago, am an avid scuba diver and have traveled the Caribbean extensively. It is apparent that he has done an extensive amount of research, and I suspect has lived a rather adventuresome life. These books have given me an opportunity to share an adventure with my mother even though she has never left her house. I look forward to our phone calls each day and we have begun to feel like we are part of the Dinkin's Bay family. These are reminiscent of John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee series, but with a much more modern flare.

The most confusing, uninteresting book I ever read. It was torture. Shame on Randy Wayne White. My wife and I will never buy another book by him. One star is too generous. John Albert

The ending could’ve used a bit more substance.

I have read all Mr. White's books and I can not believe this was written by him. Very bad!

Really enjoyed this one. Too bad it sounds like the end of the line for Doc Ford.

The book's incredible, I finished it early this morning. The most exciting Doc Ford adventure yet. And what an ending!
