Carrie's Story: An Erotic S/M Novel by Molly Weatherfield

"I had been Jonathan's slave for about a year when he told me he wanted to sell me at an auction. I wasn't in any condition to respond when he told me this." So begins Carrie's tale of uncompromising sexual adventure. Set in San Francisco and Napa Valley, this is an erotic journey into the netherworld of slave auctions and training regimes. Imagine Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative lit who moonlights as a bike messenger and has a penchant for irony, self-analysis, and anal sex.

Chapter One: Jonathan

I had been Jonathan's slave for about a year when he told me he wanted to sell me at an auction. I wasn't in any condition to respond when he told me this—I was very carefully licking his balls, concentrating on doing it the way he liked, wondering when it would be time to snake my tongue into his asshole, waiting for the little tug on the chain clipped to my nipples, which would be the signal. I got it right, I think—or at least close enough. His cock got very big, and he rammed it deep into my throat, coming hugely, while he continued to tug on the chain. I swallowed hard, letting myself sigh and shudder. He held my head down tightly with one of his hands, only very slowly releasing it, allowing me to relax between his thighs.
It was only later, after I had brought in some tea and buttered toast and knelt silently at his feet while he read through the book review sections—New York Times and San Francisco Chronicle both—occasionally stroking my head and feeding me bits of toast with his fingers, that he decided to tell me what he had meant.
"Did you hear me before, Carrie?" he asked.
"Yes, Jonathan," I said, following the rules we maintained. I always had to address him by name, and deferentially. I also had to look him straight in the eye, which I was doing as well. "But I didn't understand what you meant," I added.
"Well, get dressed," he said. "We'll go for a walk, and I'll tell you."
"Yes, Jonathan," I said. He removed the nipple clips and attached a leather leash to the collar around my neck. The leash dangled down between my breasts, and he pulled it up between my legs, looping it around my waist and knotting it in the back. He often said that he wished he could take me on a leash whenever we went out, but he couldn't without causing a stir. So this would have to do. The leather felt tight between the lips of my cunt. I put on a pair of jeans, a big turtleneck sweater, and some high-heeled boots. You couldn’t see the leash or collar, of course, but I was very conscious of them, as I always was. Jonathan had gotten dressed while I was getting the tea, but I helped him put on his boots and got his leather jacket from the closet.
We looked, I guess, like any yuppie couple out walking on Filbert Street on a Sunday afternoon. No, to tell you the truth, we’re better-looking. Or at least Jonathan is. He has warm olive skin, a lively, quirky, intelligent face, and very bright brown eyes. He’s tallish, with elegant shoulders and a tapering waist. I’m not as special-looking, though I think I’m okay, and I do think we look nice together. His gray hair and brown eyes look great against my brown hair and gray eyes, and we have almost matching very short haircuts. As for the rest of me—a little taller than average, small bones, slender hips. Pale skin and a wide mouth. Stormy gray shadows around my eyes, even when I’ve gotten lots of sleep.
The day was a little foggy, but we were warm from sex and tea, and I was too confused and curious to worry about any chill in the air anyway. Jonathan held my hand tightly and began to explain.
“You don’t know about the auctions, I guess,” he said, “or how slave ownership really works. But haven’t you wondered, when we’ve gone to dressage shows, what the real relationships are?”
“Yes, Jonathan,” I said meekly, “I had hoped you’d tell me.”

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

"Today, it seems no one can talk about a BDSm novel—hell, we can't talk about any erotic fiction—without invoking Fifty Shades of Grey. This novel was written before Fifty Shades, and it surpasses it on nearly every level. But one difference in particular stands out: Carrie's Story is about a submissive female heroine with a brain! Carrie is the thinking woman's submissive—sharp, funny, self-reflective, much like the woman who created her, who is also a wonderful storyteller."
—Tristan Taormino

"Sharply written and sizzling hot, Carrie's Story is a must-read for lovers of smart erotica."
—Colette Gale, bestselling author of UNMASQUED: An Erotic Novel of the Phantom of the Opera

“A wise, literate and enduring novel about dominance and submission. At each reading, the quality of the writing takes me by surprise and pulls me in again. A wonderful exploration of the literary edge of arousal.”
—Anneke Jacob, author of the award winning As She’s Told

“Before there was Anastasia, there was Carrie. A rip-roaring ride through the world of dominance and submission."
—Kristina Wright, editor of the Best Erotic Romance series

"Carrie’s Story destroyed my writing schedule over the past two days. Wonderful book!"
—Cherise Sinclair, author of the Master of Shadowlands series

"Molly Weatherfield set the standard with Carrie’s Story and Safe Word."
—Annabel Joseph, author of Comfort Object and Mercy

"The modern day Story of O."
-Eden Bradley, award-winning author of The Dark Garden

"What a smart-mouthed, daring heroine, and what a smart, delicious novel! The thinking man's (and woman's, and couple's) BDSM erotica."
—Eric Selinger, editor, Journal of Popular Romance Studies

“Scary as it is seductive; savage, funny, and with disarming moments of tenderness and charm. You want the world of this book to be real.”
—Janet Mullany, author of Hidden Paradise

"Provocative and evocative, Jonathan and Carrie's relationship is the perfect example of how not every love story has to be a romance. Carrie's Story holds a permanent place on my shelf as one of my favorite erotic books."
–Megan Hart, author of The Space Between Us

"Carrie’s Story is no mere novel of sex for the masses, but a brilliantly penned story of mastery and seduction for the smart, literate set. If you crave a tale of dominance and submission that entices readers without demeaning them, Carrie's Story is one that will captivate you to the end. Brave and beautiful, indeed."
–Shanna Germain, author of Bound by Lust

"From the very first sentence, I knew Carrie's Story was destined to be a classic of our generation."
—Alison Tyler, author of Best Bondage Erotica and Hurts So Good

"This thoroughly engaging novel is destined to become a modern-day classic, beautifully blending an intricate S/M underground world with the erotic flowering of a young, sexy and wry-humored female."
—Good Vibrations

"Engrossing and electric"

"This book was so hot it was hard to read at work. This reviewer was writing naughty emails to her boyfriend before she'd finished page one, and the weekend that ensued was a blur of delightfully kinky sex. Carrie's Story is extremely well-written for an SM novel — the protagonist is strikingly intelligent, the story is genuinely interesting and the wonderfully smutty scenes sizzle off the page."

". . . unlike anything I have read. It is very graphic in detail and does explain many scenes that may make some readers somewhat uneasy. There was excellent development of characters as the reader is taken through Carrie's exciting journey. Aside from the warning comments, I congratulate Ms.Weatherfield on an extremely wonderful book."
—Coffee Time Romance

"A bit of modern erotica that slyly evokes the classics, both as context and as gristle the main character chews upon. Written with wit, style and intelligence, dirty and tough enough for the hardest to please. If you live an urban life, you'll recognize this character. I do! Great smut for those with a literary bent."

". . . partly a Keystone Comedy romp with whips, leather, and chains, partly a stunning tribute to Pauline Reage's Story of O, and partly an odyssey which — if they did erotic flicks - the Coen brothers might have titled "O, Sister, Where Art Thou?" . . . . There is plenty of juicy, passionate expression in Carrie's Story, but, like much of what we review at Clean Sheets, this is literate smut for the discriminating reader with taste as well as... hmm... let's call them compulsions to exercise the deeper, shadier side of human desires."
—William Dean at Clean Sheets

". . . the American twist on Story of O. Weatherfield . . . gives her own take on chateau porn and the seductiveness of submission. . . . bristles with wit."

"My favorite neo-Victorian erotic romance writer . . . bring on the ponies!"
—Susie Bright

"Carrie's Story is a well written and very erotic account of mastery and submission. This story contains some of the most erotic pony girl training sessions I’ve ever read. I definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in pony training or learning about domination and submission."

"I was stunned by how well it was written and how intensely foreign I found its sexual world . . ."
—Boing magazine

"Most SM fiction takes the shape of bad erotica loosely held together by a plot only good for skimming through while looking for the horny bits…It’s a sheer delight, therefore, to find what is foremost a great novel—that just happens to have an SM theme and pervy characters."
—Skin Two magazine

"Hilarious and harrowing . . . just when you think things can’t get any wilder, they do."
—Black Sheets magazine

he first thing I want to tell you is that your impressions of this book are nothing what it actually is like. The cover is haunting, and the blurb rather raunchy, but even as a novel encompassing the infamous human slave auction, or even further, human pony camps, Carrie's Story is more than a work of erotica, more than literary pornography; it is truly a work of art. I'd never read an BDSM novel before, and quite frankly, I'd never wanted to. But being a Naked Reader Book Club member, I decided I would have to face my discomforts, and give Carrie's Story, one of the monthly selections, a chance. Sometimes, you discover the best things in life by taking the highest of risks. And in this case, that's exactly what happened. I'm not saying I love S/M now. No. The thought of it still makes me a little queasy. But this book has brought me into a whole new world of literature, one that I find myself craving. BDSM, bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadism and masochism, is a taboo subject of nature itself. Flogs, chains, gags, and leather aren't even the extremest of it in this neo-Victorian novel. Think ponies. Human ponies. Think bridles and reigns on human bodies, think whips and saddles on human flesh. Think tails, attachable only through a plug through the anus, and think of modern slavery. All very frightening concepts that I have been introduced to, and am no longer disgusted with. Don't get me wrong. Carrie's Story doesn't downplay anything, oh no. You get the rawest of humiliation, the ugliest of flaws, and the most painful of experiences. You also get unblemished emotions, ranging from homeliness, to loss, to desire, and a love story that is so untraditional in doctrine, that it makes you want to be a part of it. Jonathan is every literature geek's dream. Handsome, obscure, slightly older. And Carrie is just the right girl to fall for him. Little does she know what she's in for...well, aside from the fact that he asks her to be his slave within hours of acquainting. "Meet me at 3 pm," he says, handing her a folded note with an address. Obviously, Carrie won't take up on his offer; he is a stranger, after all. Miraculously, she does, though. And so begins their long, but surreptitiously short-lived relationship. The horrors of being beaten as a sexual fetish have always dawned on me. I've never found it arousing, or even amusing in the least. Carrie's Story hasn't changed that in me, but I still admit many of the sex scenes are mind-blowing. The fact that one could love the person who beats and whips them until bruises brandish, and permanent welts form, is beyond my perception. Molly Weatherfield however, does an extraordinary job convincing me. A question arises while reading this novel: How is the fine line between two lovers and a slave and a master determined? I always thought it would be difference in inclination of emotions, but after reading Carrie's Story, I've learned that the way you as a woman, feel about your lover, is not too distant from the way you as a slave, feel about your master. And that is the message Carrie tries to bear.

Many years ago I read the book "The Story of O" which introduced me to a world of sexual pleasureful possibilities I felt I belonged to, but then -- I did not live it, and after years of regular relationships I met a man who brought me back to this side of myself. I started to read whatever I could find to understand myself and discovered, of course, the book "Carrie's story". I am very grateful for the book, grateful for the real person behind the novel, all the mind game she is going through to embrace her submissive part, the education and her smart, witty, ironic side of a young intelligent woman with a all-so-normal job. All the book is very explicitly and intelligently written, the language sometimes bold, erotic, exotic, fun, open. I will recommend this book for everybody who is involved in BDSM, but also for everybody who is exploring the topic, or simply wants an erotic read of another kind. I put a lot of remarks into my book and will read the book again shortly.

...although there's no shortage of the latter either. Weatherfield writes a brilliant story with a protagonist who manages to hold your attention. Carrie is complex, and more into the self-discovery aspect of BDSM than the usual lost girl looking for a daddy as is all too common in the genre. This is fairly high level writing that has perfect pacing. The only criticism I'd have is the 'pony girl' stuff which I just consider to be weird. The ending packs a visceral punch and sets up perfectly for a second act. Well done. If you like this book, also check out A Lady Pays Her Penalties by Ashley Zacharias -- which is the best buy on B&N as it is free.

This book is amazing! I've only started reading BDSM Erotica a couple of months ago and started off with the Fifty Shades Trilogy and then moved on to the Crossfire Series... Neither of those series can compare to Carrie's Story (or Safe Word!) This book is magnificent! Brilliantly written! And I do not want to spoil it for others so I will not go into more detail other than recommending this book to the curious, open minded reader. If you like Erotica you will LOVE this book.

I liked this book even more than Story of O because I actually got to experience the dive into the scene through the eyes and reflections of a smart woman! Forget 50 Shades, this book has all the sex and BDSM you could want, plus complex characters and an actual plot. I was so so sad to finish this book and will definitely read it again and again. This book is so much more than erotica.

This book included some excellent descriptions. The characters' motivations may not have been the best, but I absolutely loved the domination scenarios, especially when girl's Master felt particularly sadistic. The pony play elements seemed a tad bit out of place, but overall, this is a well written S&M novel.

This was different for me. I would only recommend reading if you are into this sort of thing. I think it would be very dangerous to put yourself in a situation as Carrie has done here.

I could not get through more than two chapters of "50 Shades" due to the incredibly amateur writing. This was both well written, engrossing, and has become a new favorite of both myself and my spouse. Well, well, worth the read. I'm very much looking forward to reading the sequel!

Reviewed by: Krissygirl Book provided by: Publisher Review originally posted at Romance After Dark, a Romancing the Book site Well don’t be expecting a sweet erotic read because you won’t be getting it in this book. Well you think you know Carrie’s personality but you don’t know anything. She is one person at work but when she is will Jonathan she takes on a new role. This isn’t your regular BDSM book this goes even deeper into the world that you never thought you would ever enter. I have been getting into this funk where I love BDSM books and sorta thought about trying it myself. When I read this book I was taken on a different side of the scene. Not just anyone could do this. You have to submit 100% to your master and you can never speak unless asked. This isn’t the warm feeling kind of read. This book took me on a darker side and made me rethink some things. I like the idea of putting a little spin on your love life but this one wouldn’t be the spin I would want. I like to speak my mind just a little too much. I was glad that I read this book because it shows me a whole different side. I can’t see myself depending on a man, like Carrie does with Jonathan. I was glad that I read this book and got to see a more in depth side to S/M. I will warn you that this is a dark read and don’t expect a happy ending because you will be disappointed. So I say read this book if you dare. If you like it dark and in depth then this is the book for you. I am glad that I took the time and read this book. The author did a wonderful job and I wonder where she got all her information. You will be taken on sexual discoveries that you never even knew about. I was taken out of my comfort zone and I like doing that every once in awhile.

Carrie's Story was given to me because I enjoy reading my fair share of kink but as far as BDSM goes I tend to be a little tame. It was an introduction to something that goes beyond my comfort zone. (I enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey but the extremes of The Story of O and Anne Rice's Beauty series did nothing for me.) This book was intelligently written and made me want to read the last page. Definitely better than Pauline Reage's The Story of O.

Sorry, I kept wondering what decision Carrie was making...seems like she couldn't find out what she wanted or who she wanted it from.

This book was pretty amazing! It wasn't a book that will make you all hot and bothered but it was very entertaining! It kept my attention... I wanted to know what would happen to her. Read it! It made me very interested in that world.

It's ok. But I had a hard time keeping focused on it. It's not that it's bad. Just not for me.

Very different from all the other bdsm I've read. Love all the humiliation & not just sex. Really appealed to my psychi on so many levels.
