Carson loved basketball practice with the Trentwood Tigers until Daniel, the star player, started showing off and hogging the ball. When Daniel refuses to pass to Carson during a drill and then makes fun of him, coach Tony and coach Lauren remind Daniel to have a better attitude. But the team, including Carson, is still upset with Daniel.
 
Things get worse at Trentwood’s next game when Carson’s teammates hurt their chances of winning by not passing to Daniel. As Carson sits on the bench, watching his team fall further behind and Daniel getting more frustrated, he knows he has a choice to make. Will he continue to be angry at Daniel or reach out to him? With his coaches’ help, Carson learns that even though forgiveness can be difficult, it’s the best way to make things right and move on.

About the Author

Tony Dungy is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Quiet Strength and Uncommon. He enjoyed a successful career in the National Football League, winning Super Bowls as a player and as a coach. Tony is involved in numerous charities, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and All Pro Dad. He and his wife, Lauren, are the parents of ten children. Married coauthors Lauren and football Hall-of-Famer Tony Dungy offer the third installment in a sports-themed series. For a boy named Carson, playing basketball with the Trentwood Tigers isn’t as much fun as it used to be: star player Daniel is arrogant on the court, building himself up and putting others down. When he refuses to pass to Carson, claiming that “Carson hasn’t made a shot in forever,” Coach Tony calls Daniel out. During a game, Carson and his teammates ostracize Daniel, which results in the whole team suffering. But the coaches speak to the teammates about the importance of forgiving others and offering mutual support to achieve common goals. Despite an overall stiffness to the artwork and the volume’s pedantic tone, the Dungys’ message to readers is nevertheless authentic. Ages 6–9. (Aug.)
