Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano

Miss Temperance Flowerdew is on her way to work when a stranger suddenly grabs her off the street and sends her on a Chicago-bound train before she can figure out what happened.

When Mr. Gilbert Cavendish is called upon to rescue a missing woman, he follows the trail to Chicago only to discover that the woman is his good friend Temperance. Before they can discover who was behind the abduction, they're seen alone together by a New York society matron, putting their reputations at risk.

Gilbert is willing to propose marriage--except Temperance will have none of it. She's finally stepped out of the shadow of her relations and won't give up her independence. But when it becomes clear the misunderstanding in Chicago has escalated into a threat on her life and followed her to New York, accepting Gilbert's help in solving the mystery may lead to more than she ever could have dreamed.

The dialogue between characters is what gets me going every time! This author knows how to write it! Another fabulous story with amazing and memorable characters. Heart twisting suspense and sparking romance in perfect harmony. Some fabulous twists make this a non-predictable story line! Another bookshelf keeper here.

If you are familiar with the author you know that her characters are fun, independent and very opinionated. Well I'm talking about the women in her stories. I love how she makes them strong, funny, and at times unpredictable. Temperance is a perfect name for our main character. Her temper is quick but she knows what she wants. Now how did she find herself kidnapped ? Temperance loves adventure but I'm sure this is not what she had in mind. I laughed so hard as she is whisked away on an adventure that will keep readers entertained with her shenanigans. The author has created a character that is such fun I have decided I want to join her on her trip. She would be such a hoot to travel with. Gilbert takes it upon himself to save the damsel in distress. Has anyone told Gilbert that Temperance can handle herself just fine? He is in for some real fun and games as he travels with Temperance. I loved when Gilbert asked Temperance, " You'll stay out of trouble?' Oh Temperance you have stolen my heart with your full of life heart and adventure that will send you on a journey you will not expect. Now lets examine this tangled tale before we go any further in the story. Did you miss the part where Temperance was kidnapped, but the wrong woman was kidnapped. So who was the real person who was to be kidnapped and why? Gilbert is so focused on marrying Temperance to keep people from talking about why they were traveling on the train together, that he forgot to investigate why it even happened in the first place. Now on to the story folks. I see a mystery has emerged and it is getting good. Someone is not telling the truth and just what are they hiding? Is it time to take this kidnapping serious? Well I for one want to tell Temperance to watch her back. Something fishy is going on and it doesn't look good for Temperance right now. One of the best parts of the entire story is the tug of war between Temperance and Gilbert. He is all for protecting her and, well we know Temperance. She is fighting him all the way. Just a little advice, Temperance, I love your independence, but for goodness sake let the poor man protect you. I don't know why but they remind me of Lucy and Ricky. I am enjoying every moment of this book and love how gifted the author is by giving us characters we can laugh with, cheer for and pray with. This story is filled with intrigue, is unpredictable and danger lurking around every corner. Can Temperance and Gilbert solve the mystery before they get hurt? Why are family members out to get them? It's getting harder to trust family members when they seem to be deceitful. Don't miss this great adventure that will keep you entertained while trying to unravel the mystery surrounding Temperance. I received a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House. The review is my own opinion.

I am glad to see Temperance coming into her own in Caught by Surprise. We've seen her on the sidelines for two books, and I've been waiting for the day to see her burst out; it's finally here. I will spare you all of the puns rolling about in my head that have to do with temper- so many definitions, and the verb, and as a prefix...I digress. Jen delivers another entertaining read that, while a bit predictable, has enough twists to keep you guessing and a steadily stoking romance. This story has a slower pace romance, in my opinion, for a Jen book, but she makes an art out of tension. So for those of you who prefer that with the kisses few and far between, like a kettle simmering, you'll want to put this on your to-read list. If you're looking for a light funny read that makes you smile beginning to end, also add it. If you prefer real-life grit and a box of Kleenex - still add it; you need a break from the drama. All of the lovable secondary characters have returned. I'm REALLLY hoping that some day we get to read about an older romance focused on Mr. Barclay (hint, Jen! While you're at it there are some lovable secondary characters from other series I'd also like to see, so maybe just write a collection of novellas on them all?) Happy reading! I was provided a copy of this novel by the publisher. A positive review wasn't required. All opinions are mine.

Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano Apart from the Crowd Series Book Three Miss Temperance Flowerdew had forgotten how she used to love life and live it to the fullest. As a child, she would get into all kinds of trouble with her best friend, Gilbert. Then, her parents died, their fortune was gone, and she became a poor relative to distant cousins who treated her as their servant. But once she reunited with Gilbert at a party...the old Temperance came back. So did trouble. Mr. Gilbert Cavendish was a follow the rule guy. Lists, graphs, everything in his life was precise and by the book. Until he was asked to go and rescue an abducted daughter...Temperance's cousin. Suddenly life was all askew. And just as when they were kids, he found himself needing to rescue Temperance—from herself and others. I love Jen Turano's stories. She has fabulous characters that you just fall in love with. Great adventures that usually end up quite humorous. This story had a little more angst in it...what with the death of her parents and the mean extended family...but, it was as lively as ever and as always, a page-turner that I couldn't set down. **Received through NetGalley for an honest review

This author never disappoints me. I always know that I am going to love her books. This one is no different. I love the laughter throughout her stories. This has some great romance along with always giving me a laugh. This series has been wonderful. I am sorry to see the end of these characters. I will miss them all. Temperance and Gilbert were fantastic. Enjoy reading. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

I have been a huge fan of Jen Turano since I read and reviewed her first book A Change of Fortune. With each book the cast of characters are more delightful, entertaining, and will put you in a fit of stitches. I don't usually find others predicaments funny, like getting snatched off the street, but since these were characters and not real it was perfectly appropriate to laugh, and I mean laugh out loud. Which I did a lot of. One of the fun things about series is that we get to catch up with characters from the previous books in the series. And Ms. Turano places them in funny predicaments as well. So, just when you think you're done laughing, believe me you're not! I loved Temperance because she says and does what she wants, which definitely goes against society's norm. She's sassy and snarky, which is what I love in an heroine. The sweet friendship between Gilbert and Temperance was real and so endearing. I loved that he just didn't give up on her. He was a true knight in shining armor. The secondary characters were just as lovable as the main characters. They supported the story perfectly. My Bottom Line: I loved every minute of this story, and the characters. The suspenseful parts were like those of a cozy mystery which was delightful. The faith thread dealt with forgiveness of not only self but others. It was woven nicely throughout the book. I wasn't expecting a mystery at all, and I had no idea what was going to happen next. The crazy situations that all of the characters found themselves in were utterly hilarious. If you are looking for a "Calgon, take me away moment," look no further. This book is a perfect historical rom-com and I highly recommend it!

It may sound trite, but this book was so difficult to put down! Mystery, intrigue, shady individuals, and lots of laughter make for a great read. Wacky characters, loveable characters, characters that make you wonder “what were they thinking?!” They were all great. And author Jen Turano is a master at putting the reader in each scene of the book. Set in the Gilded Age (late 19th Century), if you enjoy historical fiction with light romance and enjoy laughing out loud then you have to read this book! I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano Mystery, attempted murder and mayhem My rating is 4.5 stars Temperance couldn’t care less that her reputation could end up in tatters after the compromising situation she and Gilbert were found in. (After all, it is the 1880’s and being found outside a hotel alone with a man is scandalous!) She wants much more than a marriage to avoid scandal. Even if said marriage is with her best friend since childhood. She wants love and romance and adventure! How in the world would that be possible with straight-laced, rule-following Gilbert? I loved Gilbert and the way he was so confounded by Temperance declining his proposal. Err, suggestion. After all, what matters more than doing what is expected and avoiding stirring up gossip and scandal? The poor man was pulled out of his comfort zone so many times in this story. Temperance was delightful. With her artistic nature and love of freedom, romance and adventure, she may have appeared a bit flighty, but she was truly resilient, having overcome quite a bit of hardship. Her zeal for life and the way she threw herself so completely into each thing she did made her very endearing. Her stubborn nature and temper not so much. Except to Gilbert, when he was honest with himself. This story was full of whimsical adventure, ridiculous situations (I mean that in a good way), mystery, attempted murder and plenty of mayhem. The bumbling criminals and devious relatives added to the interest. Characters from the previous books of the series played large parts in this story in a very welcome way. I found myself laughing out loud throughout the story. My only criticism was that the epilogue had too many loose ends to tie up and ended up cramming what appeared to be too many things into a short chapter. It seemed out of place with the delightful way the rest of the story was told. While it appears this may be the last of the books in this series, I am looking forward to whatever this author writes next. This is such a fun and engaging story! I was hooked from the very first page when Temperance is kidnapped right off the street and finds herself whisked away on a train bound for Chicago. Temperance Flowerdew quickly became my favorite wallflower. Hidden behind her quiet reserve beats the heart of a lioness. The loss of her parents affected her deeply and as a result, she hid within herself. It is only at being reunited with a childhood friend that she blooms and returns to her feisty personality. She is independent, impulsive and sassy! With a fun lively cast of characters, a mystery to solve and lots of laughs, this a story you will want on your keeper shelf to pull out to enjoy again and again! I give this delightful book 5-stars and strongly encourage you to pick up a copy! (I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

Caught by Surprise is a wildly appealing story of love and laughter for ladies everywhere. The longtime friendship between our hero and heroine is a solid foundation for robust banter and exasperated declarations. Jen Turano’s delightful characters, humorous shenanigans, and sweet subtle romance entertain and inspire with sincerity and faith. I highly recommend this story for everyone from teens to the young at heart. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. Caught by Surprise, by Jen Turano, is the third book in the Apart from the Crowd series though it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. Brimming with wit and humor, this book is simply a pleasure to read! Ms. Turano truly has a talent for shaping mere words into beautiful sentences that abound with significance and charm. This novel is certainly creative, captivating, and clever! Aptly titled, Caught by Surprise is enriched by a swiftly paced plot that is infused with scenes of intrigue, adventure, and numerous surprises. It is also a meaningful story of hope, second chances, and new beginnings. Above all, the characters in this novel sparkle like vibrant sea glass. Unique and multifaceted, the characters are utterly engaging and unforgettable. They possess endearing qualities that make them unconventional yet inspiring. Caught by Surprise is a wonderful piece of historical fiction that superbly balances elements of comedy, romance, faith, and suspense, making the story thoroughly readable and wholly entertaining. It is a delightful novel from beginning to end, and I enthusiastically recommend it to all readers. *I was given a copy of this novel from the publisher. A review was not required. The review I have written contains opinions that are entirely my own.

I love this writer. There is one problem I have with her books, I can only read them at home. If not I embarrass myself out in public. I cannot read her novels without laughing out loud. I don't mean a sweet little giggle, no, I laugh until I can't catch my breath. Maybe we have the same since of humor, I'm not sure what it is. I found this story to be the best one she has written, but I might have said that last time. If I'm having a bad week, I can pick up a Jen Turano book and reread it or just some parts. I am immediately taken on a fun and exciting journey. Even her characters have fun names. Temperence Flowerdew, a former wallflower is abducted and thrown into a carriage. She's later placed on a train and ends up in Chicago. Her life time best friend Gilbert Cavendish, in a roundabout way shows up and rescues her. The plot thickens, and there are a lot of who done it parts. I kept trying to figure it out, and I was delightfully surprised at the very end. I had so many favorite quotes, but I chose one that I hope doesn't contain too much of a spoiler. “We best be putting on our disguises, Mercy. It won't do us no good if she gets a look at out faces.” “It also won't do us no good if you keep forgetting to call me Vivian.” “It's apothecary,” Temperance called before she could stop herself, the words echoing eerily around the interior of the coffin. Dead silence was all that greeted her until someone cleared their throat. “You reckon that's God talking to us, Mercy.” “Don't be an idiot, Eugene, the voice came from the coffin.” Get this book, you will love it. I was so surprised and delighted when I won a copy, during a contest, from the author. Thanks Jen, for the book as well as the extra goodies you sent me.

I can always count on this author supplying me a fun story with quirky characters, laugh out loud situations, and sweet romance. This story was all of that. It was also a roller coaster ride the entire way. Just when I thought Temperance and Gilbert would find their way out of trouble, more would find them. In the end love conquers all and we get to enjoy a happy ever after for a beloved couple. Full review is at my website. I received this book complimentary from the author. I was not required to give a review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.

If you want to read a book that will make you giggle, laugh, chuckle, and snort, then grab this one. I know I’m in for a good time when I read one of Jen Turano’s stories, but I was “caught by surprise” by how much I loved Temperance Flowerdew and all her cohorts. Temperance tickled my funny bone with her sassy, dry wit and her endearing mannerisms, while Gilbert stole my heart with his lists and his loyalty and devotion to Temperance. Fellow “wallflowers”, Gertrude Cadwalader and Permilia Griswold, make appearances in this book and add to the fun. I just love the names the author dreams up for her characters. They are so delightful and fit the personalities of the characters so well. Their attempts to navigate New York society in the Gilded Age kept me laughing through the entire book. A brilliantly funny story peopled with amusing, entertaining characters I won’t soon forget, Caught by Surprise is headed straight for my “keeper shelf!” This is the third and last book in the Apart From the Crowd series and can be read as a stand alone book, but why would you want to do that? Read all three of them to get the full impact of these three charming ladies and their friends. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I loved, loved this book. I am recuperating from surgery and staying with a friend. Every time I laughed out loud, which I did often. my friend would ask what I was reading. Miss Temperance Flowerdew is on her way to work when a stranger suddenly grabs her off the street and sends her on a Chicago-bound train before she can figure out what happened. When Mr. Gilbert Cavendish follows the trail to Chicago he discovers that the woman is his good friend Temperance and soon they're seen alone together by a New York society matron, putting their reputations at risk. Gilbert is willing to propose marriage--except Temperance will have none of it. And thus begins the delightful story. Temperance is a delightful character who does exactly what you do not expect. She is often impulsive and quirky and doing the unexpected. But those who know her love her. Gilbert makes list, charts and graphs before every decision. I have tried all through the book to grasp a picture of him, especially carrying a gun. I guess I didn't realize that was required in New York during Victorian times. Can two entirely different types of people ever come together? And what would it take to make it happen? You'll have to read Ms. Turano's book to find out if it can happen. I have read many of Ms. Turano's books and enjoyed each and every one but I don't think I have laughed nearly as much as in this one. It is laugh out loud funny in parts but has a captivating story as the captors are revealed and the need for guns becomes apparent. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my review. I was under no obligation to write a positive one.

Jen Turano is a talented author that I have greatly enjoyed in the past. Despite missing two earlier books in this series, I still eagerly began turning the pages of this novel as soon as it was in my hands. Within the first ten pages, I was already laughing out loud, firmly hooked and immersed in Temperance's delightful escapades. Part of the charm of Turano’s work is her quirky and often stubborn heroines. Temperance is no different. She has many talents and a fun-loving nature, but calling her strong-willed would be a definite understatement. Both funny and annoying, that trait gets her into trouble as often as it helps her out of it--through perseverance. The Gilded Age setting is entertaining and the details that sprinkle the story help to make it unique. Opulent locations of the wealthy are described so well that I can see them in my mind even though the world the characters inhabit is so different from my own. The rules guiding proper society remind me of Regency strictures, which can create some messy tangles. Combined with Turano’s humor, the situations become comic, often physically so. Somehow, in the process of telling a thoroughly entertaining and humorous tale, Turano manages to gently pull at threads of profound significance. Considering how our pasts shape who we become, for example, and how we can then use that to form a wonderful future, even one we may never before have considered. She had me both laughing and crying over the course of the novel, and threw in a few surprising twists that I did not see coming. Every time I read a new book by Jen Turano, I declare it to be my new favorite. But this one—this one is different. Perhaps it's the sweet romance of childhood friends who discover each other again, or the innocent yet not naïve Temperance, but this story has captured my heart. It's going to be hard to write a better novel than this, but if anyone can, Turano's the one to do it. Fans will not be disappointed, and new readers have a treat ahead of them. I received a review copy of this book from the author and publisher but was not required to write a positive review. The thoughts expressed are both honest and my own.

One of the great things about a Jen Turano book is the smiles and laughs it elicits while reading. In Caught by Surprise, the third and final installment of the Apart from the Crowd series, Turano’s trademark humor is alive and well from the first pages to the last. Temperance Flowerdew is a free spirit, independent woman with the heart on an artist. Gilbert Cavendish is a man who always has a plan…and a list..and sometimes a graph. Despite their childhood friendship, these two characters are complete opposites (and know the other’s tendencies well). Mistaken identity, attempted murder, subterfuge from Temperance’s family, and plenty of unsolicited advice from Gilbert’s and Temperance’s friends make Caught by Surprise one of Turano’s best books yet. In the midst of the humorous banter, the many matchmakers, and the hilarious attempts at romantic gestures, Temperance is grateful for the depths of her friendships as she discovers life’s joys and passions. There are some heart-tugging scenes in this book in between the laughter. A friends-to-more, opposites-attract story that is a pure reading delight. If you have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing a book written by Turano, Caught by Surprise is proof positive of her God-given talent. Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano is an Apart From the Crowd series book number three. You can read it as a stand alone, but this is such a delightful series I think you will want to also read the first two.( This story is filled with thoughtful reflections on God, adventure, romance, humor, mystery, and is just plain fun to read. The cover is beautiful and it helped me to begin to immerse myself into the time period. I loves the handsome and rather planned hero, Gilbert, and the lovely creative heroine, Temperance. You will have to read the story to find out why Temperance is really quite an ironic name for for our heroine. I loved watching the characters change and draw closer to God. The story is filled with some twists and turns and has a very satisfying ending. I really did not want it to end, and I think it is one of Jen Turano’s best.. Her books are so enjoyable to read while drawing me closer to God. I highly recommend Caught by Surprise by Jen Turano. I was given the book by the publisher and not required to write a review.

I love reading anything by Jen Turano. No other author can make me laugh out loud like she does. I completely enjoy every moment I am lost in one of her books. Caught by Surprise took me on a fun and at times ridiculous journey and I couldn’t get enough. Temperance was a delight to get to know, and I wish I had a friend like her. The situations she constantly found her self in were unlike any other. This is the third book in the series, and I absolutely loved the other two as well. If you haven’t read them I can’t recommend them enough. That being said, you can also enjoy this book as a stand alone novel. This book follows Temperance and her childhood friend Gilbert as they try to discover who wants them gone for good. Being kidnapped in broad daylight on the way to work was not how Temperance wanted to start her day. Not only was it painful, but it put a kink in her plans. Knowing she will be missed, she immediately starts planning her escape. Seeing Gilbert helps her state of mind and helps her return to the life she loves. Unfortunately danger seems to be following her everywhere, and Gilbert can’t help but want to protect her. Can they put their differences aside and discover who has Temperance in their sights? Or will they find something that is sure to change their lives forever? I couldn’t put this book down. Turano just has a way with words that keeps me turning pages late into the night. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Historical Romance. There is the perfect balance between romance, suspense, and comedy. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is book three in Apart From the Crowd series, it is a stand alone book, however you will miss some great reading and lots of history of many of the characters in this book if you jump right into this one. You do not have to read previous books to understand what is going on in this one though. The worst part about a series is waiting for the next one to come out..... I was so excited to finally get to read the story of Temperance. I love her character and the many paths her life has taken her. She has such a love for life and a quick tongue. The sparks between her and Gilbert are amazing. They are opposite in so many ways yet blend so well to be best of friends. Jen Turano is one of my favorite historical, romance writers. I love the comedy, drama, mystery and spark in her writing. She makes it easy to follow along and get lost in her stories.

Temperance has reclaimed the vibrant personality she’s formally subdued under the “care” of her twice removed cousins. She’s enjoying life just fine at Miss Snook’s school, until she’s abducted. This leads to the request made of Gilbert to track down Miss Flowerdew. These two are a lot of fun and are rounded out by Permilia, Gertrude, Asher and Harrison, the Huxley sisters, Mr Barclay, Edwina, Agent McParland and Clementine as well as Mercy, Eugene and Tobias being new to the books. The bulk of the story is trying to find out who is out to harm Temperance and Gilbert, which of course has humor in amongst those dealings. Great conclusion to this series. A complimentary copy was provided by Bethany House with no obligation of a review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

Caught by Surprise is the third book in Jen Turano’s Apart from the Crowd series, coming after Behind the Scenes and Out of the Ordinary. I have been a huge fan of Jen’s ever since I first read one of her books years and years ago, and I have read everything she has written ever since. Honestly, I have to say, I think that this is my favorite series she has written so far, there is just something about it that has made me really enjoy it. Although, I always enjoy everything she writes. There is always the perfect mixture of romance, hilarity, and mystery, and I happen to be extremely fond of Jen’s writing style. And historical novels. As I said in my review of the last book, I was waiting until I read Caught by Surprise before deciding which of the three books was my favorite in the series, and…that was a good idea. Because Caught by Surprise is DEFINITELY my favorite. Although I have absolutely loved every book in this series, I just couldn’t help but fall in love with Temperance and Gilbert, and I found their story to be even more irresistible than the others. There is just something about Temperance—maybe it is her great affinity for adventures, or the way she is completely happy when she’s truly herself, no matter what others think—that reminds her a little bit of me, and that made me love her all the more. So much about her joy, her true character that she heartily embraced once she found her independence that really inspired me, and reminded me of how I should always embrace myself as well and never be afraid to be truly me. And I just love characters who inspire me. Another thing that I absolutely loved about this book was the mystery of it all. There were so many wonderful twists and turns, some unexpected, some I hoped would happen so in a way they were somewhat expected, both just as intriguing and just as perfect. The way they were constantly dodging threats, running from that first abduction and then all that came after, leant such a delightful amount of suspense—of the lighthearted variety—to the story, and I absolutely loved the way that Jen weaved it all together, especially with the numerous revelations that came with it. The plotline of this novel was just so perfectly mapped out; I couldn’t have imagined it any better myself, and that made it all that much more wonderful. Not only that, but Gilbert is also one of my absolute favorite parts of this story. I absolutely loved watching how he grew as a character throughout the course of this book, and though I won’t spoil it for anyone, suffice it to say that even though I loved him at the beginning, I loved him all that much more at the end. He really is the perfect match for Temperance, and though I won’t spoil any part of that either, I absolutely loved how their story progressed, and especially how it ended. Besides that, the many parts that Permilia, Asher, Gertrude, and Hamilton played all throughout this book were just the perfect addition, and I loved getting to catch up with them since I have missed them in the time it’s been since I read their novels. All in all, I absolutely loved this book. Caught by Surprise is the perfect conclusion to this series, and I cannot imagine it being any better. Jen did a phenomenal job of capturing these characters, and their stories, in a way I will not soon forget. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for only my honest review. FANTASTIC – TOO MANY ADJECTIVES TO LIST! *** With some despair, I write this is the final book in the series. I believe it is Jen Turano’s best book yet! I had so many emotions. I was completely hooked from the page one kidnapping of Miss Temperance Flowerdew (Jen does have a way with names) in 1883 – New York. She is whisked off to Chicago by two bumbling criminals.*** Ch. 2 They were sitting at a small table covered in fine linen, slurping their way through steaming cups of tea held in delicate china teacups. “Forgive me for disrupting your tea, but isn’t it a little unusual for kidnappers to whisk their captives away in a private Pullman car?”*** Temperance has a propensity for pastries, a determined nature and favors music and art. But, having fallen from the high rungs of society into the lowly wallflower set, she had resigned herself to keep her head down and accept her lot. But that changes when, at age 25, her cousins are no longer forced to care for her and have tossed her out. *** Through a series of events, she is reacquainted with her childhood friend, Gilbert Cavendish. He is quite sensible, enjoys order, making lists and following the rules. Having grown up with Temperance he understands her outlandish ways and together they take on danger, engagement balls, dastardly deeds, and memorial services for the dearly departed. ***The supporting cast is superb as always! There is a fantastic Go-As-You-Please Quadrille, a couple of “I did not see that coming” moments one of which caused me to remove my reading glasses and pause for the sobbing I was doing, and the most adorable of romantic gestures which had me laughing out loud.*** I can never recommend Jen Turano’s books enough. She remains my all-time favorite author and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!*** In exchange for my honest opinion, I received a copy from the author and Bethany House Publ. which I am privileged to provide with no other compensation.*** SERIES: Apart from the Crowd*** 0. Jen Turano’s writing just keeps getting better and better. In the third book of this series, she continues to deliver her marvelous brand of humor, which is just one of the reasons that I keep reading. Turano includes strong unique characters in this engaging historical fiction storyline. Behind this entertaining novel, Turano reminds readers that as a person embraces and enjoys their own identity and personality, life becomes fuller. Her characters continue to discover individual purpose to benefit society. Along the way, wonderful healthy friendships are established, which could provide a good example for teen readers. I also recommend Caught By Surprise for a lively book club discussion group. Although this book can be read on its own, the first two books are just as fun. I will continue to read anything Jen Turano writes in the future. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
