Overview

Lucia Wright needs a holiday. After years of caring for her “eccentric” younger brother and sister in the country, she accepts a friend’s invitation to spend a few weeks enjoying the season in London only to find that life among the city’s elite may be even crazier than at home.

Lord Edmund Rutherford needs an escape. Sworn since childhood to a woman he cannot abide, he finds himself trapped by the strictures of society and the expectations of those around him. The solution seems simple—feign madness and be sent away for a short period, encouraging his intended bride to end their long engagement, thereby securing his freedom.

Lucia and Edmund are thrown together by chance, and while he should be the last man on earth she would find appealing, Lucia becomes fascinated by the gentleman who seems rational to no one but her. Together they are forced to weather a madhouse, the vengeful scheming of a woman who wants Edmund’s title at all costs and a world that appears to have lost all reason.

Kate has done a wonderful job developing the characters in this book. My favorite is Lucia, though I feel sorry for her most of the time. She has such a heart, but her charges are beyond control. Thank goodness for the humor throughout the book; it takes the edge off the suspense. Edmund is my next character to root for. Though he is quite inventive when it comes to getting out of his obligations, I do not think he deserves his consequences. Overall, I enjoyed the plot and characters and have recommended this book to friends.

Story was all over the place. Ending blah. Disappointed as it had a good plot.

I wanted a little more out of this book. It wasn't bad not by a long shot. I wanted more depth and detail I guess. The storyline was very interesting but in a way the story felt rushed because of not having the depth/details. In certain parts the story isn't very believable maybe that is why I'm not liking as much. Anyhow I would like to read the next book in the series.

Kate Dolan has every reason to be proud of this book. It is an engrossing read with characters painted with a fine brush. I was unable to put it down for more than a few minutes before having to see what would happen next. While some seem to bemoan the lack of raw sex, I applaud the author for her restraint. I read about 15-20 books a week and this one really held my attention and, obviously, interest. Kudos Kate!

Merely okay. Which was disappointing.

Got to page 30. So many names thrown around in the first few pages it was like walking into a party and being surrounded by strangers and trying to remember them all. Very confusing. Also, and this is just personal taste, I like books that show where the chapter breaks are. Sometimes I read in small snips and I will not start a chapter if it is very long because I know I will not finish it. Hate when a book is formatted with no know breaks. Just my thing.

I really loved the book's plot. The ending is what really knocked the rating down. I liked where it was going only to look down to see it had less than one hundred pages. I cringed knowing there was too much going on toend it well. As far romance, i'd give it a single.star. Other than a love at first sight , it had no courting feelings or anything at all to make you feel any emotion between the main characters. The kissing moments in the book could easily of been left out and you wouldnt notice. This kind of bummed me because i was looking for a passionate love story with a great not over done plot without erotica. I will be looking to read another book by this author. I believe she has potential!

Deserves one star. This is my first book by Ms. Dolan. There is no romance! The story babbles on forever. The “Overview” was more interesting than the actual book/story. No man of standing in Regency time or after would fake insanity to get out of a marriage agreement; there are other more clever ways out. For any hint of insanity in a man of means in Regency time or after would be looked on as outcast and not have his social standing anymore and social standing was the air they breathed back them. It was too farfetched; I had to start skimming the book just to get to the end which was lackluster at best.

Enjoyed. Funny at times.

Witty conversation that stays true to the time period, if a bit brash! Endearing characters show the reader a new perspective of London's high society in this darling tale where first impressions turn out to be the best intuition on a person's character.

This story babbles on forever. I am on chapter 14 and still nothing has happened. I am calling it quits. I can not suffer through this book any longer.

This is my first book by Ms. Dolan. I like the place the male lead went but not his lack of planning. As a Lord, he should have been more clever. I liked the female lead. The book is 541 pages. There is no romance! The mother was too weak. The villian was too smart. Out of all the hundred of romance novels i have read, i have rarely seen a doctor report a patience condition to just anyone and the Lords staff practically turn his house over to someone else. He should have fired them all, plus his solicitor.
