I couldn't put it down.
Ava is a pediatric nurse in the same hospital that Logan is a surgeon in Shell Cove, Florida. Ava had a huge crush on the doctor but, because of the difference in their positions, she never let her feels show. Logan was strongly attracted to Ava and pursued her. He didn't care about the social or racial differences they shared but his family (mother) did! Since both Ava and Logan had past relationship issues that affected their romance, neither could trust the other. There were so many things that blocked this pair from becoming a couple that I was deeply saddened for them. I felt so sorry for Logan being forced to marry Rebecca just to join their families and have him get a position on the hospital board. The subtle threats from Rebecca's father and not so subtle threats from Logan's mother were shocking. Poor Ava was verbally attacked by Logan's mother more than once when she tried to get rid of her that I felt bad for Ava and understood why she felt she had to leave Logan (for his own good). I didn't like the dominance Logan displayed to Ava. Yes he had his reasons but he never shared them with Ava. I particularly didn't like the way he always referred to Ava as "mine". Other than that issue with Logan, I did like the characters and found them believable. The secondary characters were a mix of fun like Granny Lou or horrible like Maribelle that all helped make this story terrific. I enjoyed this book and am glad I won it in a Just Contemporary Romance giveaway.
