Posted on Romancing the Books blog / Reviewed by Jen / Reviewed copy provided by Netgalley / Like a lot of people, I’ve been feeling the money crunch lately. So when I saw this title, I knew I had to pick it up. Who couldn’t use tips on how to save money and time? Problem was, in the end, this book just wasn’t for me. Let me start by saying that if you’re going to get this book, I don’t recommend getting the ebook version, which is what I read. Perhaps it was my ARC copy, but I was unable to really search for what I wanted or needed with any sort of ease. This is one of those types of books where the physical copy would just be much more convenient. I also found the formatting to be pretty bad, but again, I read an eARC, so that was hopefully cleared up by publishing time. Honestly, there are tons of useful tips in this book ranging from your car, cleaning, kids and shopping. Things like “To keep your car smelling fresh, put some of your favorite potpourri in a mush bad and tuck it under the front seat. No more dangling pine trees from your rearview mirror.” Or “Spray your dustpan with furniture polish and the dust will slip right off.” Handy right? But for me, all too often I’d have no use for the tips since I live in an apartment and don’t have kids or pets. I totally understand that the author has to write a book that will appeal to people of all ages and circumstances, but more often than not I was skimming headings looking for tips that would apply to my life. And many of those that did apply were pretty common sense. For me, this book would have been better if it was part of a series… break it up into smaller books that concentrate on the different categories so that people can get faster access to have they really want tips on and can avoid those they don’t need. Would I recommend this title? Sure. Will I be picking up another tip book for myself? Probably not.
Mary Hunt is a TIP GENIUS! Seriously, I don't know many books that can offer OVER 2,000 tips and tricks that save you time & money ~ But this one sure does and let's face it.... We all can use money saving ideas these days! Cheaper, Better, Faster has 16 chapters filled with various tips from cars, kids, pets, to holidays, cooking, and traveling, and much more in between. This would be a FABULOUS wedding gift or for a college grad, but then again, it would be a fabulous gift for ANYONE! I learn something new each time I read it! Her gift giving ideas are excellent and very heartfelt! Thank you Mary! I love your book and thank you Donna @ Revell Books for allowing me this complimentary book in exchange for my honest review!
CHEAPER, BETTER, FASTER is the book to have when looking for practical and economical solutions to problems around the house. This handy book contains 2,000-plus tips and tricks to solve everyday problems without costing big bucks. Most of the solutions involve ingredients that are readily available and you probably already have on hand. The book is divided into helpful chapters making it easy to locate a solution to your problem quickly. Saving time and money is the focus of these tips in an effort to make life a bit easier in our stress-filled days. The tips are short, practical, and easy to accomplish. They cover a vast array of problems such as gift basket ideas for every occasion, a mixture to kill cockroaches, how to remove perspiration stains, how to soften harden paint brushes, and why packing clear tape when you travel comes in handy to list just a few. There are tips and tricks for almost every problem you encounter in your day-to-day life. CHEAPER, BETTER, FASTER is designed efficiently and would make a great resource to have handy for those persistent problems that spring up daily. FTC Full Disclosure - I requested this book as part of the author’s blog tour promotion. This book was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.
This book that boasts of "over 2000 tips and tricks to save you time and money every day" immediately caught my eye. But, I'm not going to lie--when I got it in the mail and saw how thick it was, I recoiled a bit. Because, let's face it, no one likes a nearly 400 page non-fiction book. However, I was pleasantly surprised as I started to read the book. It is very well-organized both by category and alphabetical order. Plus, each "tip" is quite short. So, it's easy to flip through this book and find what you need quickly. The format is double column with bold titles to make it easy to find things. There are tips on everything from cleaning to travel to cars to shopping. I like this book so much. It will come in handy for me tons. The section for moms and children may not be applicable to me, but the other sections certainly are! This book has got something for everyone.
