Chosen
Something lives in the Mercy River, which flows through Ludlow, Pennsylvania. A nobody named Mal Warner finds out firsthand when he drowns in it, and comes back from the dead. He saw the Light in the Dark, and wants to share it with others in the town, forcing them into the river, one by one, two by two, in ever-growing groups of drowned, undead Brethren. Only Max Paulsen...photographer, blogger, slacker...and a handful of others in the tiny town realize what's happening, and try to put a stop to it before Ludlow itself falls to the Light in the Dark and the cold, clammy hands of the Brethren. This band of Breathers takes matters into their own hands: Max, and art teacher, a high school student, a priest, a federal agent--and wage a private war with the walking dead, street by street, house to house, in their bid to beat the Brethren before it's too late. Is seeing believing? Or is everybody losing their minds? And just what is the Light in the Dark, what monstrosity dwells in the depths of the polluted old river, eager to claim new souls to feed its ravenous appetite. Only Max and the others have a hope of stopping it and saving Ludlow before it's too late.
