No one in American popular music except Bob Dylan in 1964-66 equaled John Fogerty's 1969-70 peak. Chronicle compiles the cream of the Creedence singles crop. I can't think of anyone who bettered CCR's ability to consistently turn political themes into populist songs. Somehow they took their limited musical abilities and transcended both rock and country. Anyone who collects 20th century US popular music should own this disc. Chronicle Volume Two, a collection of album tracks, is almost as good.

As an avid fan of both CCR AND Vinyl LP's I was thrilled to see the newest display at my local B&N of the glorious Vinyl Albums on display. For some reason they has this listed for almost $4 cheaper in the store than online so I got it for $19.99 before my membership discount. I was thrilled to bring it home and throw it up on my LP player. Right away the LP was skipping. Visually, I didn't see anything wrong with the disk. On the turn-table I did notice it was a little more warpped than most LP's I own, but that really shouldn't have mattered. It is quite possible the LP had manufacturing flaws when it was made from a master recording. They clearly don't make vinyl like they used to. So now I am going to have to return this for either an exchange or refund. Maybe I will revise the review when I can get a replacement and find out for sure if the issue is just this vinyl record or a whole lot of them. The two stars is NOT for CCR, it's for the pooly made LP. Which does count as a significant portion of the review since quality matters and should be noted. The sound was fine....just wish it didn't skip like crazy. And yes...I know all the little "Tricks" to keep a LP from skipping on cheap turn tables...this did not work, the skips were all in the same place everytime meaning the design of the LP it'self was flawed.

Creedence is my favorite Classic Rock Band. They have a wonderful unique sound and are ''all American''. This cd has a wide variety of songs from Bad Moon Rising,Proud Mary to Fortunate Son. Anyone who loves Classic Rock must purchase this cd, it is a must!!!

Not only is CCR one of the greatest singles bands in history (making this compilation coherant), but a full sampling of 20 tracks gives a complete overview of the band's career. I won't bother listing the highlights because there are too many; all the songs here are classics. Some people compain about the 11-minute rendition of ''I Heard It Through the Grapevine'' because they claim it slows down the album, but the song demonstrates that CCR was a viable instrumental unit, and not just John Fogerty's backup band.

CCR is one of my favorite bands, and their music is timeless after over 30 years. Everytime I hear "Fortunate Son", I think about George W., and wonder if he uses the song at campaign rallies. I would suspect not!
