This book takes you back to a time where chivalry still lives. You are thrust into a new world that keeps pulling you in. I could not put this book down and loved every one in the series. This isn't just a book without a meaning. It carries with it a deeper meaning and teaches you that God can heal all wounds.

I must admit that I have had this series of books sitting on my shelf for quite some time. I have always enjoyed the look of the book and its jagged pages. I put off reading them because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the time period and location of these books (the highlands of medieval Scotland). But I want so say that after reading book one I am hooked and ready to begin book 2! Carol Umberger does a great job of catching and holding your interest and also giving you a history lesson of the times while you read. Gwenyth Comyn is a young lady whose father has been killed by Robert the Burce and pledges revenage on those who killed him. Adam Mackintosh is her sworn enemy and soon to be the new laird of the land in Scotland. Gwenyth finds herself being "married" to this man, after being brutally used by another. "Did she dare to hope that love would grow out of loyalty and commitment as Adam believed? Could she trust him with her battered heart?" This is a story of "victory that belongs to those who do God's will. No matter how difficult the situations, you must trust God." This was a hard book to put down for me and so I read it rather quickly. The character of Adam was someone anyone would admire and his way with Gwenyth was very refreshing and made you feel good about them both. This was time well spent and enjoyed and I hope the other 3 books in this series will be just as good. Time to go find out!

This series was overall good, but not great. Passion seemed to be seriously lacking when the lovers finally did end up together. Not that I was wanting graphic romance, these are Christian romance novels, but it just felt glossed over after so much build up. I much preferred Author Linda Windor's two medieval series to this series by Carol Umberger.

This was a pretty good book. I love Highland romances and found this at the used bookstore. Like the description says, the book has deckled edges which made me buy it then and there (Pages like that are so cool!).  There is very minimal description which I enjoyed because I was able to picture things my way. The only downside was that I had a hard time picturing a couple minor characters because they had no description but gender. As far as a deep read, it was not. The villain really had no depth and the conflict was mostly political. However, as a romance, the tension between the hero and heroine was great. Over all, it was enjoyable and I plan to find the next one in the series.

This book is one that I've read about a dozen times. The characters and plot have a convincing depth- one could almost believe it is a true story. Great read.

This book is a stunningly crafted story of love on the eve of Scotland's independence. Ms. Umberger is able to include historical accuracy, relatable characters, and the plot is thoroughly engaging. The tale of Adam and Gwyneth's romance will truly capture the hearts of readers. I read this book in 3 days and could not put down. Magnificent.

I thought the book was excellent. It held my attention from the beginning and I could not put it down. I understand it is a triligy. I can't wait until the second book is finished in May!
