I had my doubts at first, as I tend to prefer lighter yarns, but now I absolutely love this book. Clear, easy-to-follow instructions, and the charts were so helpful (normally I'm not a chart knitter at all). Plus the photography is creative and beautiful, and I love the stitch patterns. You do need to check your gauge and make sure it matches up, but you should do that with any project you knit (I also think this was the problem for the person who had small mitts). You don't have to buy the recommended yarn, though the project will look so pretty if you do! Cannot recommend this book highly enough!!
