Some of the references are a bit dated now, but the story still resonates. . This is a quick, often funny read, but throughout the often confessional novel, I kept thinking how today the author might have been serving prison time for child neglect and/or abuse. Also in this day of greater awareness, it seemed strange to hear so many people who surrounded the narrator, scoff off the idea that she was an alcoholic. It reminded me that no one can every really know what goes on behind closed doors in a marriage.I'd like to pick up the sequel.

I bought this book when it was first out, in the late 70's. I have probably read at least a dozen times. It's funny and I can relate to almost every character in the book. (mother, husband, Cassie) A great read.
