About the Author

Sir Charles Harding Firth (1857–1936) was a British historian who specialized in the English civil war and the Commonwealth. He taught at a number of colleges, ultimately holding the position of Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford. Firth is the author of a number of history books, including Scotland and the Commonwealth and Oliver Cromwell and the Rule of the Puritans in England.
