From USA Today bestselling author Catherine Bruns comes another tantalizingly tasty culinary mystery...
In need of some quick dough, full-time baker and sometime sleuth Sally Muccio decides to rent the vacant apartment over the bakery to a friend of her grandmother’s. Allegra Fiato is nothing like Sal’s darling Grandma Rosa, though. She’s mean, dishonest, and harboring a deadly secret.
When the elderly woman is mowed down in a hit and run, it quickly becomes obvious this was no accident. Grandma Rosa asks for Sal’s help to find the killer which involves a last minute trip to Vegas crashed by Sal’s crazy parents, stolen fortune cookies, and a mysterious missing
locket. To add more spice to the mix, a loved one makes a startling admission to Sal that shocks her to the very core. Suddenly, Sal’s world is in danger of crumbling around her. Can she put the pieces back together in time before the killer makes her the next victim?

This fun and easy to read story was hard for me to put down. The plot flows and so do the laughs. Sal's Grandma Rosa is a hoot. The included recipes are tasty too. Catherine Bruns hit this one out of the ball park.
Good story! You will need kleenex's towatd the end!
Sally's grandmother asks her to help solve the murder of a friend. Their exciting adventure towards the truth is an entertaining read! Family, friends, love, heartache, and of course, fortune cookies!
In this book, the 6th in the Cookies and Chance series, we find Sally one year into a happy marriage and still working side by side with her best friend Josie. Things would be nearly perfect is Sally hadn't made the bad decision to rent the shop's upstairs apartment to Allegra Fiato, who is now trying to run her out of business. When Allegra is killed right outside the shop, Sally and Josie feel compelled to play detective (along with Sally's lovable grandmother). There is hilarity, there is danger, and there is personal drama as well. If you've never read a Cookies and Chance mystery there's no reason why you can't start here, but I recommend starting at the beginning and getting to know everyone first. You will love them.
Crumbled To Pieces is a great mystery set in Colwestern, New York. Bakery shop owner, Sally Donovan and her best friend, Josie Sullivan, have some delicious sounding treats. Their mistake was renting out the upstairs apartment to Sally's grandmother Rosa's friend, Allegro, to open a candy shop in the apartment. However, Allegro turns out to be a royal pain. Not only does she complain about everything, she stole fortune cookies from the bakery, and Josie's recipes. She even used their oven to bake. She was stealing their customers and running her own bakery with help from her friend, Nicoletta, another of Rosa's friends. When Sally and Josie confront Allegro and tell her she has to leave, she ran out of the bakery and into the street where was hit and killed by a driver who didn't stop. Sally and Josie feel very bad that they might have contributed to the event but it becomes apparent that it was murder. Nicoletta, is upset about Allegro's death and wants the sleuths (sloths, according to Rosa) to find the killer so they agree for Rosa's sake. There are lots of possible suspects who might want Allegro dead. She wasn't cared for by her own children and certainly wasn't a nice person but she didn't deserve to die that way. This is a great mystery that involves some unraveling and investigating to find out who wanted Allegro dead. Did Allegro know someone's secret? Was it just out of hate? Look for quirky, eccentric characters and some strange family dynamics filled with envy and greed. This is the first in the series that I have read and I may go back and read some of the others. It sounds like Sally has had some close calls with bodies and murderers. I look forward to the next book where there may be some new family members in Sally's family. I received a complimentary ARC from the publisher for an honest review. The thoughts and opinions stated are mine only.
Another excellent bakery murder mystery with amateur sleuths. Many suspects keep you turning the pages to see who is guilty. An added bonus is cookie recipes at the end.
Renting out an apartment over a bakery would seem a logical move for a landlord, but in this case, it is cause for calamity for Sal. With the death of her tenant, Sal is asked by her Grandmother to investigate and find the motive and thereby the killer. This involves a whirlwind trip to Vegas with the grandmas and an enlightening adventure it was! You will thoroughly enjoy these latest adventures!
