QUIZ: Are You a Curly Girl?

If spring is not just in the air, but in your hair, you might be a curly girl. Just take the following quiz, and find out if the Curly Girl: The Handbook holds the secrets to your future hair success.

1. Do you often wear your hair tied back in a ponytail?

2. Does your hair develop volume in humid, hot, or wet weather?

3. Does your hair make you feel out of control?

4. Do you find yourself crying after every haircut?

5. Look at old photographs and recall how you felt about your hair—and yourself—on the day the picture was taken. Was there a strong correlation between your hair and your mood?

6. Do you almost always have a haze of frizz around your head?

7. Do you blow-dry your hair so often that its texture is as dry and brittle as a piece of melba toast?

8. Does your budget for products to straighten or relax your hair exceed your annual tax-deductible contributions to charity?

9. Do you live in fear of humidity, sweating, spontaneous sex, a shower with your lover—or any weather or activity that might unmask you as a curly girl?

10. Are you almost always unhappy with your hair?

11. Do you worry about your hair before any big occasion, like a wedding or an important business meeting?

If you answered yes to one or more questions, congratulations! You know who you are. You're a curly girl waiting to happen. Your hair is bristling with movement longing to break free, waves aching to curl, frizz begging for direction.

The girl on the cover is what convinced me to buy this book; I figured that anyone who could make natural curls look that good was worth a shot. Definitely a good investment! This book breaks down different curl types and how to care for them, including a section on how to trim your own hair (for every curly girl who's hair has been chopped, razored and sliced by ordinary hairdressers). Though the system feels unnatural at first (no hair brushes, only washing your scalp with sulfate free shampoo, no straightening) I promise you that your hair will be gorgeous! Within a few weeks, you will see a total trasformation. The author even worked with chemists to create her own brand of curl-friendly hair products, but she still explains how to select your own products from a typical store. Well researched and well worth your while.

I have curly hair and have worn my hair in every style, except in it's natural curly state. This summer was so hot that I was forced to give in. There was no way that flat ironing would last even 30 minutes in the heat and humidity. I purchased the book to get tips on how to care for my curls and I am so happy that I did. There are beautiful pictures and videos that can be viewed with the Color Nook. There are also detailed descriptions and recipes for easy to make products for the hair. This book is a recommended read and an essential go-to guide for all curly girls.

I really like this book. As a mother of two daughters I have had to learn to care for three different hair textures. There is something for everyone in this book. I have noticed a huge difference in softness and managebility of my hair. My hair texure is 4B-4C natural without any chemicals(relaxers, texturizers). I also like the videos included in the enhanced version. There a demonstration via video that shows you exactly how to care for every hair type. A must have for all curlies and transitioning curlies.

Curly Girl is the best information book you will find to take care of curly hair. We grow up thinking its a curse but with all the recommendations and easy remedies, your curls will become beautiful and the envy of all who want them. An extremely easy to use resource. Wish I had it thirty years ago when I was in high school. This is the best information around with all kinds of easy homemade tonics to remedy the frizz that curly hair often encounters with the weather. Every curly haired individual man or woman, young or old should have one of these books at home or give it to a friend as a gift.

As an African-American woman, I have been CG now for one month and the advice from this book has been very helpful. I am definitely a believer of the cowash and would encourage anyone, even if you are still unsure, just try it. You can tweak some things to make it work for your hair and that was one of the many things that I liked. The process is simple and it is fun to try the many different sulfate-free, silicone-free natural products. She provides information about what ingredients to look out for and she even gives great homeade recipe ideas to go along with your own personal regimen. There is also a ton of support on Google from other curly girls so it's worth it, in my opinion. I just started the method on my five-year-old about a week ago. I'm excited to see the changes in the health of her hair.

Barnes and Noble should explicitly say enhanced ebooks are only for their new nooks. I wasted money on a book I can not even read on my laptop

This book has changed my life. I used to hate my curly hair always wanting it straight until I damaged my hair to much from flatirons and decided that I had to leave it alone. That was 2yrs but was still using bad products on my hair. In January 2013 I decided to get wash and set and it damaged my hair so bad and the cut was horrible after it was washed. I heard of this book from someone on you tube and decided that I was going to make a change and it started with my hair. Now I exercise, take the vitamins I'm supose to take, and eat the right thing. I don't do everything in the book but I do 95% of it. So if your ready to go curly this book will get you started

OMG. This book is the best thing since slice bread. I have spent my whole life being told I have ugly hair. I finally feel like there is hope for me and now for the first time in my 48 years, people are telling me how beautiful my hair is. Thank you Curly Girl!

I wish I had this book 10 years ago. It is amazing, the detail and pictures and the videos. If you are a curly girl, black, white, brown, or anything in between or mixed in together. BUY THIS BOOK! There is no substitute for this kind of information and affirmation to a naturally curly hair woman (or man).

This book is just enlightening! I have had extremely curly hair my whole life, and have had trouble keeping it nice. This book gave me the tools I need to have phenomenal hair and not only it tells you what to do and what not to do, it also tells you why. It is one of those books that I will be going back to when I have questions about my crazy curly hair!

I get a lot of compliments on my curls, thanks in large part to some of the tips I learned from this book. A must-read if you have curly hair... You won't use all the tips, but you're bound to find one or two that are helpful.

If you are even vaguely curly, there¿s a lot to like about this book. It¿s put together in a chatty, informational way, with testimonials from women who¿ve learned to love their curls, after a lifetime of trying to tame them. Massey is a curly girl herself, who¿s done the research to find the best way of caring for it, and there are some surprising recommendations. Most curly girls can skip shampoo, cleansing their hair through scalp massage with conditioner. Brushes are out, too. Massey¿s tips and techniques are going to take some practice, and getting used to, but I¿m already loving the increased curl and definition in my hair, as well as the ideas on putting it up and tying it back.
