Dane's Law

Colorado Territory is in the midst of a struggle for statehood in 1876; at the same time
the United States is in the midst of a Presidential Election. It would prove to be perhaps
the most corrupt election in U.S. history. Some newspapers made jest of the new President
Elect, calling the President Elect "Rutherfraud" B. Hayes. Politics has always made strange
bedfellows and few partnerships could be stranger than that of the ex-butcher from the mean
streets of Chicago, Dane Larsen, and the aging Cheyenne Dog Soldier, Red Elk, a member of the
Reservation Police.

Dane Larsen is the son of immigrants. Born in Chicago, and raised near the Union Stockyards,
as a toddler he was entertained by tales of Vikings and reivers. The tales of raiding Vikings
paint a picture of a life far more exciting than following in his father's footsteps working as
a butcher for the meat-packing industry. Drifting west to escape the killing floor, he discovers
a new type of killing floor in the wide open spaces. As a bounty hunter, Dane Larsen brought
fugitives to justice. And, on occasion, he brought back the bodies of those that objected to
being taken to jail. His chosen profession didn't win many close friends. More than one of men
sent to prison vowed revenge on the big man. However, the bounty hunter has a quick temper and a
Sharps Big .50. Anyone gunning for Dane Larsen better not miss.

No longer believing the Cheyenne can stem the rising tide of settlers that invaded their traditional
homeland, Red Elk merely wants his people to be able to survive the flood. Investigating the murder of
his cousin, he discovers a plot indicating that his people are going to be sacrificed for political gain
in the upcoming territorial election. Red Elk fears that a renegade, called Morning Kills, is about to
embark on a blood-letting campaign against the whites that will draw the Cheyenne people into a war; a war
they may not survive. The one-time Dog Soldier turned policeman must ride to find justice for his cousin
and prevent a war that would decimate his people.

Dane's Law is a story that invites you to ride along with the butcher-turned-bounty-hunter, Ivarr "Dane"
Larsen and the Cheyenne warrior, Red Elk , as they join forces to try to unravel the riddle of why someone
wants Dane Larsen dead, and who stands to benefit by creating an all-out war between the Cheyenne and the
citizens of the Territory!

About the Author

I was born in rural Southeast Missouri in the middle of the last century.
Turning eighteen, Uncle Sam provided a job for me. The GI Bill turned out to
be my ticket to a college degree, allowing me to make a career out of
programming computers. Developing software--a career focused on technology,
was challenging. Now I am retired, and I write books instead of programs.

My wife and I lived in Palm Beach County for twenty years, where a walk
on the beach could turn up sea shells, shark teeth, bits of coral and odd
bits of flotsam. Now we live in Tennessee, where we enjoy the changing seasons!
