A medical thriller with fangs This is rather an unusual crossover in terms of genre, being a medical thriller along the lines of Robin Cook, but with vampires thrown in. I can’t stand Robin Cook and medical thrillers in general but I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It’s well written and nicely paced. I love the vampire world Lana Campbell created. It’s rich, fun and we learn about it as the story unfolds, so as a reader you kind of slide into it. I liked Tiffany and Christian as well. They’re real people, with their little quirks and irritations. If you’re looking for trope, you won’t find them here! As I said, medical thrillers aren’t my thing and so I skipped the bits that were devoted to injections, discussions of blood etc. However, I suspect fans of the genre will love those beautifully written details. As a side comment, I can see Dark Experiments translating very easily into a film or television show. In some ways it reads like a John Grissom book where the author has set it out so it will be a snap to adapt to a shooting script. If you’re looking for a good read, I’d recommend this. Also, while it’s the second story in a series, it reads brilliantly as a standalone. You need not worry about picking this up and ending with a cliffhanger or other loose ends. Def recommended. PS I met the author briefly on MeWe and she sent me her novel. I’m reviewing voluntarily.
This is a sit on the edge of your seat kind of book. Dark Experiments is book 2 in the Forever and a Night Series by Lana Campbell. This mystery and romance is one intense book and I loved every minute of it!! Defiantly a page turner. Though in a series you can read this as a standalone but recommend you read Forever In A Night, book 1. I am new to the PRN books and mostly read historical romances but when I was given this book I though “what the heck I’ll read it”. I am so very happy that I did. Lana has the most wonderful characters that you even love a sarcastic, no nonsense, smart mouth geek and oh what a storyline. It is one of the most creative stories that I have read in a very long time. This story has murders, poisonings, vampire turnings, evil, compassion, family love, mistrust, an anger from the past, abduction, doctors, protection, madness and a love of a best friend. Yes…this has it all and I highly recommend you read this book. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!! KUDOs Lana Campbell! ***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Reviewed by Divine Zape for Readers' Favorite A romance with a paranormal edge, Dark Experiments by Lana Campbell is a mesmerizing read with strong and unusual characters. This is a story with great twists and a strong appeal for fans of vampire tales. Tiffany is wary of guys, but there is one that she desires with every ounce of strength in her: Christian. When Christian offers her the job as the IT specialist in his V clinic, she seizes the opportunity and opens up to explore her fantasies. A steamy moment of sex with him brings her alive in ways she’d never imagined. But then, Christian is a vampire and she can’t stay with him; he could destroy his life. What follows is an intricate plot that will find her becoming a vampire against her will and going through the darkest experiences with the Angel of Death, who kidnaps her. Will Christian be quick enough to rescue her before her annihilation? Since Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, readers have been fascinated with the concept of romance between vampires and humans, but Lana Campbell’s novel introduces new elements into the genre. Besides the exciting love story, this novel features a gripping conflict and characters who are emotionally strong, well-developed, and psychologically attractive. The plot is wonderfully constructed and it contains surprises that give readers the “wow” effect. Dark Experiments is a finely composed paranormal romance with characters that readers will quickly become fond of. I couldn’t stop reading from the moment I began the first page. It is totally absorbing.
