Overview

Dark Moon (Firebringer Trilogy Series #2) by Meredith Ann Pierce

Volume Two of the Firebringer Trilogy

He was the youngest prince the unicorns had ever known: Aljan son-of-Korr, Dark Moon. A silver crescent on his brow and a white star on his heel were tokens that one day he was destined to become the legendary Firebringer—but Jan had no knowledge of fire, nor of where to find it.

Swept out to sea while defending the unicorns, Jan is washed up on a distant shore, only to find himself the revered captive of a strange race of two-foots who treat him with awe, even as they hold him against his will. It is here that he witnesses the magic of fire for the first time and, even more importantly, discovers how he himself can create it. But can he escape and bring the knowledge back to the unicorns in time to same them?

“Carefully plotted, with satisfying action and fully developed, intriguing characters, this is sure to please fantasy lovers.”—Booklist

Dark Moon is a thrilling sequel to Birth of the Firebringer by Meredith Ann Pierce. Aljan (Jan) has just become Prince of the unicorns, but he is very overwhelmed. For he is his people¿s prophesied Firebringer, born to drive the hated wyverns out of the unicorn¿s homeland on the Plain, but he knows nothing of fire. To make matters worse at the Summer Seas, where he pledged his heart to his new mate Tek, gryphons attacked and Jan was washed away by the sea. He awoke later on a distant shore and is almost immediately mistaken for the Twoleg¿s god. He is then worshiped while imprisoned, but he is not the only thing the Twolegs hold. They also hold the power of fire! But can Jan figure out how to use this fire to his advantage? And can he escape in time to save his mate and see his newborn colts? Find out in Dark Moon!

This book is wonderful. It's not quite as good as the first to me because he forgets almost everything including who he is and what he is to his herd. But just in time to save himself and one other, he remembers and escapes from the twolegs to return to his home. I read tons of books but these realllllllllllyyyyyy stand OUT!

A very good book, though not the best in the series. Jan continues his adventures, after creating a life long bond he cherishes. A wonderful book, through also sad.
