Overview

Jane Yellowrock used to hunt vampires, but now she must fight--and win--beside them.

As Enforcer to the vampire Master of the City of New Orleans, Jane Yellowrock stakes her reputation and her life on keeping her territory safe. But Leo has been issued a blood challenge by the emperor of the European vampires, who seeks to usurp all of his power and possessions. If Leo loses the match to the death, the city will be forfeit, and the people of New Orleans will suffer the consequences. Jane can't let that happen.

Preparing for the duel requires all of Jane's focus, but with so much supernatural power in play, nothing goes according to plan. She has to rely on herself and the very few people she knows she can trust to stand and fight. Only two things are guaranteed: nothing is sacred, and no one is safe.

Another book I could not put down. Fast paced and tied up so many story lines I was afraid this was the last....sincerely hope not, I am still addicted to these characters.

Wow. Just wow! This book was sooo good. I did not want it too end. There were characters I did not much care for, and in this book made me change how I felt. I cried happy tears and sad tears. This series has come so far but so much more can be told. This author, Faith Hunter, does such an amazing job. I know I will always buy her books. I am never disappointed, Im always through the moon.

Loved it but what a cliff hanger!!! Sigh... great book, so much happened.

Could have been and almost was the culmination of the Jane Yellowrock series, one of the most original urban fantasy series with a multifaceted infuriating amazing main character & her Beast, and the word LOVE is not too strong...both my reaction and the relationship changes in this next to penultimate book. THANK YOU Faith Hunter!

Ok so I have followed this series from the beginning and it has always been fantastic but this book takes the cake. It was so action packed so many loose ends tied together, so many new ones unraveling. I laughed out loud and cried ( yes about a vampire book!). Like a fine wine, Faith' s writing just keeps getting better with time. The so called cliffhangers were not really cliffhangers to me...its just getting is ready for the next adventure which is not at all where I thought this was going. I think this was my favorite book because of all the growth the characters have gone through and who they have become. Please read this seriesfrom the beginning of the series or you'll do yourself an injustice. Some people didn't like the ending but I thought everything about it was very fitting to make it feel more real.

I've enjoyed the Jane Yellowrock series (and its spinoff, the Soulwood series), and naturally expect each new entry will be well-written with an engaging story line. Then came Dark Queen - wow. I'm blown away. Outstanding, gripping, exhausting - I need new superlatives. With her previous release, Flame in the Dark, Faith Hunter has moved to the top of my Do-Not-Miss list.

SPOILER ALERT!!! PLEASE DONR CONTINUE IF YOU HAVENT YET READ THIS BOOK!!! Omg, so angry, disappointed, sad, hurt, frustrated, and anxious about the outcome of this book. Yes, the description eluded to someone or someone’s dying but really? Leo? The hell?! I’ve spent so many years with Jane and her story that I feel this on a personal level...Jane dying? Beast not sure she wants to tell Jane? Why so dark? Such a turn that I did NOT see coming. I’m hoping this does something like the Avengers End Game and we DO turn back time, somehow. VERY anxiously awaiting the next chapter as I’m just broken right now.

Thought I had it all figured out with the appearance of a new and completely unexpected character. Boy was I wrong by a mile. Familiar and unfamiliar faces, themes, names, and ideas pop up, Jane Yellowrock is still the best vampire killer, shape shifter, magic user, friend of were animals and heavenly or other worldly beings. In this book she becomes the height of what she could be and a whole let less. There is growth in moral strength in all characters. There is fun. There is adult sex. There is completion of a long arc and the start of new discovery. A very good ride.

Just finished reading this and I loved it . This series just gets better and better . I wasn't a happy camper at the end. My heart hurts for Jane and Beast. I hope the next book won't take so long .

I want to start off my review with a bit of a question. As a reader, how do you prepare yourself for the game changing book in a series? Do you put it off? Dread it? Devour it? Any of those answers could be correct. For me, it was a mixture of both. It was clear from the last book that the proverbial crap was about to hit the fan. Jane was about to be tested far more than she had ever been before. And, I was right. Dark Queen while only a new title for Jane in the previous book took on an entirely new persona. Her already complicated life twists around, dipping and diving into depths that we could have never dreamed of. Jane is forced to make decisions she never wanted to have on her plate, and to become the one thing that she didn’t want, the Dark Queen. Blood is spilled, death dealt, and lives changed forever. This is the story that changes the series. The dark and uncertain undertones in Dark Queen are slightly softened with reminders of Jane’s relationships and her relationship with Beast. A new player on the field brings more memories of her past, and honestly, his presence didn’t make much sense to me until the end. The end. How do I even go about explaining it? The unanswered questions, and hopes for a different outcome run rampant when this story comes to a close. Hopes for survival, hope for the future, and above all, hopes for love. Hunter has truly outdone herself with this book, and it makes the long wait for the next one even more torturous than in books past.
