Overview

Dark Viking by Sandra Hill

Rita, a former stunt woman, can't believe she signed up to be a female Navy SEAL. She needed the signup money to pay her mother's medical bills.

Steven, a fierce Viking warrior, is depressed over the "death" of his brother Thorfinn. Yep, even Vikings get the blues.

Rita can't believe she's been tossed back in time to the tenth century wearing a head-to-toe wetsuit and flippers with her face cammied up.

Steven can't believe the gods have sent him a fish woman to ease his woes. Not a beautiful mermaid, but an ugly-as-death fish.

How dare the brute put her in a cage!

How dare the wench teach his people line dancing!

Love and laughter guaranteed in this trip down Memory Lane...uh Fjord.

The book is relevant to how women were treated back in that era. After taking a college course and the history of the Noregion type areas (viking were cover)the facts in the book is accurate. Don't base the book on what happened back then and what is socially unacceptable now. Very well written book and will give a couple of good giggles.

Navy SEALs Commander MacLean and Lieutenant Mendozo persuade stuntwoman Rita Sawyer to join the WEALs (Women on Earth, Air, Land and Sea) program. However, during an operation that goes terribly wrong, Rita in her wetsuit awakens inside a cage with a horde of barbarians staring at her with their mouths open. Ever since his brother Thorfinn (see Viking Unchained) vanished without a trace, Viking Lord Steven has been depressed. When his men find the unconscious female in strange garb, they assume she is a sea monster. However, Rita proves she is a strong twenty-first century woman who has no idea how she ended up in the early eleventh century. As the admiration she and Steven feel for each other grows, they begin to fall in love but though each appreciates the other's culture, a millennium makes love seem shaky. Although similar in tone to the other time traveling Viking-SEAL romantic thrillers, Dark Viking is an exhilarating tale as once again Sandra Hill uses the differences and similarities between the two cultures to tell a strong tale of love that has no time boundaries. The lead couple is a strong pairing as each uses humor with she bringing him out of his depression and he helping her customize to his era. Filled with jocularity from start to finish, fans of the saga will relish this enjoyable entry. Harriet Klausner

Disappointed in the plot and characters. The plot lacked imagination and the characters were poorly developed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!  It kept me very entertained and at times laughing out loud.  Ms. Hill certainly has a way with words and puns.  I highly recommend reading her books and hope that she will continue writing about her Vikings.  I'm looking forward to the next book in her series.  Keep up the good work!
