cozy-mystery, maine, cats, paranormal, ghosts, romantic A lovely story about a town with magic, especially Zoe's aunt Sapphire who lives in a retired lighthouse with ten interesting cats and a ghost who can talk and interact but falls right through chair seats. A meteorologist in LA, Zoe drops everything and flies back home after a phone call from the hospital advising her that Sapphire has a head injury from a fall. Turns out that the fall was caused by surprise at finding intruders in her home. Lots more, but you really have to read it to appreciate it! B. J. Harrison is the marvelous narrator!

First book by Jana Deleon that I didn't like, read half and finally gave up. Very boring and no humor as everyone posted.

I've never been disappointed in a book by Jana Deleon and this was no exception. A great introduction to Everlasting and it's inhabitants. If you haven't already, be sure to check out Ms. Deleon's series for some laugh out loud fun.

This was a good quick read. It sets the tone for the new Everlasting series. Fun characters and a decent mystery. I look forward to reading more in this series.

LOL I love the title, very apt. This is a cute mystery story that takes place in Everlasting, Maine. A town where paranormals live and the town is magic. Sapphire is a little spry old lady who lives in the lighthouse with a ghost and 10 cats. She jokingly calls herself a borderline ‘crazy cat lady’ except she’s not crazy and she can talk to the cats and they understand her. When she is hospitalized with a concussion from a fall, her niece, Zoe, comes to take care of her. Zoe is up for a promotion as a meteorologist in LA but feels she needs to take care of her aunt till she can live alone again. Then she discovers Cornelius, the ghost who lives in the lighthouse with Sapphire and discovers her aunt’s fall was no accident and the intruders were looking for a magical emerald. The story is fast paced and interesting.

Magic Emerald, 10 cats, remodeling, crazy weather and a ghost, what? Dead Man Talking is the first book in the Happily Everlasting Series written by four authors, Jana Deleon, Mandy M. Roth, Michelle M. Pillow and Kristen Painter. The stories take place in Everlasting, Maine a small town along the coast, “where there’s no such thing as normal.” I love this book, it is the first book that I have read by Jana Deleon. I found it well written with mystery, paranormal, and a little romance all perfectly balance. Everlasting, Maine sounds like a very interesting place to live. The town is inhabited by many great characters, some grumpy, some eccentric, some who believe in magic and some who don’t. It is an old fishing village with that small town flavor and lots of local humor. There is also a little mysterious side to the town. Zoe is a meteorologist/TV weather person in Los Angeles, California, who grew up in Everlasting. Zoe couldn’t wait to get out of Everlasting as a kid. She doesn’t believe in magic but her Aunt Sapphire does believe in magic and has for her entire life. Sapphire isn’t your average magic loving crazy cat lady. So, when she is hurt Zoe makes it her business to find out what happened to her beloved aunt. I like Zoe’s morals and that she isn’t willing to compromise them for any reason. I really liked her interactions with her aunt and the love between them. Then there is Dane. He and Zoe had a relationship before she left town. He is a contractor with a touch of interior decorator now. He is loyal, handsome and friendly. Dane having always lived in Everlasting has some really great retired fishermen friends who are like town gossips hanging out at the local pool hall. Dane isn’t a believer of magic or the town lore either, but he likes Sapphire and may still have feelings for Zoe. Dane and Zoe make a good couple if they can just figure it out. My favorite supporting character is Mary Jo, the Texas transplant. She is this cheery, super friendly nurse, who understands that hospital food sucks and visiting hours don’t always work out for everyone. She is really helpful and notices things like family resemblance. Mary Jo seemed to know her nursing stuff too. If I had to be hospitalized I would hope for a nurse like her. There are some funny parts of this town, like the Deputy Months, Cornelius, and some very well trained cats. I won’t go into detail as I don’t want to ruin the story for you. My rating is 5 stars, I highly recommend this book. I am starting Once Haunted, Twice Shy by Mandy M. Roth which is the second book in the series. I really hope it is just as good as this one. This was a great introduction to the amazing town of Everlasting. I really liked the characters and the mystery. My only complaint would be that it wasn't long enough. To me, it needed a little extra to fully develop the characters and their complexities. I can't wait to read more about Everlasting.

It was witty and well written. I read this book because one of my favorite authors wrote a companion book in this series. I am always looking for new authors and I am very excited about this new find. I can’t wait to read more, both in the series and from this author.

A little predictable, but overall very enjoyable. Cozy, paranormal mystery with just a hint of romance.

I LOVED this book! Jana can always write a good tale. I laughed so hard I cried. If nothing else, read it for the cats. Plus the ghost with no pants. The characters are all so well written. It was bittersweet for it to end because I already miss the people and the magic. I hope we get another book from her set in Everlasting

What’s wrong with a little magic? 5 MAGIC STONES So is anyone going to tell me the story? Come on! It will be an adventure. Another glorious day in Everlasting. Live Woman Reading! *snicker* Good Lord Almighty. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much while reading a book! Of course, this is my first time reading a cozy paranormal mystery and also my first Jana DeLeon book as well, but still! I love, Love, LOVE every word of it! So many witty, sarcastic, humorous & outright hilarious lines & phrases! Add in the terrific storylines, eloquent storytelling, family, friends, hot exes, weirdness, potty-trained cats, romance & one mysterious mystery all coming perfectly together, making this one helluva fantastically written & well-rounded book that I couldn't put down! I literally read it all in one sitting! The "complex" characters are highly entertaining, loveable, but cooky, quirky Sapphire is downright adorable! She cracks me right up! I wish I had a great-aunt/aunt/grandma like her. Of course I also wish I had a Dane in my life too, but for a whole other reason! wink I am excited to read the rest of this series, and even more excited to get my hands on more of Jana’s books!!! Her incredible way with words, the ability to capture me from the very beginning and not only keep me entertained, but laughing, gasping, holding my breath, rooting for the good “guys”, cursing the bad, adoring the senior crowd, and wishing I could live in Everlasting, Maine in a beautifully awesome lighthouse, proves that Jana’s got game! Errrr… I mean talent! Jana’s got talent! Puuurrrnomenal talent at that! This is truly a highly charming, funny, FANTASTIC book that will always be Happily Everlasting on my bookshelf and in my heart! Cheesy, I know, but true! Oh so true!! Everlasting proving once again that truth was stranger than fiction.
