About the Author

Elizabeth Ashby was born and raised in Danger Cove and now uses her literary talent to tell stories about the town she knows and loves. Ms. Ashby has penned several Danger Cove Mysteries, which are published by Gemma Halliday Publishing. While she does admit to taking some poetic license in her storytelling, she loves to incorporate the real people and places of her hometown into her stories. She says anyone who visits Danger Cove is fair game for her poisoned pen, so tourists beware! When she's not writing, Ms. Ashby enjoys gardening, taking long walks along the Pacific coastline, and curling up with a hot cup of tea, her cat, Sherlock, and a thrilling novel.

Jennifer Fischetto is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the Jamie Bond Mysteries. Unbreakable Bond, her adult debut novel, has received a National Reader's Choice award nomination. She writes dead bodies for ages 13 to six-feet-under. When not writing, she enjoys reading, cooking, singing (off-key), and watching an obscene amount of TV. She also adores trees, thunderstorms, and horror movies—the scarier the better. She lives in Western Mass with her family and is currently working on her next project.

When Riley Spencer took over the Cinnamon Sugar Bakery for her Grams, she didn’t count on a murder in the mix—make that the bakery bathroom. As the police begin their investigation, Riley decides to do some sleuthing/policing of her own to save her bakery, her reputation, and her life. Jennifer Fischetto has whipped up a winner with Death by Scones. The characters are as sweet and savory as the lemon pesto muffins and the plot is as heart-stopping as the Death by Mocha brownies. I can’t wait to see what the Cinnamon Sugar bakery crew cooks up next!

cozy-mystery, danger-cove, amateur-sleuth, recipes I want to visit Danger Cove! Any of the books stand alone very easily, but reading more of them adds layers. The emphasis in this one is the bakery, the new owner, Riley, with her vintage clothes, there are recipes, and, of course, a totally unexpected murder and the investigation. Lots of twists and a few red herrings, and an assortment of romances make this one interesting read. Melissa Meshey is perfect as narrator here. She has the perky bouncy persona just right! Turns out that I had an ebook copy hiding in my TBR pile, but won an audio!

Don't bother to get it.

1.5 stars. The characters were bland & the story so very far fetched.

I almost deleted this book about three chapters into it, but it was late and I didn't have anything else to read. I'm glad I kept on reading because it got better. The main character in the beginning seemed like such a ditz. Eventually her character got more rounded out.

This series keeps getting better and better. Nice to see characters from the other books interact with current ones. Can't wait for all other books.

The third book in the Danger Cove mysteries is well written with interesting characters. This is a good summer read and will keep you guessing until the end. Riley has just taken over ownership of the Cinnamon Sugar Bakery from her Grams when unfortunate events begin to occur in her life starting with a murder in her bakery while there are many people right on site.

I just started reading this after having read and thoroughly enjoyed "the Mystery of the Painted Lady," also in this Danger Cove series. However, after just 30 pages I have found myself annoyed at the silly & unnecessary references to the zodiac signs of various characters. The story has, nevertheless, drawn me in. It is just annoying  to be told about silly zodiacs and how they supposedly determine these characters' personalities. Just distracting.

Loved this book. Riley is very quirky and determined. The author did a great job. I really felt like I could truly envision every character and the town of Danger Cove the way the author sees it. Such a fun read. Adorable characters and a mystery that you won't see coming. Looking forward to the next in this series.

SUMMARY: Riley Spencer is owner of the Cinnamon Sugar Bakery in the small town of Danger Cove. Although she has worked at the bakery her entire life, she recently became owner! On her first day as new owner, someone sends a fake email that offers free samples from the bakery! Although she thought it was odd, she decided to hand out samples to the residents of danger cove! After all the chaos, she discovers the body of Nathan Dearborn-a very dead body! The cause of death: peanut allergy. Riley’s bakery is a nut-free zone, so she knows that Nathan death was no accident! With business dwindling because people think she is reckless, Riley is determined to figure out who poisoned Nathen with peanuts! MY THOUGHTS: This is the 3rd book as part of the danger cover series and I loved it. I am so excited about this series of murder mysteries all set in the same town and intertwine a bit. This particular mystery was quite good. I did guess the killer but only at the end, but I did not guess the motive! I liked the romance part of the book and look forward to seeing what happens to her and her beau! I recommend this book, and of course the other books in the danger cove series.

A fun who-dun-it.  Enjoyed the characters and like the way it is pulling in characters from the previous books in this series.  A little romance, a little mystery.  What's not to like?  Would recommend.

Great Series! This is a great series; This is the third book in the Danger Cove Mysteries. Each book in this series is written by a different author. I love how each author made Danger Cove into a wonderful town, but brought out each of their different styles. Riley has recently purchased the Cinnamon Sugar Bakery in the small town of Danger Cove. During the grand opening a body is found and the cause of death is caused by a peanut allergy. So the police think that Riley is a suspect since she baked everything for the grand opening. It is up to Riley and her friends to find out what really happened. If you are looking for a great mystery then you need to read this book and the other books in this series. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out.  A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

An enjoyable, light mystery. I immediately liked the characters, especially Riley, our vintage-clothes wearing baker. The recipes look great. I definitely plan to make the Death by Mocha Brownies. I am enjoying the idea of the Danger Cove series of connected novels by different authors. I have read and enjoyed the other books, but new readers can jump in with this one without any spoilers. I am looking forward to the next in this series with these characters.

Danger Cove has another winner in Death by Scones; I really loved this one, too! I love the idea of a series of interconnected series, lol. Death by Scone is a fast paced mystery with an intriguing and complex plot and a support system for Riley that I love.  While I do enjoy a good thriller sometimes, it is the character driven stories that good cozy mysteries present that draw me back time and again and the author in this Gemma Halliday Publishing project do just that. When her first day as owner of Cinnamon Bakery (check the make) brings an unwanted surprise in the form of an emailed special invitation to free goodies at the Grand Reopening of the baker, Riley thinks that things couldn’t get any worse. She shifts into gear and addresses that problem only to be faced with a dead body in her bathroom,  the body of a local recluse who has obviously died from a reaction to nuts.  The problem with that is the bakery has been a nut free zone since an early incident many years ago.  To Riley, that spells murder, but the police see it as an accident, but Riley cant let it go. Her snooping opens more than one can of worms, possibly affecting how she has viewed her whole life and definitely affecting her present and her future.  I am looking forward to more books in this series.

It is amazing how the authors can come up with another of these interesting books. The plot involves man with allergy being given scones made with peanut oil that was first thought an accident but proved to be murder. Heroin of story owns the bakery and works to find killer. Keeps the reader wondering “who done it” up the the surprising ending. A good recipe after many of the chapters is a bonus for those that can cook
