Overview

He was looking for an A.W.O.L. elf, not a date with the kitten foster-mom who was one of his suspects.

Somebody messed up and let a prototype escape from North Pole Unlimited's top secret Toys-and-Research division. Now P.I. Decker Harkness has the contract to track it down. He's not exactly sure what E.L.V.I.S does, but he's hot on the trail.

Joy McCall has her hands full of foster animals and pet treats at Kitten Caboodle, but she's not too busy to notice strange goings-on at the pet shelter where she works.

When their paths cross during a triple kitten-napping, Decker and Joy will have to work together to close their cases. Will everyone make it home to celebrate a merry Christmas together? Only Santa knows.

North Pole Unlimited Romances:

  1. Decker and Joy
  2. Hollis and Ivy
  3. Nick and Eve
  4. Rudy and Kris

This is a good short-story (90+ pages). The premise is a nice twist on the legend of Santa and the North Pole. The pacing is consistent. The dialogue is realistic. The characters, including the critters, have depth and charm. The story is a romance (nothing graphic) with a hint of mystery. Even though the mystery is simple, the charm of the story, and the high quality of the writing kept my interest. Though the story is sweet, it manages to be so without being cloying. I will look for other books in the series.

Decker and Joy are two of the nicest characters I've read in some time. They're not quite opposites, but their differences make them a good match. This author was able to make them expressive without foul language, a huge plus. There's some mystery, some romance and a few laugh aloud moments. A thoroughly fun story. I highly recommend this one.

I really liked this mysterious romance. It's got great characters and some cute kittens. What's not to like? I was amused when the P.I. who was looking for the missing prototype thought it wouldn't be hard to find. Turned out to be much harder than he expected. Especially once he met Joy at Kitten Caboodle. She was a bit of a distraction but helped him in his investigation. Well, she was really just trying to find the stolen kittens. If you like quick mysteries with romance, I recommend this holiday story.

It seemed like the story was just starting when it ended. The ending was rushed through, telling you what happened quickly almost in bullet points. Other than that it was a cute, short story which is enjoyable.

Reads like a dragnet narration, where the PI solves 3 cringes at the same time... And wins the girl, too!
