Deep Harbor (Northern Lights Series #2) by Lisa T. Bergren

The Northern Lights Series
Book Two

“Lisa Tawn Bergren has a straightforward, evocative style of writing that makes her characters breathe. They walk right across the page and straight into your heart.” –Francine Rivers, author of Redeeming Love

SOME TIES CAN NEVER BE BROKEN

As they build new lives in America, Tora, Elsa, Kaatje, and Karl each experience a personal tragedy that threatens to destroy everything they left Norway to find. Tora’s web of lies has cost her a successful future with the man she loves. When tragedy strikes, Elsa must draw upon her faith and the strength she can muster to discover who she is and the path she must follow. After her husband’s disappearance, Kaatje struggles to raise two young daughters and tend her farm, and Karl finds himself caught in a life of loneliness and emptiness. Only by placing their trust in God—and in each other—will they pass through these rough waters and find the safety of the harbor.

From the richly forested banks of the Washington Territory to the burgeoning city of Yokohama and across the turbulent, danger-filled waves of the open sea—experience the epic saga of perseverance, pain, faith, and calling in the Northern Lights series.

Deep Harbor is the second book in Lisa Bergren's Norther Lights series. I absolutely enjoyed this book! It is centered in the North West and the story is a wonderful blend of romance and historical fiction. This book is a great story on it's own but I agree with the publisher's summary...it would have been easier to understand the characters and the story line if I had read the series in order. I've added both The Captains Bride (book 1) and Midnight Sun (book 3) to my TBR pile and I can't wait to read them!

The Book: They came to America together and set out to make their own lives, but personal tragedy circumstance brings Tora, Elsa, Kaatje, and Karl back together again. Since Tora brought her tragedy on herself, and in some way harmed each of the others as well, is there anyway for them all to work together as a unit and reforge their lives? My Thoughts: I live in the Pacific Northwest and was quite anxious to read this book because I am familiar with the coastline, history and culture of the area. Deep Harbor, by Lisa Tawn Bergen did not disappoint me. This is book two in a series, but it was quite easily read as a stand alone. The characters were engaging from the very first and I couldn't quit turning the pages. This book kept me from doing the dishes and robbed me of some sleep, but it was worth it! I will definitely pick up the first book in the series and am anxious for the next one as well. I would like to thank WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for providing me with a copy of this book for review.

These characters are so life-like. They have sorrows as well as happiness. Through it all, we see the struggle of life and the reality of our savior. Read them all. Lisa does make us feel as if we personally know the people and are right beside them as they struggle and prosper.
