About the Author

Meljean was raised in the middle of the woods, and hid under her blankets at night with fairy tales, comic books, and romances. She left the forest and went on a misguided tour through the world of accounting, banking, and a (very) brief teaching career before focusing on her first loves, reading and writing--and she realized that monsters, superheroes, and happily-ever-afters are easily found between the covers, as well as under them, so she set out to make her own.Meljean lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and daughter.

Sexy and exciting! Definitely recommend it. I was fortunate enough to read an ARC of Demon Night and I thoroughly enjoyed the Guardians world. Meljean Brook creates very interesting and unique characters. Ethan, `Drifter¿, is a multi-faceted hero who feels deeply of his duty to protect Charlotte, `Charlie¿, a female who is scarred and unsure of herself, but has great inner strength revealed as the story progressed. There is great chemistry between them although neither would admit to being in love, except, maybe, to themselves. Add Charlie¿s sister, Jane, whom she deeply cares about and Sammael, a demon, who surprisingly also seems to care for Jane and things start to get very interesting and possibly dangerous for one or maybe more when a seemingly unstoppable evil creature appears. I think Meljean Brook has a vivid and wonderful imagination and `Demon Night¿ is a great example of it. Will definitely be looking forward to future stories of the Guardians. Congratulations!

Ethan McCabe takes his role as guardian of Cole¿s Hard Time Bar and Grill bartender Charlotte ¿Charlie¿ Newcomb quite seriously. So when three malevolent vampires attack her, he is outraged even as he saves her. Apparently she is not so much the target but the expendable pawn to get at her still human sister Jane, a research scientist at Legions Laboratories. Ethan believes Jane¿s demonic boyfriend is the culprit behind the assault. To keep her safe from the demons who want her for some unsavory reason, Ethan thinks Charlie should become a vampire.------------- Still although Charlie hesitates, Ethan plans to risk his long life to keep her safe for that is his job. However, deep in his soul, Ethan knows this is much more than just a job for inside his heart he knows that keeping her safe is an eternal passion of his as he loves Charlie.----------- Fans of Meljean Brooks¿ Guardians series will appreciate the latest entry, DEMON NIGHT. Ethan is terrific in his role as protector of Charlie, whom he loves, but fears telling her as she has emotional issues caused by bad relationships and her safety comes before his heart. Although it pays to read the previous entries in the Brooks realm (see DEMON MOON and DEMON ANGEL) to better understand the complexities, this is an engaging multifaceted romantic fantasy.------------ Harriet Klausner

I stuck with Meljean. Because she's local. Because she's a friend on my Twitter. Because, even though I found the first Guardian stories hard to get through at times (it's me, not you, see below), the world was utterly absorbing, and I figured it would click for me eventually. Demon Night is where it clicked. Mind you, me having trouble following things is my fault--I have a tendency to skim parts of paragraphs, and Brook is teaching me better habits. If you miss a word or two, you'll be lost, because everything she says is important (which is mighty refreshing, after skipping so many freakin' descriptions of shoes). This is the book where I became comfortable with the Guardians' world. It is a nicely consistent place, where a reader can learn the rules and anticipate complications. So many times I just have to forgive a book for getting something crosswise, but Brook always makes it work within the confines she's set up.When a human sacrifices his or her life to save another, there's a chance that human may get a visit from Michael, the Doyen, and be offered a position as a Guardian. Charged with protecting humans from demons and other beasties, but forbidden to interfere with free will, the powerful Guardians seem angelic right down to the wings, yet they are undeniably human in their frailties and conflicts. Particularly interesting is the developing partnership between the Guardians and vampires. The characters are rich, and Brook has a talent for making them distinct. She isn't writing the same hero/heroine over and over again--each voice has a distinct flavor, each character true to themselves. Demon Night's couple, Ethan and Charlie, are especially easy to empathize with. These are characters to have over for dinner.
