About the Author

LJ Cohen is the writing persona of Lisa Janice Cohen, poet, novelist, blogger, local food enthusiast, Doctor Who fan, and relentless optimist. Lisa lives just outside of Boston with her family, two dogs (only one of which actually ever listens to her) and the occasional international student. When not doing battle with a stubborn Jack Russell Terrier mix, Lisa can be found working on the next novel, which often looks a lot like daydreaming.

To be honest,I initially had a tough time following the story. It sort of meanders at first, but picks up steam, after the first 50 pages or so... Rosalen is a troubled young girl, who has been dragged all over space by her uncaring, and self centered father...she is also something of a genius computer programmer/hacker, possessing certain ethics she wasn't aware she had. When her path intertwines with a derilict, 40 year old freighter that crash landed on the asteroid her space station, the fun really begins. There are three other prime characters, and several supporting characters, to keep the flavor tasty, and frankly I ended up really enjoying the story. So much so that I've bought book 2, heh heh...

Derelict is an excellent story with well defined teen characters--each of whom have problems with their parents. Stuck on a space stations, they have few options and although at first they dislike each other, they discover they work well together and do what it takes to survive the sudden awakening of the AI in charge of the space ship they've been renovating. Great read full of action that moves right along.
