Desperate Measures is the third book in The Port Aster Secrets. I have not read the first books of the series but I was able to catch on quickly. This is a mystery that was so well written that I did not want to put it down. When I did, I could not wait to get back to it. The mystery is centered around a miracle plant. Kate's, the main character, father was directly involved in the development of this plant. There are so many twists with this story that the reader will keep guessing and will be continually surprised. There is also a Detective, Tom Parker, who is trying to solve the mystery around Kate. These two characters seem to dance around each other, so even in this the reader is continually guessing what is going to happen. The characters are well developed and believable and the descriptions throughout the book help to draw the reader into the story. This is a great book that I would encourage anyone that enjoys mysteries to read. I was given this book by Revell in exchange for my honest review.

Desperate measures by Sandra orchard is book 3 in the Port Aster series and the final book in the series. I read book one, didn’t read book two and was able to enjoy book 3. There are definitely continuations throughout each one and I would recommend reading them in order. However I enjoyed Desperate Measures without having read book two. It's such a cute relationship and dynamic between the main characters; Kate and Tom. They have good dialogue and realistic dilemmas. Kate is a researcher and the plot revolves around her finding the secret to a plants healing abilities. Tom is a Detective and has had to make some tough choices between protecting Kate who has a knack for getting into trouble and doing is job. I like that Tom's dad played a part in this book too and you get to see his character develop. As with book one there is always plenty of potential culprits. The surprise about her dad is revealed in book 2. There are also a couple other items from book one that are revealed in book 3. Kate has a neat relationship with her friend Julie and you see more of her relationship with Patty in this book. I recommend this series if you enjoy a fun romantic suspense. When I started reading this book, I didn’t realize that it was the third book in Sandra Orchard’s Port Aster Secrets series [I did not fully read the back cover content]. I kept finding myself losing track of who some of the characters were or having trouble following some of the past incidents referred to throughout the story. Finally, at some point, I noticed a reference in the back of the book to Books 1 and 2. Ahhh, I thought. Now it makes sense. While some reviewers have said that you could read this book as a standalone mystery, I’m not so sure I would agree. However, it’s an intriguing story that drew me in right from page 1. The characters are interesting and totally unpredictable. I found myself constantly changing my opinion of some of them; it was hard to decide if they were good or up to no good. I would describe Desperate Measures as a well-crafted mystery with a dash of romance and a nice blend of faith, humor, and suspense. If you like inspirational romantic whodunits, you will enjoy this book. Personally, I would suggest picking up Deadly Devotion and Blind Trust and reading those books first to fully enjoy this one.

Researcher Kate Adams cannot let anyone know that she has rescued a few specimens of the rare "miracle plant" that has caused so much turmoil across two decades and more than one continent. Sure that she can figure out just healing powers the plant has, despite knowing that people have been killed because of its existence, Kate has hidden the plants in her fruit cellar. Despite her feelings for Detective Tom Parker, she does not fully trust him and feels resentment that Tom is responsible for sweeping away her father, a person she has only seen for a few moments in twenty years. That Tom says the secret safe harbor her dad has been sent to is to protect his life does not make the separation any easier. DESPERATE MEASURES is the third and final book in Sandra Orchard's suspense series PORT ASTER SECRETS. Readers who have followed the series will be glad to finally fit all the pieces together. Like the other books, DESPERATE MEASURES moves at super speed from one danger to another. Kate's research assistant appears to be suffering from dizzy spells and the medical team suspects a possible poisoning. Was Kate the real target? Then the assistant's car is tampered with, but it is Kate that is driving. A fire threatens that Kate's secret plants will be discovered. And Detective Tom must divide his time between working on the case of a missing teenager and making sure Kate is safe. Even if books are part of a series, I can usually read one without reading the others, or can at least handle the time between publication of the earlier books and the later ones. In this case, the story that twists through the three books is so intertwined, I totally recommend reading all three books in short succession. The time frame in the story between book two and three is just a matter of weeks, but having read them more than a year apart is just too much time to carry forward that suspense. I did like that the whole jungle plant mystery and Orchard counterbalances the danger nicely with a mixture of real life, faith, simple humor, and romance. If you've never read Sandra Orchard, then grab all three books at once and enjoy. I received a copy of this title from Revell Reads for my honest opinion.

The sign of a good mystery is when you are absolutely positive you know the answer and then get to the end and say, "What . . . I never expected that!" Those were my feelings on Desperate Measures. I'm not going to say much about the story line so you won't know what the mystery was, but it was a good one. I was completely lead astray. I feel like I should apologize to several of the characters because I judged them so harshly. This series has taken a long time to wrap up (first book came out in June 2013) but it has been worth it. I enjoyed the lead character Kate Adams and found her job as a researcher to be fascinating. With the first book Deadly Devotion, I wasn't too taken with Detective Tom Parker, but he sure has grown on me. I would say that technically you could read Desperate Measures as a stand alone mystery. But why would you cheat yourself of the pleasure of the building suspense? I would recommend that you read the whole series starting with Deadly Devotion and then dive in to Blind Trust and finally rap it all up in Desperate Measures. Now that all three books are out I am completely jealous of those of you that get to read them in closer succession. I think you are in for a real treat. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

I am not a big fan of suspense novels, but when Revell Books offered me this book to review I jumped at the chance. Desperate Measures by Sandra Orchard is book 3 in the Port Aster Secrets series. I have not read the other two books, but you can be sure that I will go back and read them after reading this book. It is filled will just the right amount of suspense to keep you reading. There is the romantic tension between the heroine Kate and Detective Tom Parker. One minute she wants to strangle him and the next she's crazy about him. This is definitely a must read book, either as a stand-alone or together with the series.

Kate Adams has a knack for finding herself in the midst of police investigations. As a researcher, she's trying to discover what she can about a "miracle plant" and why a big corporation is controlling everything about it and are willing to go as far as murder to keep word from getting out about the plant. Detective Tom Parker is trying to solve the mystery surrounding Kate and the trouble she falls into while also letting the impulsive woman know he cares for her. When he finds her withholding information from him and afraid to trust, he must dig deep to uncover the answers. Desperate Measures is the third and final installment in the Port Aster Series by Sandra Orchard. Readers will find this one a special delight as the two grow and learn how much they care for each other. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 for happily-ever-afters. This is book three in Sandra Orchard’s Port Aster Secrets series.  It might be worth noting at the outset that I did not read books one and two.  In spite of my coming in rather “in the middle” (or “closer to the end,” it seems) I thought this was a good book.  The romance that began in earlier books between Kate and Tom continues, but it doesn’t do so from a place that one would be lost without knowing their history.  Orchard also brings her new readers up to speed on the mystery that has traveled throughout the series. While the mystery wasn’t necessarily gripping for me (maybe greater investment comes from reading the entire series), the characters are written well enough to draw in the reader and make us care.  In addition, Orchard creates suspense where it is lacking by leaving the reader guessing about who to trust.  Her method of telling the story in an alternating fashion between Tom and Kate makes this possible. My biggest complaint is with the romance.  Orchard writes the ups and downs in Tom and Kate’s relationship rather than making them meet, fall madly in love, and enjoy a rosy future together.  That was a good thing.  But for much of this book, Kate alternates between furious with Tom (and rightly so, given some of the things he did) and wishing they were together.  As a reader, I do understand the resolution for them it felt a bit contrived and tidier than it should have done.  Finally, there is a minor character Orchard dropped completely.  He has a history in Port Aster—one that may have been included in the other books but I was able to easily piece it together—and I wish I knew more about his future. I received this book free from Revell through the Revell Reads Blog Tour Program in exchange for my honest review.  The views I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive response.

Desperate Measures is a thrilling novel with several twists and turns along the way. This novel is the third in the Port Aster series, yet I was easily able to follow the story line without reading the two prior novels. The characters were interesting and relatable; it was easy to find myself in their shoes as I continued reading the novel. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Kate and Tom unfold as the novel went on. Kate’s love for her father was inspiring. Even though her father had put her through a lot, she still loved him and fought to be able to see him again. Desperate Measures deals with themes of love, trust, and faith in God. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.  It was a joy to read and kept me interested throughout the entire length of the novel. Thank you to Revell Publishers for a free copy of Desperate Measures in exchange for my honest review.  No monetary compensation was received and all views expressed are my own.

Danger abounds for Kate & Tom... A thrilling conclusion to a great suspense series! I have been looking forward to Desperate Measures since I turned the last page of Blind Trust, the hardest part was WAITING for it to come out. Just when I thought I had figured out exactly who was guilty and who was innocent Sandra Orchard would throw me another curveball. There were more twists and turns in this book than in a Chutes & Ladders game! I really got into the story and sometimes just wanted to shake some sense in Kate and Tom. They kept hiding things from each other and I just wanted to yell “No, no, you need to talk to each other!” The characters felt like friends and I was sorry to say goodbye to them when I turned that last page. I can't wait to see what Sandra Orchard will be working on next. Desperate Measures is an enjoyable read for any fan of Christian romantic suspense and is a must read for this summer! (I received a copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.)

This was an amazing and awesome read. The suspense started from page one and did not let up. The writing was excellent and the characters really walked off the page. Speaking of characters, I really liked Tom. He was such a standup guy and was so in love with Kate. Kate has a really hard time trusting and sometimes it was a frustrating part of her character. Especially since Tom was the one she tried the hardest not to trust. However, when it was all said and done he was the only one she knew she could trust. This is a third in the series and the first one I have read, both by author Sandra Orchard and in the Port Aster series. Ms. Orchard’s writing was such that I was able to read the last book in the series and not be lost. With that being said though, I am going to go back to read the first two and see what I have missed and I would like to see from the beginning the characters development and how the relationships evolved. I thank Revell Publishing for sending me a copy for an honest review. The opinions are my own and I look forward to reading more by Sandra Orchard.

Desperate Measures is the third and final book in the Port Aster Secrets series. I have enjoyed all three books, but I think that this one was my favorite. I felt that the story lines that flowed through all the books were tied up very nicely in this novel. Once again, Kate Adams is unsure about who can be trusted. Leaning more on herself than on God or the man who loves her, Kate finds herself in some scary situations. The author really did a great job of keeping me guessing. I didn’t know who Kate should trust either! I really enjoyed the growing romance between Kate Adams and Detective Tom Parker. Their relationship has evolved throughout the three books. It has hit rough patches and that is pretty much where they are at when Desperate Measures begins. I really liked Tom. Watching him persevere and seeing his dedication to Kate in these books was great! This was a fun series. I definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy romantic suspense. My thanks to Revell for the complimentary copy of this book that I received in exchange for an honest review.

The third and final installment of the Port Aster Secrets series is just as gripping and exciting as the first two. I really loved how Sandra Orchard concluded all of the twists and turns from the first two books in a nice and tidy story. I was guessing at who the bad guys were and who the good guys were until the very end.  I really enjoyed watching Kate and Tom fall in love throughout the series. Their romance was rocky, but sweet all the same. His protectiveness over her warmed my soul. Her reticence towards him was understandable, but you couldn't deny her feelings, even if she did. With a whole host of bad guys and good guys, this story is not lacking for character excitement. Both Kate and Tom had to learn to trust that God doesn't always answer our prayers with a "yes" and that's ok. Sometimes, He has other plans for us, better plans, and they are even more than what we were asking for. Overall, I'm very pleased with the conclusion of this book. It had me turning as quickly as I could until the very end.  *I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through the Revell Reads blogging program in exchange for my honest review.*

This was the third book in The Port Aster Secrets series.  I enjoyed the story and recommend that you read the first two in the series to really have a good understanding of what is happening throughout the book.  I have read the others and was confused a few times as to what was happening but then I would get caught up.  This one had some romance and a bit of suspense.  It kept me wondering as to who was really guilty.  I received this through Revell Reads for a fair and honest opinion.  Keep more like this coming.

Desperate Measures is an exciting conclusion to an exciting series! This is the third and final book in the Port Aster Secrets series, and I definitely recommend reading the first two books, Deadly Devotion and Blind Trust, prior to reading this one. The drama, intrigue, and romance are ongoing through this series and continue to build with each novel. While lingering questions were answered, Desperate Measures continued to surprise me with its twists and turns. I have really enjoyed the characters in this series, as well as the unique plots. The research and use of plants and herbal medicine was very interesting! Sandra Orchard writes with depth and detail, and I appreciate her complex story lines that keep me turning the pages. I enjoyed this great series and look forward to more stories from this talented author! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate the opportunity to read this story and share my honest opinion.

The third and final book in Sandra Orchard's "Port Aster Secrets" series, is Desperate Measures. The first book in the series is Deadly Devotions (read my review here) and the second book in the series is Blind Trust (read my review here). This is definitely a series that you need to read in sequence.  The entire series is based around a 'miracle plant' that people are turning up dead over. From book one through book three the reader is pulled into a web of deception and secrets. Ms. Orchard has a talent of taking the reader on a journey of twists and turns allowing them to encounter surprises along the way. Once again we meet Researcher Kate Adams who is trying to find her father, who she hasn't seen in twenty years, and find out more about the 'miracle plant' amendoso. But there are people who want the plant for themselves and they will do anything to get it. Even kill. The romance aspect of this book is between Kate Adams and Detective Tom Parker. Throughout the first two books it's been touch and go and now that we find ourselves with the final offering in the series the question is, will Ms. Orchard allow their relationship to move forward or will they part as good friends? As sad as it is that this is the last book in the series, Ms. Orchard tied the story lines up quite nicely. I would highly recommend this book (and this series) to anyone who enjoys a good clean suspense novel. On a 5-Star scale = 5 Big Stars!!!!! I would like to thank Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, for my copy of Desperate Measures. I received my copy for free in order to read it and give my honest review, which I have done.

Received Desperate Measures, the third in the Port Aster Series by Sandra Orchard on Friday and couldn't wait to start reading. This is an exciting series starring Kate Adams, botanist and part time crime solver and the man of her dreams, Tom Parker, whom betrayed her and whom she thinks she wants nothing to do with. The story opens with Kate taking care of her plants, the infamous amendoso plants that had taken her father from her once more. She hopes that no one discovers this well hidden greenhouse in her fruit cellar. What is so special about these plants that GPC would do anything to get their hands on them? She can't help but think of the series events that have brought her to this place, and feeling abandoned by God. Why did he bring her dad back into her life, only to take him away almost immediately? Why had dear, sweet, God living Daisy have to be murdered? Why would a pharmaceutical company burn down a remote village in Columbia for the plant? Patti, Kate's assistant in the lab shows up ready to help Kate paint, but then falls down the stairs breaking her leg, and the mystery begins. Had she really been going to turn off the light as she stated or was she in fact sneaking around to see what was in the basement, and had she found anything before the fall? And if she was snooping, to whom would she be reporting? Is her cohort the mayor's son? What do an abandoned property, a missing teen and a beady eyed 'bad guy' have to do with each other? And whom can Kate trust? Whom is poisoning Patti? And is it really Patti or was it intended for Kate? At times they each look so guilty, and their actions add to her suspicions. At other times, she seems so far off the mark. Can she trust Tom Parker? She is drawn to him, but so afraid to trust him. Pick this book up today and you won't be able to put it down. I had started it early evening planning to read only a few chapters, but could not put it down so read into the early morning hours, until I had finished it. You've been warned. It is that good. Try it today for yourself and see if you don't agree. Bonus: Sandra Orchard is a Canadian author and I for one love to read authors from my country. Thank you Sandra Orchard and Revell books for the opportunity to read this book. Loved the series. Can't wait to see what you bring out next.

Sandra Orchard in her new book, “Desperate Measures” Book Three in the Port Aster Secrets series published by Revell gives us another adventure with Kate Adams and Tom Parker. From the Back Cover: Kate won’t be safe until all of Port Aster’s secrets are revealed Researcher Kate Adams has finally pinpointed the supposed “miracle plant” that tore apart her family years ago. She’s certain that discovering its secrets is her only hope of solving the mystery surrounding her father’s disappearance. She’s willing to risk anything to find the truth, including her relationship with Detective Tom Parker. But with so many people in pursuit of the plant, going it alone might be a fatal mistake. Award-winning author Sandra Orchard pulls out all the stops in this breakneck and breathtaking conclusion to the Port Aster Secrets series. Detective Tom Parker and Researcher Kate Adams have a budding relationship and the last thing they need to do is keep secrets from each other however. There are a lot of secrets in the town of Port Aster except for “The Plant”. Lots of people seem to know about this plant which should be a secret. Good guys and bad guys are revealed and almost always it is a surprise which is which. Despite their secrets from each other Kate and Tom team up once again to finally uncover all the secrets hiding in Port Aster. Ms. Orchard has delivered us a story that is loaded with action, suspense, romance, intrigue, danger and drama. It will keep you flipping pages as you try to keep up with everything that is happening. I am sorry to see this series end but I am looking forward to the next book from this very talented author. The exciting conclusion to a fantastic series. I have absolutely loved the main characters throughout this series. Kate and Tom are so incredibly well written. They both have a lot of past hurts that keep rearing their ugly heads and causing both of them trouble. Most of their problems are in the form of not knowing who to trust and how to relate to each other to help build trust. There is also an ongoing struggle with trying to trust God. This is definitely an area where they both need to grow and it great to follow along as they work on it. There are a number of additional characters that show up in this book that either haven’t been there at all in the previous books or else they only received a brief mention before. The pool of secondary characters becomes even cloudier as the story progresses as to who are good guys and who are bad guys. This made for a very enjoyable read as I HAD to find out the truth. I wanted so badly for Kate and Tom to be safe and achieve the happily-ever-after that I felt they deserved after all the danger they had gone through. I received a free eBook copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

Kate, a botanist researcher, has finally found the plant that tore her family apart. Now she's hiding the mysterious plants in her basement lab while she tries to find out what miracles it supposedly contains. But she's not the only one with questions about the plant. A detective, Tom Parker, is more interested in protecting Kate. But Kate doesn't have time for romance. She wants to find her father and the answers to the mysterious plant. The book was very well written with lots of intrigue and suspense. It reminded me of an Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon or Dee Henderson story. The characters were relatable and had depth. The plot was detailed and full of twists. This was a plus and negative for me. I haven't read the first two books in the series so was unable to follow a few of the lines occasionally. It felt like I really needed to have read the first two to get an idea of where the author wanted the reader to go. I definitely wouldn't call this book a stand-alone. There were parts of the romance that seemed rushed or forced to me, but since I haven't read the first two books I could have missed something from before. Overall, it was a nice introduction to a new author for me and I'll be checking out the first two books in this series. I received this book free of charge from Revell Reads in exchange for my honest review.

This is the third book in the Port Aster series. I did not read the first but I have read the second and now this one. Sandra has written another book that will have you guessing and wondering who can Kate trust, who is being honest and what do they want? It was nice to meet up with Kate and Tom again and see how their romance would progress in this book since the last book ended not so happily-ever-after with them. Definitely some tension between them which adds to the layers in this book. There are a lot of characters in this book and since it has been a year since I read the last one it had trouble remembering who was and who and what part they played. I will say if you haven’t read either one of the pervious books you will probably want to pick those up before reading this one. There’s just too much going on and if you don’t have the background information you will be frustrated. Overall, a good read that I enjoyed. A copy of this book was given to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve traveled this story through the three books, and had my heart in my throat throughout the story. This being the final in the Port Aster Secrets, we do find out who is a good guy and who isn’t, and boy are you going to be surprised. At least I was, I never saw some of the happening coming and who was a good guy and who was bad. I kept hoping from the first page that Kate would finally be reunited with her dad, and make her peace with Tom Parker. He seems to be there and has her back and is caring, but both are keeping secrets from each other. We do get a lot of answers to all of our questions that have been building up, and we dig deeper into all angles of this mysterious plant. There are also some helpful hints about which common plants that God planted near problem plants, like poison ivy, which are remedies, I never knew. I am ready for a next book from Sandra Orchard, if it is anything like this series; I know I will love it. I received this book through the Revell Reads Blogger Program, and was not required to give a positive review.

If you haven’t read Books 1 and 2 in the Port Aster Series, be sure to read those first. Each book builds on the previous one. Questions that were unanswered in the first two books finally get answered and most likely, they won’t be the answers you expect. This book is very exciting and suspenseful. If you lack discipline, you will find yourself reading on past bedtime. I had a hard time putting it down. The tension continues to build from beginning to end as the hero and heroine try to solve a mystery that goes back twenty years. Every way they turn, there seem to be roadblocks standing in their way of finding the truth. They don’t know who to trust. The heroine finds that trusting God is hard for her to do. Although there seems to be a budding romance they even hide things from each other at times, thinking they are protecting each other or someone else important to them. I highly recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and the author in exchange for my honest review.
