About the Author

Kevin J. McArthur is a freelance writer currently residing in Oregon. The single father of six children began writing on a whim when asked by an author friend to write a guide book for single dads. His first work, "Surviving the Single Dad Syndorme" was published in 2004 and is currently out of print. Since the book enjoyed moderate success, the author is considering releasing a future updated edition. Kevin J. McArthur enjoys writing a variety of genres. "Angel: Camden's Journey" is a fantasy fiction novel, the first in the "Angel Series," and is due for release in May, 2012. While "Devastation" is a general fiction novel, like all of the author's works, it contains spiritual or religious overtones. Recently completed "Benjamin Ridge" is another general fiction novel based on true events. The book is a tragic yet heartwarming tale of a family broken, then rejoined. The author also co-wrote a book with his father, Earl Clare McArthur titled "Jonathon's Secret Love" published in October of 2010. "Jonathon's Secret Love" is a romantic Amish tale with an interesting twist. The author is currently working on other fiction novels.

A very well written book. Pay attention when you read this, writers like this are few and far between. I first read this two months ago, I was pleased, yet felt I may have missed something. I began again a couple of days ago, and finished last evening. Still, something is missing. Then, I realized, the author has included a puzzle within the story. I have an idea who Luke really is, but I'll read again to make certain. The clues are there. I read this wanting to know what caused the destruction. By the end I didn't care. The real story is about the journey of two powerfully written characters, and many others I grew fond of, particularly Hattie and Hailey. Highly recommended, and if you solve the riddle, please let me know? I also visited the author's website as listed in the book, he has another coming soon!

Not usually something I would read but one of the reviews piqued my interest and very glad I went for it. Interesting story base, characters you can identify with...a good, clean read. Appreciated the underlying faith-base and all the surprises.

This is a very well thought out book, describing the time after a cataclysmic event. Does a great job of analyzing the challenges faced by two people trying to get cross country in a post apocalyptic time. Good job of character development and making you relate to the characters. I would say this is one of the best books I've read that approaches this subject. I'd rate it a 5 star read for any sci fi fan, and probably a 4 star plus for everyone else. Overall a very enjoyable read.

Highly recommended. Kept me interested through the whole book. This book is NOT full of religious propaganda as suggested by one reviewer.

Not sure if I had ever heard of this author, I wasn't sure that I would enjoy this free e-book.  But it was an apocalyptic story so well-written and engaging, that once I had started it, I was completely drawn into the lives and personalities of the characters.  You are kept from knowing what caused the devastation until the very end, which was an added plus to the story.

It had a unique reason for the world going crazy, how ever it was billed as a fantasy romance. It is not a romance. I was hopeful the female protagonist would be tough, she was sometimes and other times I found her quite annoying.

Great post-apocalypse novel. The characterizations were wonderful. Loved the kindness encountered in the broken world. I would love to believe they would find such goodness if the events actually occurred.

Very good apocalyptic survival tale. It was free but worth money to buy. Hope the author writes more books.

Since the only "cost" of this book is the time and effort to download it and read it, the book is worth more than it's cost. (Not always the case.) This falls into what I consider the "Christian book" category, and I'm not a big fan of such literature -- too propagandistic. (As Samuel Mayer said, "If you have a message, use Western Union.") But that's probably part of the reason the book is free. The story kept my interest enough to finish it and be reasonably satisfied overall.
