Devil May Ride (Ghost Dusters Mystery Series #2) by Wendy Roberts

Sadie Novak is blessed with the gift of second sight. More of a curse, really, when you’re the owner of a crime scene cleanup company and can’t get through a job without the ghost of a murder victim or two popping in for a chat.

Sadie and her sexy partner Zack find themselves knee-deep in trouble on their latest job when they stumble over evidence of a chilling cult ritual in an abandoned meth lab where Sadie comes face to face with an evil spirit unlike any she's ever seen before. And it’s no coincidence that a depleted stash of stolen cash turns up at her next crime scene just in time to convince a gang of meth-deprived bikers that Sadie made off with their money.

With a hell-raising band of bikers hot on her heels, Sadie has to act fast. She knows the threads are all connected—but how? It’s a shock to discover that everything is linked back to her own family—and a secret so dark it makes gossiping with ghosts look like child’s play…

Sadie Novak has a very special gift as she sees and is seen by the dead who can¿t move on she helps them make the transition to a higher plane. She owns Scene-2-Clean, a service that cleans locations where death occurred. Her co-worker Zach helps her and is even used to her seeing the dead.----------- The pair go on a job at a place where a meth lab used to be. Sadie hears a noise like a baby crying. They enter the shed and find a dead eviscerated goat with a baby sticking between it and the wall. An evil female ghost says she was a willing victim who died for her Master who needs her unborn child. ------------ They have another job at the clubhouse where a fierce drug using biker gang used to reside. When they get there, Sadie talks with the dead biker who tells her enough for her to conclude that the woman¿ ghost, and her now born child, were his child and significant other. As they clean Sadie finds packed into the wall hundreds of thousands dollars. The bikers assume she took the loot and make plans to regain it after they kill her. Instead of waiting for them to kill her and since she does not have the blood money to return to them, Sadie goes on the offensive while also insuring her pregnant sister remains safe.------------- This delightful supernatural mystery has an edgy feel to the story line that gives it a sense of being different from the usual whimsical paranormal cozy. Sadie is a strong individual who copes with her paranormal skills while believing her mission is to help the ghosts she meets move on. It is the living evil that she fears more though she will not back down or walk away when they threaten her. Wendy Roberts has a unique writing style as her heroine is hardboiled in her way when it comes to the breathing creeps, but soft boiled when it comes to the ghosts still left behind.---------- Harriet Klausner

Second book in series, liked the first, too. Sadie has a special gift or curse, with an ability to communicate with the dead. This gets her in scrapes, but also gets her out of them, along with some particular satisfactions. Some spooky moments, but a comfortable read. Enjoy!

Even better than the first in this series; Devil May Ride, a Ghost Dusters Mystery by Wendy Roberts (#2 in the series) Oh, did I love this mystery. The first one had me reading all day to finish it and this had me stop my world (except for food and bathroom breaks) to get to the end. And what an ending. N o spoilers here but I did shed a few tears. As usual, Sadie is up to her neck in dead bodies and ghosts who need to move on. It is her special gift to help them. To sweeten the pot she has taken on cleaning meth labs for the other crime scene clean up in Seattle because their owner is on vacation. But, he is not. There is a satanic cult at work, and a biker gang cooking meth, oh, and there’s a weird bed and breakfast that gives woo-woo workshops to new agers. AS everyone of the crimes begins to be related, and Sadie realizes her own pregnant sister is about to become part of their plot, the rise really begins. This story has more twists and turns than a Disney ride and more high spirited fun than Harry Potter. There is murder, mayhem and meth, ghosts and disgruntled bikers and several people who are not what they seem to be. Trying to figure out who to trust, how to keep from being killed and how to protect her sister as well as her own secrets while doing her job and figuring out if Zack is the man of her dreams or another nightmare will grab a hold and keep you reading for you life. Move over Janet Evanovich, Wendy Roberts has all the snark, quirky characters, and rollicking story of a very well written and hilarious mystery. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next in the series, Dead and Kicking #3 in this wonderful, highly recommended series. Ms. Roberts has just become my favorite comedic mystery author.

I thought the book was pretty good. It is different to the other mystery books I have read. I would highly recommend this book. The book has its funny moments. I was also recommend the 1st book to this serious. It is action fill and a twisted plot. It has your wondering who is the murderer.

I loved the first book in this series but was very disapointed in this one. I like to read mysteries and thought this would be a good series.

So I love the two books so far in this series. The main character makes you feel for her loss, but you root for her gain. Even if you don't believe in ghosts and the woo woo stuff as some people call it. You should give this series a try. I always reach the end of a book,ANY book with sadness and a empty feeling. At the end I felt both those feelings along with a question, What happens next. If you can read this book and get to that point, Well my review really doesn't matter. THAT feeling you get....THAT IS WHAT MATTERS!

This is the second book in the Ghost Dusters Mystery series and I was not disappointed. I actually got goosebumps reading this book. The Satanic rituals were creepy and actually gave me chills, and when you toss in the "normal" ghost happenings, I was surprised I didn't have nightmares. A very, VERY, good read. Can't wait till the next book!
