First, I wish B&N gave the ability for middle-of-the-road ratings like 3.5 because this was more of a 3.5 rating than a 4 for me. I normally love, love, LOVE Ms. Blackstock's series', but the Moonlighter series just hasn't grabbed my attention the way others have. First, I just do not get the impression that this is a Christian-based series like I have in her others. While I especially appreciate that she outlined in the latter part of the book that there was a definitive outcome for those who do not put their trust in Jesus, to me the rest of the book just fell short in portraying the main character's professed faith. In regards to the story, it was predictable - nothing out of the ordinary for suspense novels. Secondly, and as I believe I noted in the first book of this series, I just have a difficult time with the story line in regards to siblings becoming Private Investigators, as well as there being so many murders in their family; but I guess that's just me.  I thus gave this book four instead of three stars for the ending where Ms. Blackstock outlines her desire for each person to come to know Christ as well as due to the fact that the main character kind of witnesses to another near the end of the story.

Actor Danny DeVito, in the movie RENAIISANCE MAN, made the statement:  “All I know is, the choices we make dictate the lives we lead.”  Bob Cole, gunned down in the parking lot of a U-Haul dealership, learned this truth the hard way. Unfortunately, life’s hard lessons don’t take place in a vaccum.  Juliet Cole, her two sons, and a myriad of other family, friends and colleagues are left to deal with the collateral damage.  In so doing, Juliet Cole makes chilling discoveries that lead her to believe that this was no random drive-by shooting.  A threatening voicemail merely clinches the deal.  Now Juliet realizes that she and her children are in danger, as well. What the killers don’t realize is that they’ve just unleashed a powerful force guided by faith and driven by the need for justice.  And while the investigation continues, Juliet asks herself over and over again; was Bob an innocent victim . . . or a hardened criminal? The quest for answers by New York Times bestselling author Terri Blackstock will keep you riveted to your seat and flipping pages to the shocking conclusion. 5 stars for carefully crafted fiction that won’t let you go.

I love Terri 's new Moonlighters series. In "Distortion", we see the faithfulness of God when life around you falls apart. When everything you think is secure in your life is challenged, God is a constant and never failing strength.

Wanting More! I just finished one of the best books I have ever read, Distortion.  Distortion is the first book I have read by this author.  I know it will not be the last. Terri Blackstock described the characters and scenes in this book with such detail that I was there!  I went for a roller coaster ride of mystery, suspense, and horror.  It was a page turning read for me because I love the unknown.  I loved sitting on the edge of my seat wondering where this author was going with this story.  She keeps you guessing until the end. Please pick up a copy of this book and enter into Juliet Cole’s nightmare of a life.   Follow along as she tries to unravel the mystery of why her husband was murdered.  It’s a wild ride.  One you will not soon forget.

Terri Blackstock is a talented, prolific writer, whose Christian faith shines in every single novel. But her mysteries are totally appealing to readers on many levels. Suspense, terror, real-life issues, life, death, birth, many more.  Every book of hers is a must-read.

Distortion is an alright read. It's not overly suspenseful or riveting like some of the more well known suspense writers, but it does have enough of a plot and story to keep you turning the page, if only to find out who did what and why. Julie Cole watches her husband get murdered in front of her very eyes. She has no idea why anyone would want to hurt her husband. When she returns home after hours of questioning to break the news to her sons, there is a terrible voicemail left behind for her husband. Julie then begins to question who her husband really was and whether this shooting was intentional. The family is in danger as she must meet the killers demands. As the clues start to unravel the reader gets sucked it. My biggest complaint about the book is that the ending - once you finally get there - has absolutely no closure. We all know this in routine in series, set forth to grab the reader and hook them so they'll by the next installment of the series. Well played. While I felt the story had a lot of good structure, there were parts that were nothing more than added filler. It's apparent throughout the book and I felt as if it was trying too hard to be a Christian novel by grasping for this relevant to a piece of scripture, which wasn't a whole lot. It's not awful, it's not great.

Juliet Cole has spent most of her adult life as a devoted wife to a successful doctor and mother of two sons, but her world changes forever when she witnesses the murder of her husband. As she deals with the trauma of the loss and tries to make sense of what she believed was a random shooting, she soon discovers a threatening voicemail message on her deceased husband's phone, hinting that his death was in fact, a planned execution. She and her sons could now be in danger. Not only does Terri Blackstock weave a great mystery, but while doing so she delves into her characters emotions and what makes them come to life. Blackstock combines mystery, romance, and faith in intriguing ways. I couldn't put the book down. From the start, this book has suspense that doesn’t end. As the characters search towards a solution, there are all kinds of obstacles in their way; drugs, intrigue, police interaction. A thrilling, suspense-filled winner does not disappoint. I highly recommend this one. Discussion questions are included. Received copy of EBook from Net Galley with Zondervan Fiction for my review

Distortion Terri Blackstock Book Summary: When Juliet Cole's husband of fifteen years is gunned down in a dark parking lot before her eyes, she thinks it was a random shooting. Devastated and traumatized, she answers hours of questioning. When she's finally allowed to return home to break the news to her boys, she hears a voicemail that takes the situation from a random shooting to a planned, deliberate attack. 'Mrs. Cole, we know you have access to the supply and the money. If you don't turn fifty million over to us and give us the codes, then you'll be burying more family members.' Suddenly, Juliet realizes that she and her children could be in danger. She teams up with her sisters and PI Michael Hogan to dig into the sham Bob has been living for years. The more she learns, the worse the betrayal. A drug trafficking history, a fortune in cash, and a secret family all emerge to turn Juliet's belief system on its head, and threaten the things she loves. Are she and her sisters skilled enough as sleuths to get to the truth? Review: This was a great suspense filled book that kept me at the edge of my seat. It was well crafted and exciting! I can not wait for the next book in the series. Juliet was fantastic. To find out what Bob did and all the secrets. It was very realistic as the story progressed. It was great that Cathy, Michael, Jay & Holly were back. Each character has grown. Holly has continued on with more growth from the last story to this one. Cathy and Michael are exploring their new relationship. They have added a few peripheral characters that have added to the mix well. Some are bad and some are good. The past creeps back up, with Leonard Miller. Leonard Miller comes with some bad people and that adds to the suspense. It was exciting to the end! This is why I always want to read a Terri Blackstock mystery! I would like to thank Net Galley and Zondervan Fiction for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

I really enjoyed this suspenseful story and can't imagine how shocking it would be to discover your husband has so many deadly secrets. Sometimes her responses bothered me, but were mostly understandable under the circumstances. The same goes for her older son. I liked the different perspectives we got to see and it was fun to see the whole family involved in trying to figure out the situation. I haven't read book one and felt like I did miss out on something, but the story line wasn't confusing because of it. I liked that Juliet had a deep faith, but still questioned why, and that her family had varying levels of faith due to a very hurtful incident in their childhood. There was one point at the end that I didn't think made logistical sense, but mostly it was believable. I definitely plan on reading the first book and can't wait for the next in the series! I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

I have read a lot of Ms Blackstock's books, and again she leaves me wanting more. This one keeps you page turning right from the beginning to the end. Your heart in your throat! Beginning with seeing your husband of 15 years murdered in front of you, a random act? We soon find a big tangled web. With two children to take care of Juliet Cole is in full Mom protective roll, and it is a good thing. There is a lot of family trust and love here, we find them all rallying around Juliet. Of course Juliet and her sisters Cathy, and Holly are not only family, but trained Private Investigators. There are so many surprises here, one after another, you will be shouting "No", and I did to no one!! How can such things happen, your world falls apart, and you never see it coming! Through out the book we see God's hand there, and know that their faith is what they rely on. With so much danger, and greed. No value on human life, and even for small babies. UGH!! If you love mystery and suspense, this book is for you, it is awesome!! I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

Terri Blackstock knows how to make me hold my breath! Even though this fast paced suspense novel kept me flipping pages, I found myself anxious to read even faster. What a good read! It kept my full attention, and I never suspected the ending. I immediately connected with the character Juliet Cole. Poor woman; she witnesses her husband, Bob, murdered. She actually sees the killer! As the police investigate, her world continues to crash down around her as she copes with ever-growing ugly revelations about the husband she dearly loved and thought she knew. However, Juliet is a strong woman, and she dedicates herself to helping the police and the FBI solve this crime. I especially enjoyed the part where Juliet wonders if Bob was a Christian. "Could he have been a Christian and still been involved in drug trafficking? Could he have truly loved God and still done something that would devastate so many lives?" (304) I highly recommend this one. Discussion questions are included. Thank you to BookLook Bloggers for my copy.

Blackstock has written a suspenseful and dramatic novel that grabs you from the very beginning.  Full of twists and turns, Distortion is a story that clearly pictures how the consequences and effects of actions either right or wrong effect not only ourselves, but everyone around us as well. While I appreciated the suspense in the book, there were parts that just seemed and little far-fetched and a bit unbelievable...like every spouse of the siblings involved being murdered.  One thing I did appreciate about the book was Blackstock's character development and how she accomplished this by adding significant details at significant points in the story. *Thank you Litfuse Publicity for having the book sent for the purpose of this review.

It has been a while since I read one of Terri Blackstock's books, and now I am wondering why. This book was fast paced, on the edge of your seat action. And the suspense was great! I didn't start getting a feel for who the real bad guy was until nearly the last fourth of the book. That kept me coming back for more, I had to know more to figure out who was the person behind it all. And once I figured it out, I was disturbed because well, you will have to read it and figure it out yourself. But just know that things are not always as they appear. Great book, great writing!! 5 stars from this reviewer. This book was provided for review purposes only, no payment was received for this review.

Distortion is an okay murder mystery. I imagine it's better if you've read the other books in the series, but for those who are coming in with just this book, it's definitely an okay book from start to finish. There isn't much time to really get attached to the characters, so it never really was that "gripping" to me. On the bright side, though, the author did a good job of creating realistic and life-like characters, so they do feel like they could be real people. It's definitely worth picking up if you've read the rest of the books in the series. For those who haven't, though, it's still worth reading if you enjoy a murder mystery. I wouldn't call it riveting, and I wouldn't say that it will stand out as a must-read book, but it didn't feel like a waste of time, and I enjoyed the experience of reading it.

A special thank you to Zondervan Fiction and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. DISTORTION was my first book by Terri Blackstock, and definitely look forward to reading more from this talented author; a mixture of a suspense thriller, with a seamless blending of Christian faith elements. I have not read the first book in the Moonlighters series, Truth Stained Lies; however, have it on my “to read list”. I would recommend reading this one first, prior to Distortion, in order to learn more of the background of the characters, and this interesting family. With a thriller opening, Juliet Cole’s husband, Bob is gunned down in a storage U-Haul parking lot, while Juliet and Bob are helping her sister Holly move. What comes afterward is just as shocking. She has no clue this could have been a planned murder, and not just a random shooting. At home later, this is confirmed when she hears a voice mail which lets her know, this was a deliberate attack, and now the only thing on her mind is protecting her family, in particular her two sons—they are in danger. Juliet is supposed to be the stable sister in the family with her well known successful physician husband. Little does she know Bob has a secret life full of lies and deception? Did she miss the clues? How could this man be involved in crimes, drugs, and another woman and child? Has her life been a lie? How will she explain this to her sons? She teams up with her sisters and PI Michael Hogan to dig into the lies and life Bob has been living outside of the one she knew. She is driven to find answers; front and center in the investigation. The more she learns, the worse it gets. A drug trafficking history, a fortune in cash, and a secret family all begin to question Juliet’s life and her faith – everything in her life is threatened. As more deception and clues surface, she is busy with her own PI work with her sister Holly, tracking down anything which will lead them to the killer and solve this mystery. Despite her problems, she remains faithful to God and holds on to her faith through prayer. In the first book, Jay, the brother of Cathy, a former lawyer and now investigative blogger, is falsely accused of murdering his ex-wife, she and her two sisters, Holly and Juliet, team up help their brother and to protect Jackson, their five-year-old nephew. In this novel Holly and Juliet team up to help Juliet find Bob’s killer. I like the fact of using flawed characters, sins and temptation, as Christians are not perfect. Sometimes God uses puts us in situations to stretch our faith and have us grow in His wisdom. Well done . . highly recommend this riveting fast-paced series!

Once upon a time I thought I had my life down pat - then something beyond belief happened to the father of my children, whom I thought would be around for a young time. Well, I discovered life can throw us a curve ball and our lives can turn on a dime. I became a real-life sleuth to find out what really happened after the father of my children was poisoned to death."Distortion (Moonlighters Series) is part of an intriguing series. In this drama, Juliet Cole discovered there were secrets and the lives of her children might be in jeopardy. A Private Detective, as well as Julie and her sisters start digging to find out the truth.I can see time moving like still frames in a blurry slideshow when she sees her husband gunned down. I love how the author’s faith shines through in her work and so does her consummate skill.  Jeannie Walker (Award-Winning Author)
