Dreams That Won't Let Go (Jubilant Soul Book #3): A Novel by Stacy Hawkins Adams

Can family ties bind deep-seated wounds?

Indigo Burns is excited. Her wedding preparations to the man of her dreams are under way, her photography career is a success, and her family seems to be doing better than ever--all except her brother Reuben, who nobody has seen in years. But that's about to change.

When Reuben decides to move back home to Jubilant, Texas, he hopes to find healing with his sisters. But Indigo isn't so sure their relationship can be mended. And when younger sister Yasmin makes a life-altering choice, it seems like only a miracle can put the Burns family back together.

Will they ever be able love unconditionally and release each other to live their dreams?

This third book in Stacy's series can't be the end. I don't want it to be. I want to read more about the families in Jubilant, and the stories the characters have to tell. Dreams that Won't Let Go continues the story of Reuben and his young family's arrival back into the lives of his siblings and the grandparents who raised them. There is more than a little bit of resentment on his sisters' parts when he gets all the attention, though he never asked for it. Yasmin wants to start modeling again and causes her own drama within the family that shakes them up, yet brings them together at the same time. And Indigo is trying to plan a wedding but nobody seems to be paying attention. My favorite character in this book was Reuben's wife, who happens to be visually impaired. She really touched my heart because I know people like her. They present as competent and in control and yet there is a vulnerable side to all women, even competent ones. I thought it was sweet that he saw her need for him. That was a moving scene when she woke and he wasn't there. Reuben was a good guy and a great husband to her. I loved how she touched all of his family and helped bridge the gap between them with her assured and loving ways. I also liked how the pastor was brought into the family circle to help them all heal. That shows a great example of how the church can be effective when people need help and the pastor is truly there for them. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I have to say my favorite in the series was the second book, Worth a Thousand Words. But any book Stacy writes is a good story. She has a unique writing style and voice that always holds my attention.

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THIS BOOK WAS A SERIES. I HAPPEN TO COME ACROSS IT WHILE LOOKING UP SOMETHING ELSE ON THE COMPUTER. BUT WHAT A NICE READ. I ENJOYED READING ABOUT INDIGO, REUBEN, PEYTON, AND THE ENTIRE BURNS FAMILY. ALL FAMILIES HAVE SECRETS AND GHOSTS THAT WE TRY TO KEEP HIDDEN FOR SOME REASON OR ANOTHER. BUT SOME THINGS NEED TO BE DEALT WITH INSTEAD OF HIDDEN AWAY, NO MATTER HOW MUCH PAIN YOU THINK WILL BE BROUGHT TO THE FAMILY. WE CAN ALL LEARN A LESSON OR TWO FROM THE BURNS FAMILY. WELL DONE STACY HAWKINS ADAMS. I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Dreams That Won't Let Go by Stacy Hawkins Adams is the third book in her powerful Jubilant Soul series about the Burns family of Jubilant, Texas. Indigo Burns is counting down the last few weeks before her wedding to soulmate Max when her brother Reuben announces his return from living out of state. Their parents become so focused on his homecoming after ten years away that Indigo can't help but feel resentful of the attention, and when youngest sister Yasmin disappears it's apparent that she's been wounded by it as well. I really enjoy Adams' books, because they are populated by real people with real problems. Reuben, Indigo, and Yasmin are all still struggling with the death of their real parents almost twenty years ago and it impacts every aspect of their lives. The author focuses in on how secrets and hidden hurts can create distance within a family. God wants us to be open and honest with each other about our pain, especially within the family unit where we can best deal with it, and Adams illustrates that point beautifully here. Another thing I love about this series is that each volume skips a few years into the future giving the reader the opportunity to see characters learn from their mistakes and truly grow from them. I look forward to seeing what will happen next with Yasmin.

My Synopsis: Dreams That Won't Let Go (Jubilant Soul Series - Book 3) by Stacy Hawkins Adams Indigo Burns should be happy, she should be on cloud nine. Her photography career is off to a great start, she is planning her wedding day. Everything should be going fine. But, when Indigo's brother, Reuben decides to move his wife and son back to Jubilant, Texas after a long absence, things go from bad to worse. Reuben hopes to find healing and love from his sisters Indigo and Yasmin, but life altering decisions make him wonder if they will ever be free to own up to their mistakes and live their dreams. My Thoughts: When I first started reading the book, I felt as though Indigo was maybe being a little petulant and jealous about Reuben's return. She wanted her mother's attention and she felt Reuben could do no wrong. But, as I continued reading I began to see it was more than that. Indigo was hurt by Reuben in the past and that was just how she was showing that pain. Yasmin was hurt by decisions her parents/grandparents made about her career and ended up making a huge decision that would change the family forever. Reuben's pain dealt more with what happened to him when he survived a car accident that took the lives of both his parents. He was feeling not only guilt over a broken promise, but what some would call survivor's guilt. Dreams That Won't Let Go was really about families and how they interact and how honesty plays such a vital role in the family dynamic. Being honest about your feelings, and owning up to your mistakes. Telling family members when you are hurting and allowing them to help you and give you the wings you need to carry out your dreams. I liked this book a lot because it showed a real family and a real struggle that readers could identify with. I also liked how the families faith in God seemed to be the cornerstone of their lives. How they were able to turn to God not only in the worst of times but in the good times as well.

Wedding preparations have been what most women literally dream of from childhood. The same holds true for Indigo Burns. Numbered among her many dreams has been to become a successful photographer - check; marry the man of her dreams - check; have her family restored - no check. Left open on her list, but possibly not for long, is the desire for her family to become what they once were. With the impending return of her brother Rueben to Jubilant, Texas, that item may be checked off her list sooner rather than later. Well, that is, if they can overcome the obstacles that separated them and the new one thrown into the dysfunctional stew by the choice of their sister Yasmin. Stacy Hawkins has done a superb job of revealing how life challenges and our choices about them can bring us closer or tear us apart. She is to be commended on presenting a story that is not only entertaining, but thought provoking as well. Dreams That Won't Let Go is the third book in the popular Jubilant Soul series, and although I haven't read the other books in the series, I was able to completely enjoy this novel without feeling lost. I enjoyed reading the personal and family struggles of the Burns family and admired how they dealt with their challenges without losing faith and their love for one another. At the core of their relationships was love and despite all of the unspoken secrets, that love never died. The brother-sister relationship between Indigo and Ruben was particularly interesting because it was so real. Through the story, Ms. Adams made the reader realize that we can still be jealous and even bitter in spite of loving someone. Even though Indigo realized she was being ridiculous, she couldn't stop herself from resenting her brother Ruben for moving back home. I think the takeaway message is that there is always a second chance and love is the key to making things right.

I liked how this author brought out to the readers that a family's with hidden secrets can almost destroyed relationships. "Dreams That Won't Let Go" is a very inspirational read that was about 'real life circumstances' that occur in our everyday life that will deals with love, grief and family issues. This will definitely be a read of 'emotional intensity' with some twist that will keep you turning the pages. The characters: Reuben, Indigo, Yasmin, Peyton, Max, Pastor Taylor...to name a few were all well developed and very believable...only giving you one amazing read.

This was a very good series. I enjoyed all three books. This family had many issues and it was nice reading through and seeing how the family struggled and turned to God and waited on his help. There were a lot of tough situations that's very common today and Adams addressed them head on. Although it would be nice for the series to continue, I personally believe the story can and will end here. I'll be on the lookout for what's next!
