Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Prepare for blast-off with three especially festive episodes from the Disney Channel's animated series that weaves classical-music themes, images of artistic masterworks, and architectural landmarks into interactive stories. The Little Einsteins -- Leo, Annie, Quincy, and June -- make beautiful music as they fly around the world on their trusty, gadget-tricked rocket to complete fun missions. In the first episode, making its premiere on this DVD, the quartet embarks on a search for three pieces that make up the wondrous contraption, the "Birthday Machine." In "Go West, Young Train," the Little Einsteins form a posse to help their friend, the Little Red Train, retrieve a party bag lifted by the Big Jet. The final episode transports the gang to Antarctica as they try to retrieve Annie's "Birthday Balloons." Each "we need you" mission enlists the assistance of viewers, who, for example, are called on to slap out a beat that will allow Rocket to take off. Each episode features a repeated theme by a noted composer, including, respectively, Bach, Bizet, and Mozart. Musical terms are also cleverly incorporated in each story (should Little Red Train chug along at an allegro or adagio tempo?). If the goal of this series is to make the worlds of classical music and art accessible to youngsters, then Mission accomplished!
