Katie Parla, a New Jersey native and longtime Rome resident, has spent the past dozen years documenting the Italian capital's dining and drinking scene for The New York Times, Australian Gourmet Traveller, The Guardian, Saveur, Bon Appetit, Conde Nast Traveler, Conde Nast Traveller UK, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, PUNCH, Eater, and others. She is considered a leading authority on the Roman food, wine, and craft beer scene by her peers and colleagues, and she has the credentials to back it up: a Sommelier Certificate from the Federazione Italiana Sommelier Albergatori Ristoratori and a Master’s Degree in Italian Gastronomic Culture from Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, as well as Bachelor's Degree from Yale.

Katie is the creator of the blog Parla Food and the web series "Katie Parla's Rome" and is the author of the food and travel apps "Katie Parla’s Rome" and "Katie Parla’s Istanbul". She is the co-author of Tasting Rome, a cookbook covering Rome's contemporary food culture being published in Spring 2016 by Clarkson Potter.
