Elders of The Way: An Ancient Dream Reborn

This is the story of an ancient dream reborn.

Through twists and turns it would travel from the Aboriginal village of Jubullum, to the Old City of Jerusalem, before planting itself in Hawai'i, a chain of islands found at the ends of the earth. For a decade it would be called family and fellowship, in time, they would call it The Way. This is how we got there, to the place where the pages flip themselves, as if the Author of Life truly was at work in the world around us.

It was 2012 when I returned from 10 years in the urban jungle of New York City, tracking an urge to connect with the elders of my homeland, a place of ancient peoples now known as Australia. He was the great Poppy Harry Mundine Walker, Chief of the Wahlubal tribe, custodian of language and culture, retired Reverend and legendary preacher they used to call The Black Billy Graham. She was the amazing Aunty Annabelle, warrior of praise and prayer, the gospel singing, corroboree dancing, beloved wife, mum and nan, with a laugh that could leave you lying on the floor.

Over a decade and more, their words would be a lamp unto my feet, and though I would end up halfway around the world, whatever the distance or cost, the Lord they trusted with all their might would faithfully reunite us, again and again. And in the end, I would do my best to carry them with me, to the farthest reaches of the planet, where we prayed many more would take their tale to heart, and have no choice but to love them also, as our precious Pop and Ma, Elders of The Way.
