Overview

Set in location of Old Faithful Inn, 1903-4. Working in a discouraging café, Ellen escapes an awful situation in rough and tumble Butte, Montana, and goes to work as second in command to a wary cook in the shell that will become Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone Park. She meets Charles Penrose, head carpenter on the massive project of Old Faithful Inn, which is being finished in a harsh Wyoming winter. Will it really open June 1, 1904? Can Ellen start to trust the other workers? What will she learn about the other employees? And Charles. He's a widower with a young daughter there, too. Like Ellen, he wants more.

About the Author

I'm a long-time, award-winning novelist, perhaps best known for my Regency Romances, two of which have earned Rita Awards from Romance Writers of America. I've also been writing Mormon-themed novels, as well as historical fiction for Harlequin and CamelPress in Seattle. I have three Whitney Awards from LDStorymakers, and two Spur Awards from Western Writers of America, plus a Lifetime Achievement Award from Romantic Times (which makes me feel like I have one foot in the grave).

Current works available now are "The Christmas Angle," from A Country Christmas; "A Christmas Dance with the Rancher," from Harlequin's Western Christmas Proposals, and For This We Are Soldiers: Tales of the Frontier Army.

Out in February will be the fourth and final book in the Spanish Brand Series: "The Star in the Meadow." In March will be "Courting Carrie in Wonderland" for Cedar Fort, which I am writing now.

I'll soon be starting a series set at St. Edmunds School in Portsmouth, England in 1803, a direct result of my short story, "The Christmas Angle," which is newly available in A Country Christmas. I discovered I couldn't let go of those interesting characters.

I love to write. The whole process still fascinates me, even after many novels and short stories, and some non-fiction work. I'm still learning with every book.

Got it this morning and now it's read. I loved every single word of it. Ellen didn't have friends at first, other than Plato the wonderful cat, but she gained them as she went along.... I wish I had definitive word for Carla Kelly's writing voice, but I don't. I'll just say you need to read it only once to be totally caught up in the way she has with words, and she has a great backlist!

Such a fun group of characters, especially Charles and his sweet daughter. Full of adventure and building friendships. I loved the sweet romance, especially the journal entries. *Happy Sigh* You're going to be swept away in this story and fall head over heels for Ellen and Charles!

This is a wonderful story of Ellen who has has a hard life, but appreciates everything she has. She's a hard worker and touches everyone she meets, including Charles. This is a really sweet, clean romance.
