John Palmer hasnt felt like a real man since he was injured during combat in Iraq. Though not content with his new life, he is mostly adapting, just like the other vets at the Lost N Found Investigative Service. When Shannon Murphy is hired on as the new office manager, life suddenly gets a lot more interesting. Before long, John finds himself wondering if he could ever be the kind of man Shannon needs.
Shannon Murphy wasnt really looking for love when she hired on at LNF, but finds herself hopelessly attracted to the sex-on-wheels former Marine, John Palmer. The man is grumpy and nearly impossible to work with, but his brand of masculinity appeals to her on a basic level. Soon Shannon is wondering just what it would take for John to want her the way she wants him.
When an old enemy tries to settle a vendetta against Shannon, John insists on protecting her. He moves into her house, fanning the spark of attraction into a blaze. But the danger continues to escalate. Will the connection that theyve found survive when theyre thrust into a fight for their lives?

About the Author

Terminally addicted to romances, thanks to finding her aunt's stash of 'Harlequin Presents' years ago during a sleepover, J.M. Madden loves any and all good love stories. Most particularly her own. She has two beautiful children and a husband who always keeps her on her toes.

J.M. was a Deputy Sheriff in Ohio for nine years, until hubby moved the clan to Kentucky. When not chasing the family around, she's at the computer, reading and writing, trying to perfect her craft. She occasionally takes breaks to feed her animal horde, and is trying to control her office-supply addiction, but both tasks are uphill battles. Happily, she is writing full-time now. She always has several projects in the works and loves to hear from readers.

Very good well-written 400 page book. Also, bought the book because of the donation to Wounded Warrior project. Where is book #2?

This story is about Shannon Murphy who is office manager of Lost 'N' Found Investigative Serices which was founded by 3 friends, Chad, Duncan and John.  This business is unique in that all the bosses and employees are returned servicemen who have some kind of disability (physical or mental) due to their tours. Shannon has been secretly crushing on John for 6 months and John is drawn to Shannon, too, but he doesn't feel he has anything to offer a woman since injuries he suffered in his tour in Iraq left him in a wheelchair. Shannon is threatened by a stalker and calls John for help, so he goes right over to protect her. He moves in with her to keep her safe. John calls the entire team at LNF Investigations to help out. Living together gives the couple the chance to figure out how they feel about each other.  Shannon is pretty forward so she goes after John, but he still tries to hold back and can't accept that he has a lot to offer Shannon. I loved this well written book. The author does an amazing job of showing us the difficulties vets have once they are back home.  She does this openly and honestly without making us pity them. The character development was excellent. John was grumpy and rude but Shannon was kind and loving.  She had to be strong too or she never would have put up with John's moods.  It was great how she was able to make him feel like a real man again even thought it was not easy. I had no idea how bad it could be for returning vets.  This story detailed just how difficult it was for John to handle his physical disability which lead to mental issues as well. I really liked this book and recommend it.

Military Romantic Suspense that easily earned ALL FIVE STARS--Kudos to J. M. Madden! I did read the prequel to the LOST AND FOUND SERIES, THE EMBATTLED ROAD and easily gave it 5 stars, too. Having seen John (a primary character in this book, EMBATTLED HEARTS), I was really anxious to read his story. Of the three friends whose initial recovery from injuries we see in the prequel, John Palmer intrigued me the most. As encouraged by the author, I read a loaned copy of this book (as it's lending enabled on purpose) and having just finished the book, sighed with the kind of reader pleasure that says "that was SO worth it!" I may just have to buy my own copy (though I seldom read books a second time...FAR too many books out there for that). This book was THAT well-written. Yes, I caught a few misspellings, but the story was so incredibly well-done these tiny little errors were so very easy to overlook. I found our heroine, Shannon Murphy to be the PERFECT fit, ideal match, and thus the romance (primary focus of the book) was such a rewarding read. I so enjoyed watching these two fall in love. I liked that they were both halfway in love as the story starts and the danger and beautifully crafted Romantic Suspense brings them together where the romance ignites. The romantic suspense thread really worked. I found myself not too surprised by who the players ended up being (as Madden doesn't add "fluff"--which I appreciate), but the pacing was extraordinarily well done, the suspense gradually ratcheting up until I found myself unable to put my reader down. Several really tense scenes there! I LOVED how it played out! Very satisfying resolution to the suspense thread, and even more satisfying resolution to the romance. Sensuality Level: Wicked Hot. Sex scenes are graphic, detailed, but this is NOT erotica. It's definitely romance. There's something RIGHT about sex scenes where the characters STAY in character and it's not just gratuitous. Language: John's a former Marine--his language is colorful, graphic, and at least PG-13....completely in character. I'm a huge fan of Military Romantic Suspense...and J.M. Madden has won me over. 100%. I so enjoyed the prequel and this first book that I'm *definitely* getting my hands on the next in the series and will likely purchase them ALL before I've even read book #2. It was such a rewarding read that I wholeheartedly recommend it to fans of Military Romantic Suspense (who don't mind sexual content and language). ~Kristin

Great story and series. Madden seems to have a 'scope' looking into the hearts and minds of our wounded warriors.

Never a dull page!! This is one of the 'cannot put down' books. It is written so well that It gives the feeling that you have personally met the characters. I HAVE to purchase the next books to see how the rest of the characters fared. Also I praise the author for donating to the Wounded Warrior project.

Embattled Hearts was a good 4 star read and the first book in the Lost and Found series. There are some things you can’t change in life, who you’re related to, taxes, the nasty boss you’d like to shove off a roof. And you can’t choose who you’re attracted to. Shannon is hired on to work at LNF Investigative Services. And when she meets John sparks fly between them. John doesn’t think that he has a chance with Shannon, why would she want a guy like him?(broke my heart) John is struggling with his injuries suffered from being in the Marines. He isn’t able to go out into the field like the other detectives and hates it. When Shannon’s safety is at risk due to a stalker, John offers to stay with her for protection. Will they find out who the stalker is? Will they give in to their attraction? You’re the first person I’ve ever been with who doesn’t make me want to shoot somebody out of boredom -John My emotions were all over the place, with some teary eyed moments. I feel these two were meant for each other and you could feel their connection on so many levels. The secondary characters were great and I was very happy with the ending. The struggles that John went through trying to deal with his injuries is exactly what alot of our military go through everyday. To have this in a story brought some realism to it, kudos to J.M. Madden

Embattled Hearts (Lost and Found #1) By J.M. Madden Rated 5 stars This is a romantic suspense story. I loved all these guys! Who doesn’t have a soft spot for military men??? These are men who have been damaged physically as well as mentally. They are now just trying to get by and survive day by day. So opening Lost N Found Investigative has helped them all. John was an amazing character even though he was grumpy and hates people. I loved being inside his head and seeing all the angst and turmoil boiling through his veins. I could easily understand his feelings. His childhood to his adulthood...he is one who slipped through and came out blazing on the other side. Shannon is a wonder herself. She has a soft heart and loves to cook for those men. She is a woman with a past. It’s been under wraps but now it’s coming back to haunt her. She was so so good for John. Shannon is very confident and that is what John needs. There were side stories which include one with Duncan and one with Chad, Zeke and a few others. They were all interesting but I think Chad, Zeke and crew were great and What a fun way to get to know them. I am seeing possible future stories here. This is a first time author for me. The story flowed nicely and the characters were strong. I am loving this crew so I can’t wait to read the next one....preview in the back so I got a Sneak Peak!!!!

Embattled Hearts (Lost and Found #1) by J.M. Madden was an steady, entertaining, military romance with a dash of mystery, that had my hooked. My first read by this author, I didn't know what to expect. The synops was intriguing, and the reviews positive, but military books aren't normally my type of read, only because I am a serving member, and well, I don't think I need to tell you why I tend to not go for these type of books. Picky isn't the word. Anyways, I have to say I was impressed with the research, and the knowing the little ins and outs of how the service world works. Though I am Canadian, the inner workings of most militaries are the same, especially when it comes to the way we interact with one another. I saw that, and that alone kept me reading. As for our MC's, I liked Jack right away. I believe that had to do with the dual POV. We get to see inside his pain, and know why he's apprehensive, especially towards Shannon. Speaking of Shannon, there was just something about her that irked me just a little. I think, it had to do with how she was portrayed, small, needing to be protected, motherly, too freaking kind, and innocent. It was a little mary sueish, and very typical for these types of books when the leav male MC is a alpha male type. I'm not saying I didn't like her as a character, it was just, she was too perfect, and I found it hard to connect with her. Overall I did very much enjoy this read, the way the romance was developed was layered, and it wasn't a insta-love situation, this is two people crushing and already knowing one another, but not knowing how to express it. I liked that build up, it added that needed layer, that almost made up for Shannon's lack of character depth. The added mystery of whos stalking her was a nice bonus, and it gave them that chance to finally get passed the BS. I hope you take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will not only find something to love about this book, but you will be drawn in by its life like surroundings, its deep solid plot and, its interesting characters. Happy Reading -E.A. Walsh

I really enjoyed this book surprisingly. It was nice to read a romance novel where one of the main charavters had a real issue and wasn't all perfect.

## Barely ok. Good story idea, but the results left a lot to be desired. SPOILERS BELOW**** The hero was very unlikeable and remained that way til the end. A few pages before the ending the heroine says "I love you" and the hero says: I love having sex with you but I don't feel the same as you. Wow. Nice. NOT. Instead of kicking this guy to the curb, she says "I'll wait til you're ready". Gah, I was embarrassed for her character. Then, a couple of pages later he's in love. What? He JUST told her he didn't feel that way. Whatever. I won't be reading this again.
