Lupercal! Lupercal! Lupercal! I was a little hesitant about this one. This is book two of the bestselling Horus Heresy series and I had just finished the mind-blowingly great Horus Rising written by my man Dan Abnett. In fact, this is the first Warhammer story I have read that wasn’t written by Abnett. Guess what? This guy is also great! He picked up the baton and ran with it, now I love this novel just as much as the first. Is it possible all Warhammer writers are great? We will see. I noticed the next two books are written by different authors as well, now I can’t wait. I have the trade paperback version of this book and it’s the only paperback I’ve ever seen that has a score on the front and back cover. This enables the book to be opened wide for reading without creasing the spine, which I can’t stand. I don’t know if that is an innovation from the UK, where the Black Library is based, or a publishing secret from China where the book was printed. I tip my hat to whomever thought of that and give my permission to have all future paperbacks produced in the same manner. Did I mention this is a great book? If you read the first one you are going to need to add this one to your collection as well.
