Finding Peace in the Promise: A Memoir of Walking with Intention
This story evolved from a visualization I had as I struggled to find a way to lean more consciously into the last quarter of the century of my birth. What I sought was a healthier way to live, so I could be more fully present with my family and friends.

I realized that intentional walking helped to clear my headspace, creating space to examine my life. Three threads wove through this tapestry of intentionality: walking with intention personally, walking with intention for charity, and walking with intention to inspire others.

Walking personally helped to lessen the anxiety I experienced in my day-to-day life, clearing the way for more enriching experiences with those around me. My focus was sharper, my heart more open, and my psyche more balanced.

Walking for charity in virtual walks satisfied a need I had to reach out to others in a tangible way. Each walk directly supported a charity with the proceeds that were raised. The charities I supported, all 30 of them, benefited in a small way. I am reminded of the words of an anonymous writer who once wrote, "Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person." That was my goal in reaching out beyond myself.

Walking to inspire others came more subtly. During the year of walking, family and friends became curious about my motivation for walking 1,000 miles. When I explained why I took on such a personal challenge, the comments and questions that followed revealed inspired ideas of their own. This was very gratifying, as shown by the smile on my face.
