Finding Sophie by Laura Lovett

For twelve years, Cadence Davidson has dreaded her daughter’s twelfth birthday, for that is the day she will tell Sophie who her true father really is.

Sophie’s world is turned upside down when she learns that her biological father is really Richard White, the man who abducted her mother twelve years earlier. She wonders if she will ever meet the elusive billionaire, only to find herself suddenly abducted into the life that he has carefully crafted for her and her mother. She begs to be free from this man who has torn apart her family, yet struggles with her emotions as she finds herself softening towards her father and abductor.

Richard White must fight to salvage his dream of finally having the love of his life, Cadence, and his daughter, Sophie, together. Despite his carefully orchestrated plan, he’s faced with unexpected events that threaten to wreck his dream forever. As his inner voice taunts him, Richard strives to preserve his family and come to know his beautiful daughter. Will Richard be able to find peace and hold on to the family he has fought for a lifetime to bring together?

In this psychological thriller, an obsession that spans decades comes to its ultimate test. Love, loss and courage coalesce on the great Pacific Ocean as Richard faces his demons and makes one final choice to find peace and love.

“Finding Sophie” was a great read from start to finish. Lovett effortlessly transports us twelve years into the future after our heroine, Cadence Weaverly, was kidnapped by her obsessive and mentally unstable ex-boyfriend, multi-millionaire Richard White. Since her rescue, Cadence has borne Richard’s daughter, Sophie, and is happily married to her soulmate, Christian. Nine-year-old son Cale completes their family, and all seems well until Richard decides that the time has come for him to step into his rightful role as father to Sophie and husband to Cadence, and this time, nothing will stand in his way. Engaging, scary, and engrossing—an amazing sequel!

Finding Sophie grabs you from the very first page, and holds you captive to the very last. I was up many late nights reading because I couldn’t put the book down! Very well written - A MUST READ!

I found myself quickly immersed in “Finding Sophie” and I couldn’t put it down. Often I find the sequel to a book I really enjoyed is a bit of a disappointment, but that is certainly not the case here. It picks up seamlessly from “Losing Cadence” and draws you in with the same exciting pace, fascinating plot twists and descriptive writing style that makes you not want the story to end. It will be my next book club suggestion!

This sequel to Losing Cadence takes place about 12 years after the events in the first book and has a much faster pace. We also get a close look into Richard, including his childhood, which gives a bit more insight into his obsessions and need for control. His struggle with the past, his self-hatred, and needing the devotion of Cadence and their daughter, Sophie, makes for a chilling tale. Sophie is extremely poised and emotionally mature for a twelve-year-old girl, but it does work well for the story. With some interesting twists, a fast-paced story line, and a dramatic conclusion, this one surpasses its predecessor in both suspense and action.
